Cocaine Bear (2023)

Great, Camp Fun!
25 February 2023
OMG! This was SOOooooo much fun!

It's a crazy, silly, camp, gruesome, fun cinematic ride!

Standout performances from Margot Mardindale & Jesse Tyler-Ferguson who are soooo good! This is loosely based on the true story of a 1985 Drug Drop that went wrong & ended up with a bear going crazy on cocaine! Drugs are bad for you kids! 😜 The whole 80s setting is excellent, and Keri Russell is great as the Mum trying to hold it all together.

Full of silly, wonderful, crazy characters and scenes, and Ray Liotta in his final roll.

Totally recommend if you want to switch your brain off and have an evening of fun and laughter, with a splash of laughable gore!

Long, boring, but an exciting last hour.
17 December 2022
Ok, so this is going to be a huge movie, and people will have it as their best ever movie lists, and LOVE it!

I wasn't that excited after having seen the trailer, but off we went.

I ended up dozing through a good chunk of the movie!

I just don't care about Na'vi kids, families, nature and any of that stuff. Throw in some cliched characters and gung ho action movie americanisms and I'm even more bored.

The visuals are of course super stunning.

Once they finally get to the water, the visuals are next level.

There are lovely messages about nature, The brutality of humanity and colonialism, family, friendship etc, but I really didn't care.

The last hour actually was really exciting and action packed, so I left on a more positive note than the first two hours!

My partner LOVED it. He was blown away by the visuals and nature, so that's all good.

I know I will be a minority who wasn't that impressed, so don't let me put you off. I just wish they could have edited it into a tight 2 hour experience, instead of the never ending 3+hours that it was for me.

Don't Worry Darling (I) (2022)

Super stylish, intriguing and absorbing movie!
2 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
From the opening frames of Olivia Wilde's second directorial effort I was entranced by the visually stunning, picture perfect world of 1950s Utopia she had created.

In a lush, unblemished world of domestic bliss, traditional values, and never ending sunshine, the inhabitants of Victory, certainly seem to be living the American Dream.

But are they really?!?

The cracks soon start to appear, and I sat there intrigued, wondering what was really going on, yet totally mesmerized by the super stylish world they inhabited.

When Florence Pugh's Alice, starts to question her idyllic existence and what work the men are really doing on the mysterious 'Victory Project', things start to unravel. What's really going on? Is perfection really just an unattainable mirage?

For me the movie built to an exciting and interesting crescendo, but for others they find the movie as flawed as the world that Victory inhabits.

Totally recommend from my viewpoint!

Should have been a hit!
23 July 2022
This is a fun, amusing, quirky quintessential 80s Comedy! Madonna is excellent and funny as Nikki Finn, a blonde bombshell, wisecracking ex con out to clear her name. Madonna totally inhabits the screwball character of Miss Fin with lots of sass, attitude and amusing lines. Great 80s Edwin fun!

Elvis (2022)

Spectacular!
27 June 2022
From the moment the glitzy, bold opening credits begin, you know you are in for a bold visual and musical cinematic experience.

This is a lush, almost fairytale like presentation of the Elvis Story.

Colonel Parker, Elvis's Manager, is a pivotal story teller in this story of music, fame, fortune and a far too early demise. Arguably Parker's voice is almost too strong a presence in the movie. At times it hinders us from getting a more in-depth understanding of The King's inner turmoils and struggles, and doesn't allow us to fully know the greatest selling music artist of all time. This is a small quibble however, and maybe a darker grittier story is for someone else to tell, and a different movie entirely.

What Baz has instead created ,is a dazzling, captivating, visually stunning and enthralling musical movie journey, that captures the magic of one of Music's greatest ever entertainers. The cool mix of hip reinterpretations of Elvis songs and Austin Butlers magnetic performances help make the movie the magical experience it is. It's also intriguing and illuminating to see how threatened Conservative America was by this free spirited performer who wasn't afraid to push boundaries and colour barriers.

From the wonder of a young boy captived by the music of a Black Religious Revival meeting, to the charismatic sexually charged young performer, who became the King of Rock & Roll, this is a movie that knows how to entertain and enthrall.

At 2hours 40mins it's never drags and maintains your excitement and enjoyment throughout.

We learn enough about the real person to appreciate and empathize with Elvis, but ultimately this is about entertaining us and taking us on a colourful musical adventure.

There is a four hour cut lurking in Baz's vaults and I hope it one day makes the light of day, with full cuts of the musical numbers. We left wanting more!

Austin is incredible, and mesmerizing as Elvis and deserves much credit for how truly fantastic this movie is. Triumph and tragedy, villain and hero, this is a must see, and I can't wait to rewatch it already!

Great Movie!
10 November 2021
Really enjoyed this true story of a slave who escaped her enslavement and became a true hero who helped rescue many more slaves.

