Música (2024)
So good but unsatisfying ending
This was really good for a romantic comedy. The settings and design are as beautiful as the actors. The main characters and relationships are all likeable so it draws you in and you care about them. The supporting actors were chosen well for their comedic skills and the writing and directing for these roles really added to the enjoyment of the story.
This isn't a musical as we thought before starting the movie and music isn't important overall to this rom-com. But the music and beats contributed to the mood and themes of this beautiful movie.
The interracial relationship challenges between a Brazilian family and an American is easily transferable to all interracial couples and their families. Anyone who has experienced a relationship with a different cultures will recall similar situations and laugh aloud at themselves.
Only the ending was unsatisfying since it was not a typical rom-com ending but it was still a good ending and we were left yelling at the screen for more.
3 Body Problem (2024)
Chinese Soap Opera
This wasn't so much a sci fi movie as it was an emotional drama. I understand that the typical hero is more interesting if they are the reluctant hero that overcomes their fears but all these characters are just flogging themselves over their own moral judgement. There is some science behind the alien 3 body problem but it's actually a small part of the series that focuses mainly on the women being desperately sad while drinking with drugs. As far as I can tell, this is very much a Chinese epic of one middle earth kingdom against another kingdom with many characters coming directly from Chinese soap operas. Men: determined, angry, defensive. Women: self loathing, self pity, cries.
Dinner Time Live with David Chang (2024)
*Updated review* Good but a suggestion for the show
*Updated*
I'm updating my review because I think I was unfair to a new show that was finding its groove and I believe this show has found it. David Chang is really interesting to watch and listen to and I love that he explains why he does something with the food but he's not actually teaching how to cook.
The format of the show is similar to a podcast as compared to traditional talk shows that give you between 7 to 12 minutes with guests that are only there doing a quick shallow promotion of their recent work. But the guests on this show stay for the entire show so they have actual conversations. This is how a evening with good friends is like.

(Previous review)
I enjoyed the episodes with Steven Yuen/Rashida Jones, Fortune Feimster/Terry Crews, Iliza Schlesinger/Paul Scheer. It's like a talk show with guests and they're having a good conversation, sharing thoughts, opinions, and experiences.
However, I really did not enjoy the episodes with Nick Kroll/john Mulaney and the most recent one with Seth Rogen/Ike Barinholtz. It's like watching a bunch of guys in high school cracking jokes and making innuendos, snide remarks, and just being obnoxious. I'm a guy and I get it..but these episodes were not interesting or entertaining watching them guffaw, snort, chuckle, with outbursts of shouting over each other. The food in the episode with Seth/Ike was actually disgusting and not creative. David Chang just scooped gobs of caviar on everything, including pizza, like he was too stoned to cook.
Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto (2023)
Campy fun movie!
People, it's supposed to be a campy movie. It's exaggerated, over the top, absurd, ridiculous, tongue in cheek, and cheesy. Its entertainment value is the same as "The Babysitter" series on Netflix or if you can find it, "Tucker and Dale VS Evil". Few people will understand this genre but it's the cringe that makes it entertaining for those who are fans.
I appreciate the way they used zombies as a comparison to life in an office. Bullies, liars, and sycophants are a toxic soul sucking disease infecting people. I think they did a great job of showing what starting as a graduate in a first job is like and how middle management begin making empty promises to get them to become mindless, lifeless corporate drones. So many people will experience Dejavu and even a feeling of "vomiting in their own mouths" when they watch that scene. It brought flashbacks to jobs in my early career and I wanted to scream obscenities at the screen.
I enjoy the other kind of zombie stories like the dark human drama and the hopelessness of the Walking Dead but it has a time and place for them. This was fun, light, and great to cringe together with friends.
American Born Chinese (2023)
Totally connected
This was so relatable and the awkward moments were worth watching. I cringed and knew every teenager was able to feel the pending disaster. I watched with the same feeling of "I can't watch this" with my hand over my eyes that made every John Hughes movie so great. It truly had moments from so many of my favourite coming of age movies but with action and special effects. I like that the parents are also dealing with some of the issues of self doubt and confusing cultural limitations that Jim is feeling. Confidence isn't conquered through popularity. It was always about self doubt and everyone is working on that their entire lives.
