Dollhouse (2009)
Genius. Absolute genius.
This show is phenomenal. It keeps throwing curve-balls at you. Just when you have it figured out, something changes or you are surprised out of your mind. The acting stuns me constantly. As actives must change personalities frequently, the acting must do so as well. And the actors/actresses do not disappoint.
As a storyline, this show can't get enough. I cannot fathom why it has ended at its peak. It had so much potential and gave reason as to why messing with the human brain could end up as an apocalypse.
Watch this show. It is highly recommended and will keep you mad, happy, proud, and talking to the screen.
Watch it. Now.
Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
Sequel + Remake + Unoriginal = Utterly Predictable and Boring.
Well, here's the good: 1.) The idea is good. 2.) The acting is good. 3.) The suspense was surprising. 4.) More characters and factors. 5.) Good screen writing and screenplay.
Here's the bad: 1.) Same state 2.) Same time of year (fall) 3.) The same method of directing. 4.) Re-used characters (Katie And Micah BOTH PRESENT) 5.) Very slow at beginning. Takes a while to move long. 6.) Same plot.
Now honestly I cannot understand what drove them to make this movie (or the supposed 3rd one). I mean, the addition of more people definitely relieved expectancy and prediction. But it goes nowhere for the first 6 nights. I did, however, like the dog being there. Kind of like an extra warning system unheeded by the family. The crazy Spanish woman caretaker who knows of the spirit and tries to rid it from the house. She does get "released of service" quite early in the movie.
This movie is a bit hard to follow at points without the first movie under your belt, but it is do-able. I enjoyed it to a minimal degree. But if you have seen the first one and did not care for it, DO NOT watch this. If you fit another bill, go ahead and decide.
Oh yes one more thing. The actors really act like a family. They do it well. So take this review and do what you will. I did what I can.
DragonHeart (1996)
Can someone say... GENIUS?!
What can I say about this movie that sins it? Literally, nothing. The acting is great, the storyline is phenomenal, the humor thrives, and the special effects do not disappoint.
The storyline portrays a young Prince with a tyrannic father, who dies. The boy is injured to near death, and a dragon gives half his heart to the boy. The boy himself becomes a tyrant. A knight vows to kill all dragons until he kills the one who gave the heart. But, not all is what it seems...
This is definitely a movie for those whom enjoy a good, hearty film with a moral at its center. It is even a good family film, depending on your parenting methods (which one should hope are decent and logical). If you need a movie to kick back and relax to, watch on a snowy or rainy day, or just because, this is a great movie.
The storyline lacks no potential; utilizing all elements and keeping the audience's attention. The chosen actors for the characters was ingenious and well planned. Whoever wrote the screenplay did an astounding job. I promise, if you approach this movie with a joyous attitude, or even a skeptical one, you will enjoy it.
~~Go forth and review movies~~
Creature of Darkness (2009)
Ultimately predictable, yet wildly surprising.
OK, first off, th acting was weak and mediocre. It jumps around erratically let's just say. There are plot elements that definitely could be much better.
I did enjoy the majority of the movie, however. The alien was shown in small increments and was also plainly CGI'd and animatronic. The way the alien "saw" was a cheesy green color with watery edges. I did not like what the alien looked like in bodily shape. (Don't get me wrong, it looked bad-@$$.) My problem is with the alien's shape being extremely humanoid. It had a head, eyes, tall, and had a mouth. It's really a bit disappointing when all the creators think up is a human-like creature.
There was a creepy atmosphere that played itself very well, I might add. The bloody effects did suit well to entertain. If you're just wanting to watch a cheesy flick with decent FX, a decent alien, mild storyline and beautiful women who are not afraid to show off their bodies, this is a good movie to watch.
Bloodlust Zombies (2011)
Terrible, excruciating, freaking funny as hell.
What to say, what to say. Well, first off, the acting sucks more than a fire engine pumphouse. The lighting needs to be seriously evaluated. The special effects are worse than in that three dollar video game for your Nintendo DS you bought last year.
