Wow. Truly amazing storytelling. This gem deserves its own category of cinema. Richly engrossing with superb cinematography. Diners, Drive Thrus and Dives Foodies will revel in the reality of presumptuous haute cuisine. Ralph Fienes is stellar in his lead. Why this review needs to be 600 characters is as ridiculous as a course of bread and accompaniments without the bread. This may be the last review I ever leave for IMD but it will not be the last time I watch this film. Seriously, this is taking me longer than watching the first three courses of The Menu being served! C'mon IMDB and Amazon. We can get our point across in less than 600 characters.

Lightyear
(2022)
The Magic is Gone
4 July 2022
Once the industry standard of exceptional quality, wholesome family entertainment and thoughtful writing of modern fairytales, Disney/Pixar is less than a shell of its former self. The Lightyear storyline does not relate to Toy Story. As a stand-alone story Lightyear is flat, boring and lacks that fairytale feeling. Character development is non-existent. In fact, there are absolutely no compelling characters. How could Disney create a cat that is not even cute?? The animation is sub par and looks like it was done for a low budget TV show. Hard to believe this is the Same Pixar company that revolutionized animation. Walt would not be proud of what his company has become.
Not for Sherlock Holmes Fans

Taking one of the most iconic literary and film characters and turning him into an action film lead is ridiculous. Doing it with two of the finest actors of our time is blasphemous. Sad waste of money, intellect and time.

The Real Meaning
23 December 2021
The Wachowski brothers were living a lie. There were signs. Things didn't feel right and they knew it. They lived in a simulated reality as long as they could before becoming self aware. Then they died, had an operation and were resurrected. They fought adversity. Their vision of a successful future changed. They had to accept who they were. Ultimately, their feminine side came out as their strength. Their personal lives should have never been applied to one of the best movies ever conceived. Makes me wonder who really wrote the original script.

Go back to storytelling
4 November 2021
The Rock, Emily Blunt, Paul Giamatti and a CG cat could not save this Disney Cruise from sinking. Forcing a classic ride to be a movie without good writing was a recipe for disaster. The story sucks. Chemistry is lacking. Paul Giamatti's character was unduly minimized. Villains were lackluster. Go back to stories and don't worry about casting mega stars Disney.

Should you watch again?
13 November 2020
Yes! Stop the never ending search for the next great series. After 14 years it stands up strong. If you saw it years ago on Cinemax, you'll know what happens in general but it's still well worth another view. If you've never seen it, it's a must see.

Totally Unrelatable
6 November 2020
Your average Joe and Karen shopping for a $15M vacation home... The target audience must be about 12 people. Filming and format is fine. Maybe if they had celebrity shoppers it would be entertaining vs tone deaf in today's world.
My Octopus Teacher

Must See
14 September 2020
A rare glimpse into the world of one of the most intelligent sea creatures on the planet. Wonderfully told by a film maker who created a bond with the octopus while at the same time staying removed from its daily life.

This movie has aged like a 90's fruitcake

Let this movie live on in your memory banks without a replay. The music score alone is so cringeworthy you will be muting the volume. The plot and overall story is so basic by today's standards you will be wondering how this was ever a blockbuster. Save yourself and the memory. Don't eat the fruitcake. Throw it away.

Well played and realistic
17 July 2020
As a sci-fi fan, AI and technological advancements can be well beyond our reach in this lifetime. However, The Circle plays well balancing today's reality crashing head-on with short term technological breakthroughs. The resulting questions and power of companies like Facebook and Amazon are challenged in this story focusing on personal privacy.

I'm a huge sci-fi fan and this falls flat. A main character without the ability to show emotion? Scenes so dark you start to wonder if they just didn't want to build sets? Ridiculous gun battles. Total lack of compelling bad guys and story line. It has its moments, but they are few and far between.

Yasou!

A heartwarming period masterpiece that will pull you in and keep you entertained. I am far from the target audience and had never watched a PBS series prior. There is a cinematographic quality to this that you won't find in what is churned out in Hollywood.

Missed the mark
19 May 2020
Somewhere in this bloated dreck there was a movie trying to get out. Unfortunately, what was supposedly a good book did not translate to the big screen. Thor's character is void of almost all emotion. One can only imagine how the book got such good reviews after suffering through this movie.

Plot holes bigger than the state of Texas
9 May 2020
Was the original script given to Pacino this flawed or did this suffer from rewrite after rewrite and change in authors? Did the actual clues exist for the audience and end up on the cutting room floor? We'll never know where the blame lies, but I'm sure there is plenty to go around.
