Splatter (2009)
Netflix's Original Content Guinea Pig
In 2009, Netflix pitches the idea of an original interactive web series to Roger Coreman and Joe Dante. It was an early experiment in video streaming instead of Netflix shipping tons of DVDs back and forth.
The original intent was to have viewers vote on which character would die in the next 10-15 minute episode.
Netflix only kept three episodes and put them together in a 29 minute short that isn't worth anyone's time.
Feldman plays a washed up rockstar who kills himself in order to bait his frienemies to his mansion so he can come back as a ghost demon and murder them.
Nothing about this film was original and the production value (even for 2009 low budget horror) is the only thing horrifying about this film.
Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
Hobo With a Shotgun = Action Movie Eye Candy
Grindhouse is back! To enjoy the movie, you have to go in with the attitude and the mood for a balls to the wall merciless action movie. I can only dream that this movie was made in the 70's because it would be a cult classic today. One of my favorite things about this movie are the cheesy little lines that I'll be quoting for weeks on end and there are actually times where you kind of forget that this is a film festival movie. Don't see this with your girlfriend or your mom. This is a movie you stoners can get high too, the perfect movie to treat your brother to his first rated R movie, or a movie night with friends and way too much junk food. This movie will be around for a while.
Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
Alien believers and movie buffs come together! (may have a spoiler)
Saw this last night and absolutely loved it! The best way to put it is like "Black Hawk Down" mixed in with "Independence Day".
2011 is a year for Alien movies, we seriously have a ton of alien related movies coming out but so far this one is the one to beat. I am a huge alien believer and a huge movie buff and this movie was clearly made for the two in mind. The movie allows you to watch a group of marines throughout the invasion of Los Angeles.
What I liked about it: *this is where the spoiler may be*
I loved how similar the aliens were to the marines as far as tactics go. The aliens had a chain of command just like the marines and they followed it strictly. The aliens had their weapons surgically attached to their bodies.....thats something that most alien movies haven't even suggested. The only mission for the aliens was to kill, and as audience member, the message is clear.
I also loved that there was something happening throughout the movie. The marines would temporarily escape from the aliens but when the aliens came back, they hit harder and harder.
The actors were awesome, this is probably my favorite Aaron Eckhart movie so far.
And finally, I really think tat a sequel is possible. It wasn't just LA that was invaded, its just where this story took place. And the title says "Battle: Los Angeles", the sequel may say "Battle: West Palm Beach" or something.
You can also check out unidentifiedenemy.com to get a little more background on the aliens and their technology. Its a pretty cool website.
