The Dark and the Wicked (2020)
Don't Waste Your Time
Don't Waste Your Time. There is no story, no explanation why this family is tormented, no character building. There is no explanation for what the dark entity is. Why does it exist? Where did it come from? What are its true motives? Why this family? Or, any family for that fact.
This movie moves at a snails pace, with not much dialogue between any of the characters, and I mean not much at all.
The music throughout this entire movie just sounds like a screeching, out of tune violin.
96 minutes of my life wasted, only to be left with an ending that is so far out in left field that you're left scratching your head. Lazy script writing and lazy ending. I don't get the high ratings.
That IMDB expects a novel on their movie reviews is confounding.
Below the Fold (2021)
Lazy, Boring
I gave this a movie a glance over and decided to watch. This is the least thrilling drama/crime/thriller I've had the misfortune to force myself to the end of.
Spoilers/not spoilers (nothing to spoil)...
So, two reporters in a small town pretend to do a "piece" on an unsolved murder, maybe get some reaction from the community, or at least find some tips. Nope. I can't decide if the two lead actors are wooden, or cardboard cutouts of actors. The dialogue is so bland I thought I might be watching a bad college play.
There is zero excitement, zero thrills, zero depth... basically zero everything.
I absolutely cannot stand when movie producers can't even get excited with their own movie and script. It's obvious someone threw some money at the producers, who punched a clock and said cut.
The ending was so anticlimactic the producers dumped the ending on the audience.... "Ah, nothing to see here! Not giving you and concrete answers! Sorry, no smoking gun either! Suck it up we were lazy and we know it...
These two seasoned reporters didn't come up with a juicy tip to report to local law enforcement, no scintillating leads that might help the investigation.... Nothing, nada.... Not even the story they were working on was produced or printed in the town newspaper. Just lazy.
The Nest (Il nido) (2019)
Honestly People...Come on
I do not understand the high ratings regarding this movie; I'm truly at a loss.
People want to call this movie an aesthetically, beautiful, dark and intelligent, slow burn, when in reality it's simply long, boring, and wasteful.
There is so much of nothing going on for an hour and a half, no explanation as to the motives of the psychotic mother, the brain numbing pace, the child who is so micromanaged you began to wonder if he's truly brainwashed, or just stupidly compliant.
The scenes are so long and drawn out without any cohesive understanding as to what prior scenes have to do with what is currently happening.
Just gloom, doom, an overly dominant mother, the other psychotic character, the doctor, and household staff who wander around, terrified, of who knows what.
And, that ending. Really? Surely the producers could have given better subtle cues within the movie, so when the end comes you're prepared for it all to make sense. No. You're just left scratching your head going, huh? With all that said, after the big reveal at the end, (you still hate the mother) you'd think the mother would've wanted that kid to walk... but, you have to watch it to understand what I'm saying; or just watch 30 minutes then fast forward to the end, and ask yourself it it was worth fast forwarding, or sitting through all the drivel.
Tin & Tina (2023)
I'd Give This Movie Negative -2 Stars If it was Possible
Don't waste your time on the ridiculous, terribly acted, snail paced, drivel of a pathetic movie.
The husband and wife act like killing and cutting up the dog is just the albino, evil twins way of coping with a new home, and adjusting. After they kill the dog they ask if it will be resurrected... really? No sane person would look at the butchered dog, the kids covered head to toe in blood and not pick up the phone, call the police and have those two little psychopaths immediately removed from their home.
I really just reached a point I turned it off because it was so ridiculous, that I started hoping the kids would just off the stupid parents.
Read the low ratings, they are on point about how stupid and pathetic this movie is; the producers should be banned from ever making another movie.
Plan lekcji (2022)
I Mean it's Ok...
I think this movie really tried. The problem was the movie was so slow; after the 23rd - 36th martial arts fight where no one really gets taken down, knocked out, or killed, I just used the time as an excuse to open mail, change out laundry, and basically do anything to not be subjected to another fight scene.
The dubbing was subpar, but then again I don't think I've seen a foreign film that had great dubbing anyway. The dubbing was cheesy and stilted, making the conversations awkward at times, or overly acted.
That he's supposed to be a History teacher, I don't recall any real history lessons at all, just him unnecessarily teaching his class martial arts. Why no one at the school noticed an entire room of students was rarely ever in the classroom is unbelievable.
Is the movie bad? Hmmm, I think if you have nothing else to watch it's a time killer, but I wouldn't recommend it as your go-to for an evening of action packed, keep your riveted, eyes glued to the TV kind of movie.
He's no Jason Bourne.
Halloween Ends (2022)
So Disappointed
Blumhouse productions ruined a cult classic. The entire premise was ridiculous, Michael Meyers doesn't need a crime fighting partner, the whole idea just ruined it for me. People don't watch the Halloween franchise, let alone the "last movie," to have 10 minutes of running time showing the true protagonist, who manages to get beat up by a high school senior for his mask, really?
I love Jamie Lee Curtis, the original Queen of Scream, but the whiny, skulking away and inability to stand up to morons just isn't the Laurie Strode we all love and admire.
