Vehicle 19 (2013)

what a terrible waste of a concept !
30 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A newly paroled American goes to South Africa , picks up a (wrong)rental car concealing a phone, a gun and a woman tied and gagged. It sounds like a good thriller but then the ruin of a potentially good story starts. Paul Walker, the tourist has been shown to be so daft that you wonder if he even read the script before appearing in the movie ! A dumbest of paroled convict would know that there is something seriously wrong when you find a message "keep it clean" and a gun with a silencer! Now rather than going to the police, you are running around with a woman tied in the back of your car in an alien country while a seemingly very impatient wife awaits you! He is flashing the gun to the woman(hostage) without listening to her but he is very obedient to an unknown man at the other end of phone line without apparent reason . Paul also keeps shouting and beating the poor car steering needlessly and that is irritating .

And then you take a stand to right a wrong! Meanwhile a goon who is incompetent enough to leave a hostage in a rental car has the resources to do a background check upon the tourist in USA and put whole of the law enforcement of the city at his tail!

This movie has so many inconsistencies and lack of thought in its execution that by the end you are frustrated and quite honestly a little bit angry at the fact that this same fellow did "Running Scared" . This is a terrible movie with shallow characters, poor production quality , scrappy screenplay. It should not be watched and Paul should vow to himself not to do anything this idiotic a movie or else he will disappoint his fans very much. My advice to all having watched Paul Walker in a any of his other movies is to avoid this disaster.

Small apartments and apparently smaller lives but not so small a lesson!
6 March 2013
This movie is weird and disturbing movie when it starts but by the end it proves true to the purpose it is intended to have. The lives of the residents of an apartment building change when the owner is accidentally killed by one of the inhabitant. It take a while to get the hang of the pulse of the movie and it requires a lot of patience. The main protagonist is a loner and a voyeur who misses his ill(mentally) brother from whom he gets his taped messages. Meanwhile he is trying to dispose off the dead body of the owner.

You do not fall in love with its characters or empathize with them but it definitely scares you to see their lives and you pray not to end up like them. But there are few moments when you feel sad for the people portrayed who are stuck in their little world and have distant hopes of escape from it. This movie forces you to confront or at least acknowledge the alienation, apathy, and surrender of some in the modern society who live on it fringe with little expectation of any worthwhile impact on anyone's life other than their own. But still it leaves you with a nice little message about forgiveness , family and the meaning of a well lived life.

You are not going to remember this movie for long but it's decently directed eerie movie for a select few who are patient enough to take a lesson home.

PS: Watch at your own risk.Either you will hate it or you will applaud the efforts for such a real depiction of lives in small apartments!

Robot & Frank (2012)

A story lot more humane than so many other human stories!
6 March 2013
A not so retired thief and kleptomaniac elderly who is slowly losing his memory is put in the care of a robot in not very distant future. Seems like a thin plot! But 20 minutes into the movie and you are emotionally invested in this beautiful story. The initial reticence for having a robot to take care of him,the talks between the thief and caretaker robot and last but not the least the strong bond and trust that eventually takes roots is beautifully filmed. Meanwhile a theft is planned and executed with the thief trying to pass on his skills to the robot.

This is a cinema that touches your heart and you root for the old guy and the robot. There are also a few chuckles along the way. If you want to spend one and a half hour watching this movie you will not be disappointed and the sweetness of this movie will definitely linger on for a while. I will strongly recommend it to all who enjoy good stories. My rating 7 out of 10.
