City in Darkness (1939)
Charlie Chan Plays Straight Man to a Fool
I won't waste time on this review, as I already wasted too much time watching this, the most atrocious Chan movie I've ever had the misfortune to see. The plot wasn't bad, and could have supported a decent movie. The one huge flaw in this Chan outing was Harold Huber's exceedingly annoying character, who, when he uttered the line, "What am I to do?", my very first thought was, "Find the nearest oven, light it, and put your head in it." Yes, it was that bad.
Paranormal (2020)
BORING
For the life of me, I can't understand how people think this deserves such high ratings. I really wanted to like it, as I generally prefer foreign series over American ones; however, this was so dull that we kept checking to see how much longer the first episode had left before it was over. Watching it is far more horrific than anything that occurs in it.
Hammer House of Horror: The House That Bled to Death (1980)
A pity that the Hammer name is associated with this dreadfully dull series
This was the fifth episode of Hammer House Of Horrors that we watched, and it was the last. All five episodes have been sorely lacking in horror, or even mild scares. The writing in this episode was so scattered, and it left us shaking our heads in dismay. After having read reviews of how good it was, I found it extremely sad to see the Hammer name associated with something as worthless as this. I'm not going to waste any more time on this, as I already wasted far too much time on this dreadfully dull series.
The Blacklist: The Kazanjian Brothers (No. 156/157) (2020)
Why? They destroyed what was a pivotal episode.
Simply put, the animation in this looks like it was done by a sixth grader as part of his first test project. Why couldn't they have just shelved the footage they, finished the season with the previous episode, and started Season 8 off with this episode, but properly completed. Now to my Lizzie rant: aside from the fact that I would joyously put a bullet between her eyes if I could, Megan Boone's voice acting from home was horrendous. The only saving grace for this episode, as it was aired, were the few minutes of the real Raymond. I really can't put into words just how disgusted I am with this abomination.
Dracula (2020)
The most faithful adaptation to the book, while adding new material and twists, this actually improves upon the book.
We just finished watching the third and final part of the latest 'Dracula' adaptation. I don't understand the low rating, but it's quite likely that most viewers never read the book. After having seen just about every 'Dracula' film out there, and having read the book, I can safely say that this is my favourite adaptation. It is the most faithful to elements in the book that every other adaptation has glossed over, most notably his crossing to England on the 'Demeter', which is quite possibly the most horrifying section of the book. While this mini-series followed much of the book, it also added a good deal of new, but very fitting material, and this actually improved upon the book, which is a very rare feat, indeed. Part One was fairly good; Part Two, which was dedicated to the 'Demeter' incident was excellent, and possibly the best episode; Part Three was also excellent, and this was where the majority of new twists were included, and if not tied with Part Two, it is very close to it. Outstanding!
Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt (2019)
Season 3: I won't mind if it's the last
We just finished watching Season 3 of Stranger Things. While it did improve, it is my least favourite season of the series. A number of people have said that they found it to be darker than the previous seasons; however, I didn't find it to be darker, but I did find it very uneven, and too light in many scenes. Episodes 2 and 3, in particular, made me wonder if I was watching 'Saved by the Bell', or some other show about teenage anger. All the bickering, and everything else that went along with it to provide supposed comedic relief, I found to be exceedingly annoying, so much so that I tired of some characters and really didn't care if they survived. I can't say I'll be upset if there's no fourth season, which is a very different feeling than I had after we completed watching Season 2.
The Avengers: Dead Man's Treasure (1967)
Possibly the very worst Mrs. Peel episode.
In one sentence, I felt like I was watching an episode of something as inane as 'Batman'. The story was uninteresting and predictable, the blonde sidekick was utterly annoying, and the music was awful; what's more, Steed and Mrs. Peel we're also bumbling, inept, and annoying in this episode. I hope the five remaining Mrs. Peel episodes aren't anywhere near as bad as this. Oh, the cars were good, but that was it.
Annihilation (2018)
Yes, it really is illogical...
It's all been said before, so I won't go into details. Simply put, don't waste your time unless you want to watch it for the pretty colours and neat geometric designs.
