Hilarious

I was lucky enough to score some tickets to the NZ premier of this. We were pumped full of food and booze before the movie and i realized not ten minutes in that i needed the bathroom. Only i found the movie far to funny to want to leave at any point.

There were some real classic moments in this movie, honestly, the whole theatre was in fits of laughter almost the whole way through the film. There was even some cheering (more than once)

Edgar really has his business sorted with the directing thing, and Pegg, Frost and Freeman really help to bring this movie together!

I recommend this film, especially if you just want a good laugh! Personally, Frost was my fave in this one, he had the greatest moments!! In regards to the acting, It was all wonderful, i believed every second. This film was on par!

I feel really privileged to have been lucky enough to see it before a whole lot of people, and I hope that everyone else likes it as much as everyone in our theatre did :)

Anna Karenina (I) (2012)

Im writing this after 52 minutes of suffering..

The film is still on, but both my mother and i have decided to turn it off. Here we were, expecting a super romantic period drama. I like the idea of the story but the presentation of it is god awful. I actually want to ask for my 5 dollars back.

The only thing i have liked so far was that one dancing scene where kitty kept changing partners.

As a fan of atonement and P&P I'm extremely disappointed. I expected loads better...

I really can't say anymore, but don't even bother with this it's really stupid. Makes no sense and has no emotion. I don't even understand how these two have fallen in love because their "relationship" just happened. But according to this movie true love is licking someones face. good times.

Huge waste of an hour..

The Host (2013)

Full of bull"soul"

Warning: Spoilers
First off, this is not a movie for you if you really like the book. That said, this is also not the movie for you if you like good acting. I am a major fan of Saoirse Ronan, i think she is wonderful, but I struggled to watch this, even with her in it. The script was cheesy and the whole voice in the head thing was portrayed really weird. It felt to me like she had Dissociative identity disorder and I'm a fan of the books!! I dunno how else they could have done it, but i just found it a bit strange..

The whole love story felt really weak to me, maybe, as in the twilight films, because so much of the novel is inner dialogue, it's hard to show on film, as so make it really weak to see. I felt nothing for her liking of either characters.

The souls were wrong, I can understand the want for more action, but i hated it. They are too suspicious of everyone in the film, and there is a scene at the beginning of the book that was cut out of the film, where it's sort of explained about how the Souls work as a community, and it makes sense that Wanda can just walk in and take the groceries.

I fell bad for Meyer, the movie versions of all her books have been butchered. Yeah, i liked the twilight novels, and The host is one of my favorite novels at the moment, It's so well done!

So yeah, I'm not a fan of the film. Huge let down and just boring really. Sorry if this is a badly done review, i don't write many

I liked the UK version...
28 August 2012
I really liked this movie (i just bought the UK version) but on coming online i realized that there are two English releases. And now i'm a little irritated because on watching the trailers, the UK/US versions are ver different from one another.

So i'll just Say that i really enjoyed the UK version, i thought it was very sweet, and in some ways reminded me of Spirited away! (I think mainly the old lady haha) There is nothing quite like Studio Ghibli films, they have a sweet quality to them, which always makes for a great watch.

Now what i want to do is see the US version and compare the two.

Little Women (1994)
Where is the love?
12 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Let me just say that i have never read the book nor seen another adaptation, so this is my first "Little Women" experience... I am a huge fan of period dramas and usually figure that they are going to be soppy and romantic and usually i am correct. Usually.

I thought the acting in this movie was great, it was just some of the plot that made this film impossible to enjoy. I am sure in the book things flow a lot nicer than they do in this film..

Basically i thought that Laurie and Jo were meant to end up together, and for some reason when he proposes she says no! She says they would fight too much but they didn't fight at all in the movie.. I couldn't understand when they seemed to have such good chemistry. I've come to an understanding that in the book she considers him more as a brother but i only found this out AFTER watching the film and getting mad at her rejection of him.

When Jo's love interest is introduced all I could do was shake my head and say "no no no no" There seemed to be no chemistry there compared to what Jo and Laurie had previously. So when they kiss at the end, It all feels wrong.

Then finally, when Laurie sees the older Amy and suddenly likes her? how long has actually past since Jo's rejection of him? To me it seemed as though he was on the rebound. Their marriage wasn't romantic at all..

I just didn't feel the romance in this film they way other period films show it. It was disappointing.

The rest of the story was fine. But if you're looking for romance watch something like Wives and Daughters or North and South (Gaskell) or something Austen. They are all better than this.
