Palo Alto, CA (2007)
This is what should be in theaters right now
This movie is an incredible testament to youth culture today. I loved every second of it, and almost didn't believe it when I was told it was made by people my own age.
Instead of watching what big studios THINK we want to see, those of us who saw this at Tribeca got to see something that we actually relate to. The characters were not caricatures (which is a first in this genre), and it promotes some *actual* creative thought. The movie also features some incredible young talent in the acting world that was very innovative of the crew to cast.
I loved this movie, I wish I could see something like this more often in the creative world.
The Mexican (2001)
crap and a half
i had to watch this movie for a paper on american portrayals of mexicans. i
obviously didn't expect much but i had NO idea what i was getting myself into. holy crap.... this movie was sure, visually ambitious (AT BEST!), but otherwise i couldn't see how the same dude that could produce 'pirates of the carribbean' could have possibly directed this flick. it was horrible, boring (i fell asleep... i can't fathom why it had to be 123 minutes long), and EXTREMELY racist as far
as how mexicans are portrayed-- they were freaking stumbling around in the
street, drunk and shooting GUNS for chrissake. he rides in an 'el camino' in
attempts to appear more MEXICAN. ugh, it's frustrating that these are technically the people that i want to be in the same business with. it's no wonder that the writer has no other noteable work, may it stay that way.
