The Truth About Jim (2024)
Pure Speculation
The only evidence presented in this "documentary" is pure hearsay with Ms Barter trying to hype up the suspense with over the top narration to lead the viewer where she wants to take them.
This does far more harm than good. Mobs act on feelings and emotions; law enforcement does not.. Feelings are what lead people to shoot up pizza parlor because they think it has a hidden basement where crimes are being committed. Feelings lie.
I'll grant that J Mordecai was probably a horrible person. But to wonder what an FHA instructor who teaches agriculture is doing with a hunting knife and guns is akin to wondering what what a baker is doing with some egg beaters and a rolling pin... It ain't unusual.
I really wonder what the true motivations are for this documentary.
The Beatles: Get Back (2021)
Thank you Mr Jackson.
When a moment in time is so perfect that it can't be recreated or revisited, it must be remembered. That's what Mr Jackson has done with "The Beatles: Get Back".
We're all familiar with the finished product, the songs the Beatles gave us. The songs that I've been listening to for almost 60 years now. What we aren't familiar with was the creative process that John, Paul, George, and Ringo went through to create their art. We remember that they broke up, with acrimony implied. What we never witnessed (until now) was how beautifully they complemented each other. As mere mortals, we could never imagine how four individuals could sync and dovetail, imagine and create, to give the world a taste of heaven.
This documentary isn't about "how the sausage is made". It's about how "Michelangelo sculpted David". Every step is in itself beautiful, enchanting, daring, and oftentimes very humorous. We see energy and creativity in action, the give and take. We also know the end result, and knowing that end result makes the process even more fascinating. I for one assumed that the creation of "Let it Be" would be the most interesting. I never suspected "Get Back" would take that honor.
Mr Jackson presents a wonder-full documentary of four young men creating music that is known to generations. The editing is superb as is the restored footage. All with a soundtrack that is truly beauty-full.
Thank you Mr Jackson.
Cinderella Man (2005)
Great Movie!
I loved the movie - its portrayal of character in the face of adversity is a tale for the ages. My only complaint is its unfair treatment of Max Baer... Contrary to the movie, Baer did not gloat over the death of an opponent in the ring. He actually took care of the man's family and put the man's children through school. Also, to the consternation of Hitler, Baer beat the German boxer, Max Schmeling, while wearing a "Star of David" on his trunks. (The Nazis subsequently banned all media of Baer, by the way - Baer was raised Catholic.) Cinderella Man is an excellent movie. But I think Max Baer deserves better treatment. Baer seems a fascinating character in his own right and I'd think worthy of his own movie......
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Outstanding!
There are so many subtleties in this movie that each viewing is as entertaining as the first. Sure, it relies on the quirkiness of its characters. But their quirks are only enough of a stretch from the norm so as to allow most of us to see our own. As a result, we're laughing at ourselves while we laugh at the characters. Likewise, at the end of the movie when Napoleon "follows his heart".... And succeeds! We realize we can too.
To those who think it didn't have a plot, neither did "Sienfeld". To those who think its popularity is dictated by Sundance, try to recall the movie "The Spitfire Grill". Don't feel bad if you can't.
"Napoleon Dynamite" stands on its own. Congrats and thank-you to all involved in its creation.
