Unfrosted (2024)
WTF was Seinfeld thinking?
Biggest question is; WHO is this made for? Too corporate-satire for kids, too idiotic for adults.
I'm pretty sure that the script could have worked and turned out to be a decent hah-funny film in the hands of a capable director. Full of funny concepts and references, but the style is so corny that it is making me want to punch my TV. The score and set pieces are horrible.
No one else could have brought so many iconic comedians together to dumb-smile through this "satire" that I'm fully blaming Seinfeld and Netflix for the lack of judgement. Every over-acted reaction to a non-funny joke makes you wonder why anyone agreed to be part of it.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
Showrunners should be fired
If it wasn't called True detective, I wouldn't have started the serie at all. If it wasn't called that, I would have ended my effort 3 bad episodes ago. And by God, now after this "climax", it's finally safe to say that this show didn't deserved to be called True detective. Or excist for that matter.
Eeeeeverything was below average. It was directed, shot, written (!!!), art directed and acted with fake, melodramatic frown. A mystery show without the intellect to reveal anything worth the watch. A season of a detective show, known for it's insight and input in human psyche and philosophy, with nothing much to say.
I felt sad for the actors who had to deliver some of the lines. It constantly uses cell phones and short dialogue of "Yeah?" "You've got a see this" to make the characters change the scene. It somehow manages to make this tiny town feel like no one knows each other. They must've had at least a very-ok budget, but couldn't live up to the horror-hype they'd built. While wasting money on an unnecessary Beatles-song. The use of already-cliché indie accapellas of popular songs as a haunting soundtrack also sucked.
In my opinion the callbacks to season 1 were in poor taste. Just fan-girl moments with nothing real to add to the serie.
Whoever was twisting the knob to find a trendy story and make a quick buck using the True detective franchise, really should be let go. Someone listened to the pitch, agreed that this was a good idea, saw the dailies and was ok to complete, still call it a True detective show and market it as such. That person was greedy and should be let go.
Verdens verste menneske (2021)
Simply life, with an awesome soundtrack
No big adventure. No major lessons learnt.
Just life, acted out to killer soundtrack.
The worst person in the world follows a 20-something girl grow up to be a woman, how her perspective changes and how she sees other people. There are relationship hassle as well as the feeling of being stuck in one plase. The usual stuff.
The film captures feelings sometimes through music, sometimes in fantasy episodes, but it always feels ultra-realistic and relatable. Direction and acting are both on point.
The screenplay masterfully picks moments and feelings just enough dramatic to set the main character to a new direction. Not to fall into cliches in a coming-of-age drama and making familiar events feel fresh takes tremendous skill. I have to admit, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this intimate Norwegian quality work.
I enjoy my life a bit more after seeing this movie.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Intense satire. A modern classic.
First of all, the bad rating here is caused by fidgetting teens. Very solid thriller in question.
Leave the world behind is an extremely well rhytmed mystery-satire. Something's going on and a divided group of people are tossed in the mix.
Seasoned favorites Julia Robberts, Ethan Hawk, and Mahershala Ali are joined with fresh talent and the whole gang delivers.
Stellar acting, but the hat tips mostly to direction, cinematography and sound design. When the dialogue scenes are interrupted by action; hold on to your seats, because the crew fires on all cylinders.
Fairly long runtime is rewarded with hell of a ride and a big message without shoving it down the throats.
Blonde (2022)
Tortured in style
I don't know the real-life events of Monroe enough to base the review on it's documentary-value.
Cinematicly Blonde lands somewhere with Aranofsky's The Wrestler, Black swan or Pi. The "biopic" is overly saturated, dark and closer to horror than birth-rise-fall-death story-telling.
It also feel's a bit like Scorcese's Aviator while using methods of psychology and expressionism to depict trauma and the twisting of reality. It's beautifully shot and Dominik doesn't shy away from turning the movie into a mess following Norma Jeans's mental health.
This truly is a dark ride and at times the tone feels SO set to black that it's hard to watch. That said, it made me feel. No one's life is simply dark moment's but as a narration of a traumatized person with parental issues seeking for approval, it succeeds.
The American (2010)
Boring and soul-less
The american feels like it was cut together from B-roll material of better hitman's redemption dramas. Everything used here was selected with a frown.
Clooney's sleep walking through a mediocre assassin-thriller with nothing interesting to say. The story is predictable, the romance forced and the action didn't even try. This is a US/European co-production and it shows. There was a budget to hire a star, but not enough to make him do anything worth to mention a day after seeing the film.
A minor upside are the sceneries of Italy and Finland, yet they also never feel majestetic or worth the 1h 44min sit-through.
Secret Invasion (2023)
Underwhealming
The most boring Marvel-show yet. The slow build-up led to predictable climax with a horrible CGI-fight between characters no one was interested in.
You'd think there atleast would be a segway to start something new in the MCU. However, the show brings absolutely nothing for future use. Skrulls already were there, Fury's methods questionable and in the end everything goes right back to where it started.
Secret invasion comic was an ensamble event with serious stakes. The show wastes the source material entirely and simply wants to tell a more intimate Nick Fury story, that should have been named something different.
Samuel L Jackson and Don Cheadle carry the whole show, but seem bored. Emilia Clarke is introduced to MCU, but based on the show, should not be used in the future. Direction and cinematography are both on autopilot. Even the climatic scenes lack any emotion. The laziness starts from the poor AI-generated and continues throughout.
This show leaves zero impact and makes no sense to excist.
Häiriötekijä (2015)
Hilariously weird
Episode movie for all the friends of obscure. 50% gringing pain, 50% laugh out loud -fun.
Salmenperä's direction is masterful and the cast shines.
