Naui ajusshi (2018)
Emotional
I'm writing this through episode 15 of 16, as it becomes clear I won't get the ending I want.
I'm unsure on the stars to give because I have hated and loved this show to the extremes.
I've watched a lot of depressing series and movies on purpose, but this has broken me and I'm not sure I will watch the final episode.
As well I would like to mention I have stayed up watching this for 15 hours straight, through the night, just hoping I would see something happy and rewarding.
SPOILERS BELOW
I understand there was a controversy and quite an understandable one regarding the age of the two main characters which led to the clarification that this was not romance between the two characters.
Well whatever it was I needed them to be together.
I feel genuinely hurt and powerless as I'm watching two people miss each other entirely after all they've been through together and the pain they've endured. This show made me empathise so much that I can't stand the idea of Ji-An not having Dong-Hoon.
I'm actually upset seeing that he might remain with a woman who caused him so much pain, and let such a special and strong human who has protected him behind his back.
Maybe because my age is a lot closer to Ji-An I don't see as much of an issue as IU did, but I really feel as if this show presented me with soulmates who just aren't going to be together in the end.
I love sad endings, but after all this pain and sadness I just can't take anything less than a picturesque ending, and I don't think I will.
I feel as though my heart is being stamped on, and I just want Ji-An to be happy.
Middleditch & Schwartz (2020)
Short and Sweet
If you like improv or even just comedy in general this is absolutely worth your time. These guys are hilarious and a fantastic combination.
Just sitting back now hoping they do more of this!
The Dark Tower (2017)
Never Read The Books
I have wanted to read the books, as I do love Stephen King.
However it's a big old series and so a film covering most of them is pretty handy for a busy individual like myself.
As a stand alone film, this was pretty great. Very enjoyable, lots of emotion.
The boy, the gunslinger, the magician, all very well portrayed, complex, superbly acted.
Supporting characters were all very good and brought a lot in the way of story, world building and motivation.
If you haven't read the books and want a good action film not polluted by awful attempts at humour after every life or death situation, go for this!
Dead to Me (2019)
Halfway Through
I'm only half way through the series at this point but I absolutely love it.
I love the characters, the story, the twists, and more than anything Linda Cardellini.
Such a complex series where all the characters are angry and sad at all their own issues and shortfalls, so full of humans and their flaws.
The episodes are only half an hour each, so worth trying the first episode!

The House That Jack Built (2018)
Maybe closer to an 8 (R rated version)
I like to rate films high if I feel they have too low a rating.
Just want to pick apart two things that I've seen in a lot of reviews here first...
1. As with most serial killer films, this is not about a guy we are supposed to sympathise with or even like. He is a grotesque person and that's why it's a great film.
2. This is not some hyper mysogynist gore fest which celebrates the murder and mistreatment of women and children. It's about a damn serial killer, whose evolution we witness. We don't get to see his origin but clearly he has issues as he is, again, a serial killer. When did people start taking issue with these films?
Just sit back and enjoy this journey of a serial killer, a mental narcissist, a psychopath, as he goes from being a weak obsessive compulsive killer to one who takes risk after risk once he decides not to hide who he is anymore.
It's a fantastic exploration into just how dark and selfish people can be, if you're paying attention. It's great to take a dip into a film which is just confident in its belief that people are just awful.
It's refreshing to see underdeveloped, imperfect characters. I've seen people complain about how 2 dimensional some of the female characters are, which is ignorant of the fact that these kinds of people absolutely exist in reality, and that this character doesn't seem to target people who might have the spirit to fight back. Serial killers are predators, not idiots.
Plus it even gets mentioned in the film, maybe those critics who walked out of the initial showing shouldn't have been allowed to review a film they didn't even sit through.
It's a simple message, people aren't perfect, and some are less perfect than others.
Garfunkel and Oates: Trying to Be Special (2016)
Love these girls
Very unique act of 2 fun young girls doing the slightly crass but always clever thing that I really couldn't draw a comparison to. I use the word crass but they're brilliant with it, not like Amy Schumer just being as dirty as possible, they tend to mislead a little with sweet sounding tunes and their lovely singing voices.
