A Binge-watchingworthy series One
26 February 2024
Well, as the 'Terrible' poster observed - a lot of changes.

Some of the writing introduced a few twists and reimagined storylines. Overall, we enjoyed the whole series. True, it did almost tell the whole first series from a different perspective than the M. Night Shyamalan film (which was stellar) - but it was still pretty good. Looking forward to three more series!

The one disappointment was the ending of the final episode. We felt the 'Big Fish' sequence didn't work at all. The huge wall of water raised by Aang in the Shyamalan film was far superior. Everything else in that episode was really good though.

Despite the 'Big Fish', the SFX contribution to the film was superb, and the richness of the scenery and costumes really enriched the whole series. Well done to all concerned - bring of the rest of the element Benders!

Heartstopping Moments
13 August 2023
I truly believe that this is the most extraordinary film that I have ever watched. The writers and everyone involved with the film have created a high degree of tension and anxiety for the safety of the main characters and the storyline thread is cohesive and involved.

When you watch, it is natural to want the characters to be safe and achieve their dreams. Although the characters in the film are clearly drawn, their movements, speech and appearance are very realistic.

Almost the entire film is set in the high mountains with the most difficult of weather conditions taking centre stage. At times you feel that you are right there with them in the mountains that are snowbound, icy, and forbidding. A very realistic and palpable tension builds inside the viewer as the story unfolds.

At every point, and right to the end, your heart goes out to the main characters. All those involved with this film from the actors to the writers and the graphic artists to the producers deserve every top accolade that can be awarded to them. I have never been so gripped by a film that I could not bear to miss a minute of what was being played out, as I was with Summit of the Gods.

Truly heart stopping, and on my list to watch again. Thank you for all the efforts that you all put in.

The Best of the Best
9 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched at least six and a half decades of television, films, Anime and Documentaries. I can honestly say that with all that experience of the good, the bad and the hopeless, Lockwood & Co is the Best of the Best.

The writing is absolutely stellar, matched only by the acting and the scenarios as they are enacted. The scene settings, the sound effects and the CGI representations of the various vengeful spirits are all top notch and the stories behind each traumatic manifestation of the Spirits concerned are well thought out and brilliantly acted.

I have watched the whole series many times now and given it the double thumbs up. I absolutely love it and all our key actors. We need a second series as soon as possible please, from everybody involved. We must find out what Penelope Fitz is up to because it is clearly nothing good. And all the Lockwood & Co Fans want to know what is in the locked room! All three of the central key actors were superb and we want to see more and the sooner the better please.

Well done to the Writers, Actors, Directors, Designers, CGI and SFX experts for devising such a unique and entertaining series.

Netflix, please commission Series 2 of Lockwood & Co as soon as possible. To all three of the key actors - please return for future series because you really ARE Lockwood & Co - and you really ARE all brilliant. 👍😊 Alison.

P.s. Only teeny spoilers present here.

Totally brilliant writing and acting!
21 June 2019
We absolutely loved Good Omens and really hope that there will be a second series! Neil Gaiman is a highly skilled and imaginative writer and the casting of Michael Sheen and David Tennant in their respective roles is superb. They played off each other so well and developed a good camaraderie despite their proscribed identities. That aspect made it so watchable.

We are dedicated Terry Pratechett fans, and have read his Discworld books over and over again through the years. Regarding the various film renditions of Terry Pratchett books - we both feel that Good Omens is absolutely the best ever - so well put together.

Thank you Neil Gaiman, and all who were involved in this production, especially the key actors. Please let us have a second series Neil - the first one is truly brilliant!

Lucifer: A Devil of My Word (2018)

Fox need to sack the people who make their choices...
31 May 2018
This isn't the first time that Fox have canned series that are really popular but this time they have gone too far. I would like to suggest that we all boycott Fox because they really are the pits, as we say in Britain.

We love Lucifer! The writing has been quirky and the character development has been frankly unexpected and interesting, and Fox will have to go a long way to ever get our votes as an entertainment provider of choice. They stink!

We signed the various petitions to try and get the team and the series picked up by a more discerning entertainment provider, but I guess there will be more power amongst the American audiences because it was an American creation.

Any good news out there at all fellow suffering fans???? Please pick Lucifer up someone - such a successful and enjoyable show.

Watch it and ignore the critics!
9 May 2013
We watched ' Star Trek - Into the Darkness this afternoon (May 9th 2013).

I am not going to reveal specific details because this film is so new that I am aware that many people still have not had the opportunity to watch it, and I do not wish to ruin their experience.

Having read the points raised in the 'maddog' review I just wanted to say that we found it to be a truly absorbing and brilliant film, and our views are so diametrically opposed to 'maddog' that I genuinely wonder if he/or she actually watched the same film - or slept through it and took a wild guess as to its quality.

Star Trek - Into the Darkness is mainly a fast paced action film interspersed with scenes of human interest which facilitates the deeper development of the main characters and their inter-relationships. The phrase 'bonding under fire seems appropriate.

I would urge people not to be dissuaded from watching this film because a reviewer cannot see the link between Gene Roddenberry's much vaunted ideals and therefore trashes J.J. Abrams work. Let me just say that as I am in my 66th year, I have watched ALL the Star Trek series and films and can advise that this film combines a serious reflection of William Shatner's portrayal of James T. Kirk but also matures Chris Pine as the film progresses. As Roddenberry was closely involved with original Star Trek series I therefore believe that he would approve the direction that Abrams is taking the latest incarnation of Star Trek.

Star Trek - Into the Darkness is aptly named. It is rich in plot detail and exciting to watch. It will have many people sitting on the edge of their seats, willing those embroiled in battle to succeed. Even the villain (stunningly portrayed by Benedict Cumberpatch) warrants a certain amount of sympathy from all fair minded people.

My advice - Go, Watch - and be thrilled by a brilliant film. We will go and see it again!!

Our thanks to all those involved in bringing this to our screen - great job!

Doctor Who: Asylum of the Daleks (2012)

Genuinely Good
1 September 2012
No Spoilers - but an honest review.

I really had personal doubts as to whether I wanted to continue watching Doctor Who when I saw that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill were being pushed out of the show (so I felt).

All I can say to anyone who reads this and hasn't watched this episode yet - DON'T miss it! It really is brilliant, and I am so glad that I gave it a chance. It was exciting, (after a somewhat startling beginning) - interesting writing and a lovely twist.

I shall be interested to see how the writers develop the plots of the next few weeks - but personally, I WILL miss both Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill and the contribution they have made to Doctor Who.