The scenes jump around sporadically and it is extremely hard to tell what is going on. The main character, Alexis Texas, has so little screen time (even though it's both really good and really bad), you would not even think she was the main character. The storyline has a fair idea and a mild approach to the setting.
A few good points: 1.) Alexis Texas is super super hot. A few exotic scenes are displayed with her, likely for rating purposes, that are actually quite humorous. She is also a total bad-@$$ when fighting zombies with an ax. 2.) The hilariousness of it all. The special effects are entirely worthless yet so comical you cannot help but laugh at them. There are parts that make you laugh your @$$ off. I myself was busting out ROTFLOL, if you catch my drift. The parts that were meant to be funny sucked so much they caught a giggle. The scenes without humour actually ended up being funny.
But then it suddenly ends. Classic, cheesy ending with an Alfred Hitchcock twist (kind like "The Birds). A rate it 10 out of 10 just because it made me laugh and tried hard to fail (succeeding to fail means failing at failing to succeed to fail?) So yeah. Very short, very pointless, very VERY low budget. Go watch if you need dumb humour and are 18+ years old. Lots of Tig Ol' Bitties. (There's a reason Alexis Texas is a pr0n star.)
Creature (1985)
"I swear. I couldn't possibly tell you were ripping-off Alien and hating on Germans."
**THIS MAY CONTAIN (A) SPOILER(S). BASED ON YOUR PERSPECTIVE. BUT THEN AGIN IT COULD JUST BE A BUNCH OF FORESHADOW. I GUESS IT'S ALL ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO WATCH MOVIES YA KNOW.**
OK so first of all, the introduction sucks. The narrator needs a voice check and the idea is terrible. That and it pits Germany and USA against one another for commercial supremacy. Why could it not be Russia or China or some country that actually wants to kick America's butt for space stuff? Germany is nice. They help with the ISS (Look it up if ya don't know).
Anyways, back to the point. It's a total rip-off of Alien. The landing on the Saturn moon, the creature hides a lot and doesn't show up 'til the end (that's because it looks like crap), and the format of the time period. By that I mean how it looks and feels. Watch Alien than watch this to see my point. Oh yeah, and the female characters completely scream of Ripley.
Now to the acting. Fair. Somewhat of comical relief, somewhat good acting, somewhat bad acting. All around it's easy to get over. It is much better than some movies (i.e. Interplanetary; Lost World of the Grand Canyon; Gamera; Stranded)
Cheesy sound effects. Half of the time I thought "Star Wars" for the sound effects. But on the contrary they are used to the best potential.
All around, it's a decent sit down and watch a movie on a cloudy day" movie. It's definitely not a terrible, sucky movie. But it ain't the greatest. Classic 1980's movie for low-budget. I did enjoy it. The creature confrontation was very fast into the movie. Literally within the first half hour. Still, enough babble. Go watch. You might just be surprised.
Serenity (2005)
Brilliant movie. Joss Whedon is a genius.
Phenomenal work. The acting was brilliant, I depicted a few familiar faces, and the sets were stunning. Special effects will stun you, I assure. One greatly intriguing aspect of the movie, do not fret I shall not spoil any details or the like, is the fact that it is so ingraining and demanding of one's attention. It is likely that one could slinker off to grab a snack, come back and be a tad lost in the current whereabouts of the story.
Obviously there are those whom would dislike such a movie but that is why we have opinions. Anyways back to the main idea. This is a great plot to watch if one is just wanting to watch a sci-fi movie for the hell of it, in for an enthralling ride, or interested in broadening your movie range. I think Joss Whedon, the director (also director of "Firefly", did I remember correctly?) could easily become my next favorite director; save Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Michael Bay, and George Lucas.
But hasten not to review such babble. Go watch the movie. Prepare to have your mind utterly, and completely BLOWN.
