Heroes (2006)
Great Show When it Started, but Went Downhill after Season 3.
Heroes is an interesting show, but after Season 3 the show just started to fall apart, since they had written off or killed off every character that was cool. I personally thought they did a great job with the villains, rather than the heroes. For example, Arthur Petrelli, who is Godfather-shady, gets killed off, which sucked because he was such a cold, manipulative and greedy character. Before that, they kill off Elle Bishop, the adorable sociopath with the power of electricity, who keeps me guessing as to whether she's in love with Sylar or not (since she zaps him furiously in one episode, and in the next, has sex with him). And speaking of Sylar, he is a very fascinating character, and is essentially the Hannibal Lector of primetime TV. He is cool, smooth, shady and has a dark sex appeal. However, after Season 3, the writers weren't really sure what to do with him, and he went from a cool character to a wild, insane man running around the woods in blood-covered sweats with no recollection of who he is. What a waste of time, and what a waste of Zachary Quinto's amazing acting talent. Also, after Season 3, the series stopped making sense...period. And, the triplets played by Ali Larter, just confused me, and Ali Larter does not possess the ability to show strong emotions; her acting comes off as forced.
A great show that started to fall apart.
Sex and the City (1998)
Horrible Show, and have no idea why women like it so much....
Let me just start by saying that I don't really like chick shows or chick flicks that much, and this show tops the list of chick stuff that I hate more than anything else. I hate this show more than I hate When Harry Met Sally. First of all, these women have the best of everything: they have beautiful New York apartments, great careers, a closet full of designer clothing, have sexy men at their beck and call and have a close friendship, and they STILL find something to bitch and moan about. That's all those women did on the show is bitch and moan about their own self-manufactured drama. That's right, crap they bring upon themselves, and it's very annoying.
One thing that really grinds my gears about the show is that Sarah Jessica Parker spends the entire episode talking in circles and her grand conclusion is that she HAS no conclusion. Then what was the point in all that? What was the point in going around and analyzing every single nuance without coming to any sort of resolution? Most of the time I have no idea what she is talking about anyway.
Another thing is that the characters aren't real characters, but stereotypes. You have your thinking analyzing woman, your nymphomaniac man-eater who says "give it to me" and "go home" to every man simply because she feels that she can, the hardworking attorney who really has a bitter feeling towards men in the first place and the Park Avenue yuppie girl who does nothing but whine and pine for her white knight. The women are shallow, vacuous and do nothing but get together to complain about things that are just ridiculous. These chicks remind me of the girls that were mean to me in high school (so why the hell would I want to watch them now?). These women seem to feel that they are at liberty to treat men like crap, and then bitch about men treating them like crap, because that's the "cool and hip" thing to do.
This show is exactly why I don't really care for chick shows.
A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
Best Comedy EVER and my favorite movie of all time.
What can be said about this movie? It's so good that describing how excellent it is just can't really be put into words, but I'll give it my best shot.
The best character by far is Otto, the lovable, ex-CIA agent "weapons man" who is actually dumber than dirt, yet likes to read books on philosophy (but would be better off with Dr. Seuss). Kevin Kline deserved that shiny Oscar for his portrayal of a character so painfully stupid that he has no idea how dumb he really is.
Jamie Lee Curtis plays the role of the sexy American girl who seduces John Cleese in an effort to find out whether he knows where the diamonds are, but since John Cleese is stuck in a loveless marriage with an uptight, frigid bitch, he's REALLY hooked by Jamie Lee Curtis.
And of course, who can forget the lovable Michael Palin as the kind-hearted animal lover with a bad stutter who has the job of "rubbing out" the little old lady but accidentally pops off her little puppies (he is heartbroken by this) but feels no guilt for taking out a little old lady (who actually isn't particularly nice, and has heart troubles anyway).
What makes this movie so awesome is that there are real characters, not stereotypes, and the movie is wonderfully quotable, and has that Monty Python flavor but with a true plot that viewers can hook into, even if they don't like or haven't seen Monty Python before.
wonderful movie, my favorite movie ever.
Ghost Adventures (2008)
Interesting and Entertaining Show
My brother got me hooked on this show after I got sick of Ghost Hunters, which are a collection of jack-offs who jump at small noises. These three boys have personality: Zak is the leader of the pack, Aaron is the giggly, goofy, cuddly bonehead, and Nick is the quiet, purposeful one. They go to paranormal locations that I have never heard of, and some that I have heard of (such as Bobby Mackey's, Ohio State Reformatory, which is in my parents' hometown). Some of the episodes have been ridiculous and they have come back with nothing, but they take it in stride. They have found some really creepy things in some places, though. (it's difficult to say without spoiling any episodes for anybody). However, you can watch full episodes on youtube.com.
It's also interesting to see Zak go from an egotistical prick (as seen in the original Ghost Adventures documentary) to an emotional and empathetic guy. For example, in the original episode where they went to the Silver Queen, he mocked the lady ghost who committed suicide in there. Later on, he brought her flowers and a lovely apology and spoke gently to her, realizing that he did indeed hurt her feelings. He seems to be a "sensitive", or picking up on the emotions of others, and has developed a sense of empathy (all of the guys have).
It's a fun way to pass time and get a nice good scare on occasion. The scariest episodes I've seen are Bobby Mackey's, Ohio State Reformatory, Mizpah Hotel.
Star Trek (2009)
Wonderful Movie. I Take It All Back About Zoe
This Star Trek movie was wonderful. I went to go see it with my dad (a huge Star Trek fan) and my brother, and loved the origin story. It was interesting to see everybody's back story as well as the crew banding together for a common cause.
I loved the casting. I thought Chris Pine, a very handsome leading man seen in ridiculous romantic comedies, was well cast as Captain Kirk. He portrayed a cavalier, arrogant attitude that we've all grown to love. Simon Pegg was hilarious, and Karl Urban was actually my favorite as Dr. McCoy, who comes off as a bigger dick than House. Of course, Zachary Quinto fit the role of Spock like a glove, and we see that Spock does have a sense of emotions and empathy, even though he doesn't show it.
The special effects were awesome, soundtrack was beautiful and the story was great. As for Zoe...I know I said that she played a icy frigid bitch. I take that all back. I take back all the smack talking I said. She's actually a pretty lovely actress. The way the character was written was to make her a tougher character....and I'm sorry I talked so much smack. It's not a nice thing to do.
Anyway, great movie, but they should have chosen another actress for Uhura.
All That (1994)
In Living Color for Kids
Wonderful sketch comedy show. I remembered watching this show when it first came out and a lot of sketches are very memorable, such as Pierre Escargot, Dear Ashley, the Loud Librarian (my personal favorite). I've enjoyed this show since I was 9 years old and still love it today. Best way to describe it is that it's In Living Color for Kids.
Casting was excellent and put a lot of young stars on the map including Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell and Amanda Bynes and also brought us the wonderful Gabriel Iglesias when, as he puts it, a lot smaller. (a 2X, or a Dos Equis.).
If you want to watch the show, stick with the original cast, that's the best, and then when they had Amanda Bynes.