They're just a bag of fun, don't know if they genuinely messed up in the middle or not but it was funny seeing Kate running around with a laptop, and just added to the character of the performance. PLUS Anthony Jeselnik introduces the show hilariously.
Had a smile on my face the whole time, but go for it, give it a try.
Breathe In (2013)
I won't cry but I might
I will keep this short and sweet before I burst into tears.
Watch the film. Acting 10/10 (oh my god I love Felicity Jones). Directing 10/10 I found the pacing incredible and the story told like mother used to read at bedtime. Tension 10/10 gets it's own rating because there is about half an hour speech in total, the film is carried mostly by the ability to read emotions from the characters faces and knowing exactly what you would be thinking in those situations. This film requires an awful lot of empathy.
There is nothing I want to say about it that cannot in some way ruin the experience. It is not a film it is an experience. Half an hour has passed since I watched the credits roll, I'm still shaking, and I still can't think straight. This film got into me through personal cracks when it forced me to empathize with the fissures between the characters, forced me to seek them out using an empathic intuition I try to keep shielded at all times. But lo and behold it snook under my shield and just when I thought it was about to lift my helmet and kiss me, I instead received a disjointing uppercut. I still don't know if I found the characters to be inspiringly strong, or if I'm distraught at their weakness. But then aren't we all weak in the face of love? Love is something that creeps under your shield while you're focused on something else, before you know it you can be looking into love's eyes whilst she strokes your cheek and closes her eyes as you both depart from this dimension and float through infinity. Or she can sucker punch you and walk away laughing. I won't tell you which ending you get but you'll know from the start which ending the characters need, but by the end you'll either be dazed from a sweet kiss, or a sour uppercut.
Man of Tai Chi (2013)
New favourite film
I consider myself a little biased towards Keanu Reeves for reasons I don't fully understand. Perhaps I empathise with him, knowing full well how difficult a life he's led so far, and how hard he tries not to seem above anybody else in a world where everyone competes to be such.
In any case, I found his directorial debut to be incredible. I kept pausing the film to drag the experience out a little longer. I absolutely intended to see it at the cinema but discovered it wouldn't be showing anywhere I could see it, but I will purchase the DVD the moment it comes out to support Mr Reeves.
But I digress. The film is for martial arts fans, I can't review it as anything but a martial arts fan, because the entire story is about a humble "Man of Tai Chi," a renowned soft energy, peaceful martial art, become something much darker. I only recommend this if you have some knowledge of the nature and styles involved.
The development of Tiger's Tai Chi throughout the movie was fascinating, especially when the almost "supernatural" aspect is brought about, as his character developed and we saw more of Keanu's character, I began to care less and less about everything else in the movie, and prayed for a decent fight scene between the two. I was left very satisfied.
To comment on Keanu's acting in this, I feel he knows his own weakness of being a little stiff at times, and played to that tune perfectly in this film. His stiffness and indifference paved the way exceptionally for the moments his insanity became apparent, and he even played that way as he was fighting. It seemed as though he had his own style entirely, and really came across as indestructible and a character to be feared.
In conclusion I can't recommend it enough, it's my new favourite film and I can't wait to see his next projects, with that said you are reading a review when you could be watching the film and gathering your own opinion! DO ITTTTT
Sukûru deizu (2007)
My goodness
Not for the faint of heart, this anime misleads you at first with vibrant backdrops, beautiful animation, and positive themes like friendship and love. However, Love very quickly loses it's hold on the story as more and more characters are introduced and the downward spiral begins.
If you're anything like me and get attached to characters instantly you'll find at least one character you're rooting for, but as you descend through the chaos and deepening darkness you should start to feel something for almost every single character.
The way School Days gradually and carefully shifts gears is incredible, as you realize all the dark themes were there since the start, subtly.
And the darker and darker it gets you are constantly reminded by the title name that even though the matters at hand are so small and trivial, in "School Days" love, or what you think is love, can be all that matters, and it make can or break your entire "world."