Maybe, if we are fortunate enough to get another installment, maybe "Halloween Dreams," Laurie Strode will again find her stride, she awakens to find it was all a dream and there can finally be a movie more fitting for a queen.
Hidden (2015)
Could They Be Any Louder!
Apparently the daughter of this family in hiding has no clue how to be quiet, and spends the whole movie crying, sobbing or sulking (and what is up with the creepy doll, really?). As the movie plods along excruciatingly slow, when the somewhat action starts you'll understand the review title.
I wish they'd given more information about the circumstances about the apocalyptic nature of the film more until waiting 3/4 of the movie, it would have been helpful in understanding the overall circumstances they were facing.
Overall, absent ZoZo, the acting was good, film quality great, and quite realistic. I just wish the kid would shut up! She ruined the movie for me, and pretty much everyone's safety, so I gave it 4 stars.
Resident Evil (2022)
I love This Series!
Don't listen to the haters. As a long time Resident Evil fan, I understand the need to be creative beyond the original movies. I like the take on the past and present with Albert, Jade and Billie (however her character is annoying, as a teenager).. but as the present/future unfolds It starts to come together quite well.
Think outside of the original box and you'll se the series is rather well done.
I love Evelyn... she's evil, conniving and an awesome actress!
1883 (2021)
Love The Series - Hate the Over Exaggerated Narritve
I love all things Dutton, and I love this series. It's a bit slow, but great acting. The only off putting and irritating thing about the series is the overly drawn out, exaggerated narrative.
Isabel May plays Elsa Dutton, and her attempt at narrating in a slow, southern Tennessee drawl is so over the top it's just irritating; she doesn't talk like that when interacting with the other characters in the series. So far, her bratty, disrespectful attitude and irritating narrative has left me unable to like her character.
I hope during the next season they'll ditch her narrative and I can find something likeable about her character, Elsa Dutton.
Durante la tormenta (2018)
Don't Believe High Ratings
The concept was good, the execution not so much. The holes in the plot ruined this movie for me. The timeline and characters going back and forth in time are muddled and difficult to keep track of. However, the main character who is supposed to be a Neurosurgeon is such a bad actress you can't even empathize with her, much less believe she ever went to medical school, or even managed to make it through the additional specialized, extensive training required to become a neurosurgeon (I should know, my husband is one)
She presents as being psychiatrically unstable and unbelievably emotional and irrational, yet people who know her, colleagues, strangers and even the police treat her like she's just tired or confused instead of committing her somewhere on a psychiatric hold. She spends so much time crying and spewing angry confusion, and acting like she can't understand why everyone just doesn't believe her that you just want her to shut up. I debated fast forwarding to the end, but decided to finish the movie and leave a review.
Save yourself the wasted time and skip this muddled mess.
Alive (2018)
I Tried
I really tried to like this prolongated mess. Long story short, this movie needed less talk, a more cogent explanation as to why the flashbacks were even relevant, why was the protagonist driven to such sadistic measures, and what did the ending even mean for the two victims?
I hate sloppy endings, the writer/director/producers of Hollywood should stop trying to make people "think" beyond their lazy, loose ended attempts at genre bending final twists. The concept of leaving everyone with a different perception of what the ending could mean is overdone, lazy and predictable.
It Waits (2005)
Go Away Please. No, Really Go Away
Definition of this movie; VACUOUS: having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless.
She can't even "act" throwing up. Save precious brain cells; just pass on this movie.
The Guilty (2021)
What An Annoying Movie
I like Jake Gyllenhall. But, his acting was way over the top not necessary. If they wanted you to not like him they succeeded. It was incredibly annoying to watch, and I'm sure every 911 operator out there was rolling their eyes at how unrealistic the call center handled his pathetic, lack of empathy towards callers, not to mention his horrible attitude towards superiors.
I stopped half-way through because I just didn't care why he was "demoted" from an LAPD officer position. Even if there were redeemable qualities in his portrayal of this individual I could have cared less.
Don't bother, unless you like being insulted by bad acting and an unrealistic viewpoint of 911 operators, who should be insulted by this movie.
Terrible movie...
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
Why Hasn't Hollywood Learned
The acting was good, the plot treacherously slow. So many open plots left hanging with no tie ups in the end, or anywhere in the movie.
But, my biggest complaint, the typical Hollywood ending. The idiotic ending that insinuates we're all supposed to take something different from the ending, and find some ethereal understanding that leaves people "talking" about the movie.
In reality, you're just left scratching your head and wondering what the opening scene had to do with the ending, and why was the director so lazy he couldn't give us the benefit of the doubt and provide us with a "good olde" thought provoking ending. I don't even think the director understood the ending.
Instead were left going "huh?" as well as left to our own devices and googling to try and find a reasonable explanation of the movie ending.
My suggestion, google a movie ending explanation then skip the whole movie.
Il racconto dei racconti - Tale of Tales (2015)
What...? What Did I Just Watch?
I am just at a loss as to the purpose of the three entwined story plots, much less the movie as a whole. This movie is simply bizarre, awkward, and difficult to watch.
I really wouldn't recommend this movie unless you are bored, and want nightmares about medieval barbarities... a Brothers Grimm this movie is not.
