Wish Me Luck (1987)
An entertaining series
A creditable depiction of SOE and Resistance operators. The risks run by them and the strain they were under was immense. Third series understates actual support given to FFI on real-life Le Crest. And ending was a bit cheesy. But definitely worth watching.
Arabesque (1966)
An enjoyable film but nothing special
Seems like a follow up to Charade but with less charismatic stars.
Predestination (2014)
Can't make my mind up
This is either a terrible story well told or a great story badly done. As it comes from Heinlein, I tend to the latter
Judy (2019)
Great Judy in a disappointing film
I loved Renee Zellweger but felt the story around her could have told the story of her life more fully
The Lady Vanishes (2013)
Average version
This is a very uninspired version rescued by a first rate performance from the lead
Arrival (2016)
Achieved less than it promised
An interesting and thought provoking film. Somehow it didn't tell the story in a comprehensible fashion. Not helped by score in final sequences obliterating the dialogue
Ocean's Eight (2018)
A decent film
There is a lot of negativity about this film. It doesn't compare well with higher numbers in the series. But viewed alone it stands up well. I really liked the Anne Hathaway character and Sandra Bullock is good as ever. Suspend your preconceptions and give it a chance.
Darkest Hour (2017)
Great film, good story, some liberties with history
All of the elements covered occurred happened, and the words spoken were spoken, but by different people and at different times. Good evocation of historic atmosphere but would have preferred a little more lighting. Not sure Oldman captured essence of Churchill
