Cry for Happy (1961)
Sentimental
I don't think this was made to be a history commentary. Sometimes a film is made to help people heal from the horrors of past traumas. Glen Ford had an amazing gift that few people realized. He had the ability to make you fall in love, to really make you cry, to be furious,
to laugh your heart out and to make us look at ourselves. Another of these films but in my estimation a 10, is Tea House Of The August Moon. One no one should miss. This little film here may be fluf, but compared to today's trash, this gets my vote every time. For families, guys who want a good clean! laugh, and just any bunch of
people, it is safe, you could have a good time.
clean !augh and for
laugh,
Ithaca (2015)
Boy is a telegram delivery during WWII
First, this was a terribly directed and cast remake of "A Human Comedy" which did not need a remake unless it was going to be impeccable. Too many things wrong, lots and lots. This was wrong from the outset, the Telegraph office was incorrect as there were not any metal door/ window framing on buildings of that nature in the 1940's. And it just goes down hill from there. Sad about the direction. Too bad about the casting. It was a little like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard. I could not finish this movie. So save your money and time.
The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box (2013)
A Magical tale of a family who have gone underground, children seeking truth to find the answers!
This was one of the best children/family films I have had the pleasure to view for a very long time. Intelligent, witty, clever, unpredictable, white hat, black hat. Cinema topography excelled. Dialogue excelled. Plot excelled. I just needs a sequel. It takes place in a lush background, not to be deprived of beauty in the visual department in the whole film. Costumes are tops.1800's I believe. Magic and trickery abound. The children are seeking the Midas box .-- and they are lured into a dreadful situation They do have a mentor and they are sharp witted. This is truly worth watching and I plan to purchase. How I wish it was going to have the sequel!
One Not to be missed for family viewing!.
Justice League: War (2014)
Sad representation of the original
Nothing for which the original stood;values, integrity, loyalty, justice, truth, lacking in real plot and story/character building opportunities. Instead they chose to jump from pointless, meaningless 'action' and opportunities for cursing, which was never done in the originals and not appropriate for young children. Shallow, meaningless, trivial waste of time and money. Consequently, I would not recommend this for children nor for teens.I usually like these as a senior and watch with my grandchildren and children, but this one will not be rented again nor purchased. The graphics were good enough and the colors were crisp and the actors were quite adequate, but I believe they had a hard time with the believe-ability and that makes it difficult for them to come across. On the whole it was a disappointment and a diluted misrepresentation of the real thing.
Ephraim's Rescue (2013)
A true account of LDS history rescue's of the Willie and Martin Handcart companies and the blessings and hardships they encountered.
Though some would call this a 'sentimental, cheese' movie and on the spiritual radar, I am inclined to rethink and give this another look. There is some pretty good acting, directing, excellent filming and producing. The story is tight and the message is more than worthwhile. We need more of these. True and uplifting. Some beautiful scenery, photography. Nothing about Mormon's that would 'offend' anybody. If you want to see lots of blood and gore and lots of graphic violence or lots of action or science fiction, or graphic sex, you won't get it here. This is for the folks who want something uplifting, hopeful and a place to find comfort, hope and faith in things that matter most. HOWEVER, some of the shots do involve the hardships that are not for the faint of heart!
