Suzume no Tojimari (2022)
Phenomenal, Real, Cathartic
Phenomenal and Real - a deeply touching, gradually building, climactic...processing of the Tragedy, that happened on March 11. 2011.
The earthquake, the tsunami, and Fukushima...that people all across the world must still remember, and not just in Japan.
This makes this movie personal and powerful.
An expression of Grief...an Expression of Love!
Remembering, rediscovering, ourselves, the past...the lives lost...and maybe the lives saved, magically, by unsung heroes...
This magical part of the movie is actually healing...
Unexpected emotional journey, about childhood, and growing up, loss and survival, hope and love, "that moves all stars and heavens".
Thank you to all those who made it! Domo arigatou gozaimashita!
It was beautiful...and also, after all these years, since the time I was there, from April, 2011...let me understand more about something that I never understood as much before - the Magnitude of the Tragedy of the Earthquake on 3/11/2011.
May all those lost souls rest in eternal peace </3

Perfect Days (2023)
Ikiru v2.0? 😄 Most profound & recommended
Wim Wenders doesn't get younger, which is not a surprise, of course, and so his Art reflects that.
It is slower, more contemplative movie compared to some of his previous work, yet it still has some of that cheerful intellectual vigor and sometimes goofiness, that I associate with his movies. 🙂
...the dream-sequences (no spoilers) remind me of the classics (even 1st half of 20th century)...or later, say, Cocteau's Orpheus w/ Jean Marais...but also a bit Tarkovsky (say, Ivan's Childhood)...
So those are really cool inserts...and totally fit with the rest, which (and this is my point) really powerfully communicates how it is to live.
Just to live, to exist.
~like Kurosawa's Ikiru v2.0 😄 ...
To wonder about life, being alone, watching shadows and reflections passing by, and sunlight playing w/ leaves of trees rustling in the wind, as time slowly and steadily flows...to the Ocean...
This wonder is captured very well in this movie, and it could be profoundly impactful for some viewers (as it was to me).
Amazingly edited (throughout), and acting is...out of this world, sometimes (esp. Lead character). So if viewer has the patience and openness, then it can really pull them in == surprisingly immersive, given the meticulous, highly skilled realization.
...but again, it is a slow and subtle and indirect movie, wise, and laconic. Wenders is not getting younger...yet I hope he can still make many-many more... 🙂
Really great exception amidst all the mainstream eye-candy. 🙂

Thank you, Nell!
Thank you, Nell, for sharing this piece of your soul, and how it is to exist with such unbearable pain - such grief!
Your movie is like a wake up call. Waking up the comfortably numb and the dead - the living dead.
Subtly and slowly building up to an emotional climax, beautifully realized, lost in your memories, "daydreaming", inescapably, trying to hang on to what is inevitably slipping and fading away, even if it hurts beyond measure and words...
Very sorry for your loss.
I'm 99% sure this is all based on personal experience, so please accept my condolences.
I was 11 when the same happened to me. Grieving ever since. But it becomes easier with time. Forgetting works too, but only later - years later.
Thank you, again, for sharing this piece of your beautiful soul with us. <3<3.
