Best unbelievable story I have ever had the pleasure of watching
1 December 2013
This movie should have made it to the main stream. Like "Harold and Kumar", "Snatch" and other such movies, your definitely not watching this movie for the great believable story line or explosive drama. Once you get into the movie, however, it just gets better and better. The more ridiculous each character gets the better it gets! Another review mentioned this was a hidden gem and I couldn't agree more. It is nice to watch a movie that is original and well thought out, but at the same time doesn't take itself to seriously. I wish more movies were this entertaining. As I think about it the one thing that really makes this movie so good is that each character adds to the fun of the movie as a whole. Thumbs way up and prepare yourself to laugh.

Helped define an era

The good news is that most people that have written reviews get it. Let's be honest upfront, you are not watching this movie for the acting and it is not going to win an academy award. I do not believe that was ever the purpose or intention for this movie. What it does deliver, however, is classic songs that represent the 80's perfectly, from a musical genius. I am a musician myself, so when I use the term genius I do know what I am talking about. If you do any research into Prince, you will see a plethora of accomplishments and if memory serves me correctly, he not only writes his own music, but has written many, many hits for others. He plays like some 20 different instruments, etc. The man himself is unquestionably insane, but name a genius who isn't. Regardless, the significance of this movie is the music and the times. I don't expect this generation to live it or embrace it, but at least be able to understand it and appreciate real music, instead of this cut and paste time we seem to be living in. Besides the "purification" scene and the "what's the password" scene are just laughably dumb enough to get some entertainment value out of the whole thing!

Frustrating, but overall a good movie
29 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I read a lot of the reviews prior to watching this movie and between the reviews and rating that was given I decided it would be worth watching the movie. As I mentioned in the summary line, over all it was a very good movie and I would recommend others to watch it, however, I must admit I was very frustrated half way through the movie.

Granted, I am very into suspense/mystery type movies and I tend to figure out 95% of movies I watch in the first 15-20 minutes. One of my absolute favorite movies is "The Usual Suspects" and although there were a lot of things I missed (the first time I watched it) I was still able to figure out the "surprise" ending to that movie 3/4 into it. So I am not shocked I stumbled across the real truth. What was shocking was Jude Law's character. He was rather clever in the movie, yet couldn't figure out the real truth until very late into the movie. I mean if he was able to detect that there was a lie he would have also been able to easily figure out the motivation and all involved. It caused a catch 22 for me and made it harder for me to believe his character.

As for the rest of the movie, I think it was well directed and acted. The story line was believable and the way things unfolded were as expected.

Very good movie... reviews are spot on for once
12 September 2013
It is about damn time, an underdog low budget movie is straight up done good. The storyline, good, the acting (for the most part) good, no over the top ridiculousness, very believable. Everybody's gripes about how the rating is to low is exactly right. This is a very good movie and can easily make my top 50. Not a lot of Hollywood, which makes this movie even better. Two thumbs way up. The worst part of the movie, is they tend to talk a little low so I had to turn on the subtitles and you have to pay attention to the names and who is who, because it jumps around a little in time. Other than that, it is a solid movie and deserves to have it's rating brought up to at least a 7. I would probably put it at 7.25.
