Superhero Movie (2008)
Fart yourself a Funny
Like many spoof films featuring Leslie Nielsen, this one falls as flat as a fart.
Ever since Airplane, spoof films have set out to make something as laugh-out-loud funny, but few have failed to make the grade.
Sadly, Superhero Movie goes the same way. Parodying the first Spiderman movie, the film had great potential if slightly cardboard-delivered acting.
But what let's it down most is the way the producers and actors grasp a funny moment and then cling on to it until the gag is well and truly dead.
This goes mostly for the Big Fart Scene. You knew it was coming, spoiling the romantic moment, and you chuckled at the first fart. Three minutes in to the farts and you're reaching for the fast forward button...
Watch if you're really bored and can't find something on the Dave channel.
Knight Rider 2010 (1994)
Trading On The Name
If you're expecting the hairy chest of David Hasselhoff and the retro cool Pontiac of KITT then don't bother with this movie. Purported to be loosely based on the original series it has no character called Knight, no reference to the Foundation for Law And Government and has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Knight Rider. In fact, it's rubbish. A bounty hunter operating outside the law gets caught up in a love triangle with his former girlfriend and her disabled boss. Somehow he turns down a Ferrari, an AC Cobra and a 1950's piece of American automobile history to rebuild an old hot rod car, coating it in bulletproof material and making a computer that can talk. Hence the ability to trade on the Knight Rider brand. Aside from that, it's nothing other than an attempt to keep the name alive until Glen A. Larson finishes writing the script for the new Knight Rider movie, due out in 2008.
Free Enterprise (1998)
Absolutely great fun; can't wait for the sequel!
Despite the majority of the cast being relative unknowns to the UK market (not including William Shatner), I thought that this film worked extremely well and everyone involved gelled together very well.
Eric McCormack's impersonation of Captain Kirk whilst trying to get the delectable Audie England's character back together with her love interest is definitely one of the highlights of the film, along with Shatner's rather amusing yet entertaining Julius Caesar rap.
Well written and exceptionally well researched with references back to many episodes of the original series of Star Trek, this is a great film that will be enjoyed by all and loved by both Sci-Fi geeks and Sci-Fi critics alike.
Definitely one for the DVD collection and I can't wait for the sequel.
