Koi... Mil Gaya (2003)
Where's the off button??
I was actually getting into this film and enjoying it..... until the Hindi hoedown started up. Oh the disappointment left me shell shocked because I foolishly thought that for once a film made in India could be spared all the dreadful Bollywood rubbish. This just proves that Bollywood song and dance DOES NOT GO with science fiction. As soon as the very first song starts, you're reaching for the OFF button which is a shame coz the film was looking really promising up until then but like I said, as soon as the BS starts it turns into a Mr Bean moment full of cringe factor 10. It wouldn't be so bad if the songs actually enhanced the story but they don't. You'd get the same WTf!! factor if you were watching say for example "Independance Day" and instead of Bill Pullman's speech to the pilots you got the spice girls bouncing out the hanger singing if you wanna be my lover. That's how disjointed Bollywood is. They shoehorn song and dance into every film because they just can't bloody well help themselves. Kinda like Bollywood torretts syndrome.
Galloping Galaxies! (1985)
Remembered for S.I.D.
The only reason I remember this is because of S.I.D. which I assume stands for Sarcastic Information Drone.
He was without a doubt the best character..... only memorable character in this series, with his one liner's and VERY sarcastic put downs toward the rest of the crew. I would imagine that Kenny Williams (God bless his resting soul) had an awful lot of fun voicing SID because the script for him was the best thing..... ne ... the only thing worth watching the show for as it was a shoe string budget and the rest of the actors were shockingly terrible.
Kenneth Williams was the shining knight that kept a bad production from going down the tubes and I would watch the show again simply for S.I.D.
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men (2007)
Well worth viewing despite the low budget. Brilliant story.
This is a fantastic story. Yes the production is a bit rough and nothing like the Paramount standard but all the veteran actors manage to pull off a reasonably good performance. Walter Koenig also turns to his Bester character from Babylon 5 to give depth to the alternate Pavel Chekov. It's absolutely amazing how you're actually drawn into the story within 10 minutes and you begin to forgive the low budget just for the sake of burning curiosity to find out how the story progresses and when it gets to the end, you're left with a feeling of satisfaction and the hope that it will get remade like the Sanctuary series has been. It might have been a good idea to at least have gone to the Babylon 5 production team to polish off the CGI since they were good at low budget production. There's even a kind of blooper reel at the end credits that are extremely amusing.
Doctor Who: The Runaway Bride (2006)
Technical Errors
I was left pondering over a number of technical issues with this episode since the Doctor explained early on in his first incarnation about the danger of the doors being open whilst the TARDIS is in flight.
Then there's the TARDIS scanner. The TARDIS has always had a scanner just as the TARDIS has always had a control in the centre control console to open the doors.
There was no explanation either for the arachnid since the Doctor dealt with the planet of the spiders before he regenerated to his fourth incarnation. These stories are too short and are failing to provide any background. For a franchise that is older than Star Trek, it's coming up short when filling in the gaps, crossing the t's and dotting the i's. Perhaps I'm taking it too seriously as it does entertain you for a spare 40 minutes or so providing you ignore Catherine Tate.
Wide Awake Club (1984)
Mike Myers - Technical Information
Of course Mike Myers was seen because he was Mallett's "warm up man". Quite an important role because his job was to keep the energy and enthusiasm of the audience as high as possible before the show starts and during the show's commercial breaks. That's quite a feat at 6am. So he'd tell jokes and silly stories during the commercial breaks and wind the audience of mainly kids up just before the end of the break. Most shows that are filmed in front of an audience have a warm up man or an M.C. Mike's done better than most coz whoever would have thought that one of the Mallett Minions would end up inventing Austin Powers - International man of mirth.
Doctor Who: Dimensions in Time (1993)
Oh Dear! Is too generous a description.
I've been a Doctor Who Fan since Tom Baker and was unsure about Peter Davidson when he took over. It was never ever about the actors who tried their best to make the lead their own and Tom, Peter and Jon Pertwee all did a wonderful job. I don't feel embarrassed about this adventure but more angry and annoyed. I thought Sylvester McCoy was pretty dodgy as the doctor until I saw the feature film with Paul McGann and then saw him in the Scottish comedy Still Game when I realised he had the ungodly task of trying to work with poor scripts for the series. Turns out that Sly was actually an exceptional actor forced to make the best of a shockingly poor script. This is absolutely without any doubt no exception and it would seem that anything the late John Nathan Turner wrote or had anything to do with turned to sh}te. This segment in the Doctors long history once again treats the Doctor as nothing more than the court jester brought out to play the fool yet again and is best left to drift into the mists of time as the script is diabolical since the BBC tried to cram what should have been a 120 minute adventure into two five minute cans of worms. At best this is a pantomime and that's exactly how Kate O'Mara and John Pertwee treat their characters and manage to pull the best out of a bad job. Far too much has been crammed into such a short period of time as this and it's just like the parody of Star Wars in 30 seconds only not at all funny. I only hope that Russell T. Davies is a good enough writer to bring the Doctor out of the hole that has been mercilessly dug for him and so far seems to be doing a really good job. Be warned that this is without doubt undeniably awful and should only be viewed by the most die-hard insatiably curious amongst Doctor Who fans.
