Hyperdense Hypercube. What is the plot again?
2 May 2005
So the math took a backseat to the first movie. This one, however, is all about the completely ridiculous result of what happens when you build a hypercube. Where did the simplicity go? Where's the magical screen writing that made the first so excellent? Fans of the first one absolutely should see this movie, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the new things Hypercube throws at you. Literally throws at you, in fact. And throws at the seven new characters.

But where did it go wrong? The opening sequence is nothing short of the greatest moment the Cube series has ever seen. Draws you straight into the action, even if the first actor is bad at falling... up. From that point on, the characters take a seat and move along with a poor attempt at additional plot. We don't ever get any insight into character motive, as we did in the first movie. This person goes insane... wait, explain that one again? In addition to no character motive, the characters are completely static. Unless you had seen the first movie and were actually expecting focus on character archs, you would find yourself thinking how terribly predictable the characters are. Even more, the Cube's logical image has been destroyed, replaced by this machine gone horribly wrong in the fourth dimension.

The best part of the film is how it continually keeps you on your feet, long after you've seen it. What gave me hope for Lion's Gate was the frightening beginning and the fantastic ending. I'm still plagued by social, theoretical and mathematical problems posed in this second installment, and the ending will not disappoint. However, for those looking for intelligent theoretical sci-fi, I would look to the first, and watch it perhaps a second time.

Out of the way, Nemo
13 February 2004
No matter what the Academy has to say, this movie beats the crap out of Nemo. Despite a few glaring physics problems, such as a car rolling down a hill Slinkey style, this movie was amazing. More amazing still is it's ability to convey American stereotypes without being too offensive, and at the same time, pointing out problems with the french society as well. A good indicator that this film is good: America hates France. This movie makes fun of America. It gets nominated for the American Oscars. I mean, come on, its gotta be good.

predictable, but funny
16 January 2004
This was a really great movie, I would definately suggest it if you are in the mood for a fun movie. You can see the jokes coming from miles away, but that only serves to make the jokes funnier when they come (this is one of the only movies I can actually say that).

Enter the Matrix (2003 Video Game)
Total crap...
5 December 2003
Ok, before i get into the specifics, let me be blunt. This game was horrible, horrible, horrible ect.

First off, what were they thinking with the hacking thing? all it does is waste about an hour, it is incredibly easy and controlled, (no real hacking involved, just another game off of the main one) and it totally screws up the game. So why hack at all? Its the only thing that's halfway decent about the game.

The final level? I was laughing my head off by the time I beat it. It was a few hundred miles short of PS2's capabilities, the things show up on your screen and follow it around. When you press the left button, they go left. if you press up, they go up. Wheres the AI?? This reminded me of the really old handheld games where you have to shoot the ships as they come at you... worse then pac-man or asteroids

There are so many bugs as you reach the middle of the game, that I thought that I had to clean the disk. I take it out and, viola! its scratch free. No, PS2 doesn't have magical powers, the bugs were in the game. It crashed every time you reached the sniper level, so eventually I had to cheat to get around it.

The agents were also dissapointingly easy. Insane invincible monsters in the movie, but idiots who can't aim for crap in the game. And the multi-player mode that you get through hacking? took about a minute to figure out that if you throw your opponent over and over, you win every time

Overall this game gets about a 3/10. The 3 comes from an interesting first few missions, and you are able to play until the end just for the really cool matrix trailer. Just another crap movie-video-game

Give Mark a break
5 December 2003
For the first movie that this guy ever made, he deserves a little slack, the camera and lighting effects really arn't horrible for a black and white film. Also, there are some interesting scenes in the movie, it at least keeps your interest. overall i give it about a 4/10, which is not horrible.

All I have to say is...
4 December 2003
All I have to say is wow. Stanly Kubrick has created another masterpiece of cinema. From the downright frightening HAL computer, to the comical signs on bathroom stalls, this movie gets my highest rating: 10!!!!! (yes with five, count them five exclamation points). Although the ending was a little hard to figure out, it was one of the most amazing parts of the film This movie left me with an incredible sense of awe for Kubrick and a new respect for all things natural that humans have destroyed with computers and fossil fuels. Never has a movie made such an impact on my life and the actual way I live. That was how powerful this movie was to me.
