Why is this movie highly rated?
19 June 2023
I don't know if there was good PR at work at the time of launch. But the movie felt terrible from the start to finish. It's just over dramatised (read 'bollywood masala'), bad acting and terrible scenes.

Yeah Farhan must have gone through a gruelling training to seem like Milkha Singh (and so I'll give it 2 stars instead of 1) but that's besides the point!! To start with there has to be a decent copywriting and direction and all other finer elements of story telling to come together to make up a watchable movie.

I grew up around some sports people and god they just hated it. I dunno if Milkha Singh actually was part of the film-making, but it just seems such a bad attempt at capturing his biography.

Perfect in every way
20 June 2022
I watched this for the first time in my 30s and immediately understood why Satyajit Ray is such a legend. This is cinema in its truest form. Captures life so beautifully. Satyajit's understanding of photography/cinematography for his time, is such a treat to witness. This is an institution on what a brilliant mind, can do with limited resources.

Also, props to the Criterion Collection for cleaning up and denoising the print, sound, and jitter. (The original prints were lost in the infamous fire at the National Film Archive of India at Pune in 2003.)

Absolutely Brilliant
20 June 2022
Sometimes watching older series/movies, even the very highly rated ones isn't that fun, but this one is truly timeless. The acting is amazing. The story and script is amazing. The direction is amazing. Packs so much punch in just 13 episodes. I watched it the second time right after my first viewing to get the details I had missed.

Very underwhelming
19 June 2022
The acting is ok, people here seem to be giving too much credit to it. Story and dialogs are boring. Too long... drags on and on. Very underwhelming, at least 2022 standards.

Run-of-the-mill animation to cash in on Star Trek
28 August 2021
I thought this will be similar to "The Clone Wars" (from Star Wars). The Clone Wars is brilliant in the way it fills in the Star Wars story. Dave Filoni poured his heart out into that one. Lower Decks is nothing like that though. You'll be better be better-off watching South Park or Simpsons or some Disney. Anything else if you want animation.

There's a certain calm in Star Trek dialogue exchanges: In Lower Decks the characters are shouting like a generic Disney-esque characters. It feels like the producers just outsourced the contract to some animation studio. I don't know if the writers/directors even understood what makes Star Trek good. (I have similar problem with Star Trek: Discovery. I pushed through Season 1, but I just couldn't watch anymore).

Nog's story was great. Kira had significant screentime and the acting sucked

The plot fine. Loved Nog!

But in the second story Kira's acting and the long (unnecessary) conversation between her and Odo bugged me. Odo had a job to do and she will keep poking him! Also that made up voice as she was starting to choke was so bad.

Over acting
26 October 2020
Over-acting by almost everyone, but specially the young lead and her love interest. This whole thing of actors talking to the camera and explaining what they are thinking is just so overdone. It was funny in Deadpool, but just that. Also over-complicated plot. Puzzles are fun, only when there is some sense in them and they are approachable. Whatever they've tried to do here is several times more complicated than a calculus class. I don't even know if it makes any sense. Unnecessary CGI. Much of this could have been done without any CGI. They basically threw all random movie making ideas into the movie. If this is in somehow empowering for woman, cause of the female lead case, then well that's a weak reason. It doesn't have any original thought and you don't get anything at the end.

Disappointing direction and cast - not worth it
20 January 2019
Dunno why it's so highly rated. Honestly, I didn't even like Keanu Reeves in the role much. The rest of the cast and direction is just as disappointing. Watched Part 1 and 2 and the second is no better. If you really wanna get some cheap thrills from action, go all the way and watch some crappy bollywood action movies.

I wish better projects get so much budget and attention. It's sad that creative ventures struggle, while such such projects get all the budget.

Really disappointing
20 January 2019
Just not worth it. If you want to get some cheap thrills and see some guns firing than fine, but really not worth it. Dunno why it's so highly rated. To be honest, I didn't even like Keanu Reeves in the role much. The rest of the cast and direction is just as disappointing.