Cynthia Eviro is fantastic as Harriet Tubman, and was nominated for many awards for her portrayal of this legendary woman.

It's absorbing, and comes to an emotional climax, which shows the strength and character of this incredible person.

The theme song at the end of the movie was powerful and topped off a great movie, and brought a tear to my eye.

Totally recommend!

Just Ok.

This was a good storyline, but I just kinda found it pretty slow going and not that absorbing.

Great cast and a good idea with a great almost haunting twist at the end. Ultimately I was a bit bored throughout however.

Summary: Just Ok.

This is a powerful, absorbing, fantastic movie.

The story of a wrongly convicted man on death row and a young attorney trying to have his conviction quashed.

The story is true, and shows yet more injustice in the American legal system.

Great acting, incredible story.

Too many reviewers think they can critique acting, direction etc these days, bringing the rating of a brilliant movie down with their negative false expertise in movie making.

This is a must see.

Totally absorbing and thought provoking.

Beautiful!

Wonderful movie.

This is stunningly shot, the visual are beautiful.

The dual storyline worked well, and the modern plot line held up well, and was a nice juxtaposition to the lives of Wallis and Edward.

Beautifully told, absorbing, interesting, entertaining and well directed.

Absolutely loved it.

Highly recommend for anyone interested in the Duke and Duchess, or just with a love of well made, visually stunning movies.

Sadly gave up 1/2 way through.
16 October 2021
I saw the trailer and thought it looked beautiful.

The visuals were great.

Adam Driver was fantastic.

It had a lovely gentle, sweet tone, and the relationship between Paterson and his partner was sweet and endearing. She was so lovely and adoring to him, and he seemed content in his small world.

It was just that after an hour I was bored, it felt like it was going nowhere and I kinda gave up.

Maybe if I'd persisted, I'd have been rewarded at the end, but my interest was gone.

I like art house movies but this one sadly wasn't for me, though there were some nice aspects to it.

Good, stylish super hero movie.

I finally got around to watching this .

It was a pretty good super hero movie, but for me, not as amazing as some have felt.

The visuals were fantastic and costumes incredible.

I loved to the powerful black storyline and strong female characters.

Pretty good story and themes.

Definitely worth a watch.

A good movie!
4 September 2021
Wow, everyone is so hyper critical these days.

This is a good movie. Yeah maybe it's not great, and won't be in your lifetime top 10, but it's entertaining, the lead actor is very likable, and for me, any story of America's shameful civil rights past is worth telling.

It's a good story, and true.

Yes it probably could have been done better and more gritty, but personally I enjoyed this and had a tear in my eyes seeing the real person at the end, with some footnotes.

If you like the trailer, you'll enjoy the movie.

Definitely recommend!

Must have been cool in 1971
3 September 2021
The visuals are a very cool 70s high tech.

The premise is excellent.

The opening scenes are intriguing and chilling.

This must have been shocking and original in 1971.

Assembling the team is exciting, and I loved the visuals of the assembled 1970s dinner party, when one of the team is extracted.

Unfortunately once they arrive at the research facility, it starts to drag.

It's all very cool, and a fun to look at what must have been a high tech, edgy thriller in it's time.

I just kinda got a bit bored and ended up just thinking it was an ok movie.

Glad I watched it though.

Totally Absorbing!
29 August 2021
Wow! That was intense, bleak, intriguing, dark, gritty and a great watch!

Not everyone's cup of tea... but I really enjoyed it. I guess some people want more action and less reality? This was fantastic acting, script and direction!

Inspired by Australian gangland crimes of the '80s and '90s, especially the Pettingill family: a Melbourne-based crime family headed by matriarch Kath Pettingill.

Jackie Weaver got an Oscar Nomination for it. I watched the events unfold and wondered where this dark tale was taking me. Totally Absorbing. Excellent Movie!

Intriguing original recommended watch!
24 July 2021
OMG.... Love, love, Loved it!!!!

It's polarizing when I look at reviews... so maybe you won't love it?... But.... I thought it was intriguing, atmospheric, exciting, absorbing and even touching.

Loved the cinematography and interesting camera work.

Like most M Night Shamyalan movie there are flaws, but the intrigue and originality totally outweighed that for me. What's really going on?!?... maybe all will be revealed, maybe it won't... but for me I was captivated and happy to go for the ride and see where my journey took me.

Totally recommend for those fans of Mr Shamyalan's work and anyone after an intriguing original adventure in cinema.

Fabulous, stylish, atmospheric fun movie!
29 May 2021
OMG that was soooooo Good!

It simply oozes style from every frame!

A deliciously wicked retelling, with an incredibly eclectic wonderful soundtrack that helps to elevate an already fabulous movie to the next level.

Emma Thompson is divinely evil and Emma Stone is a fabulously stylish nemesis with a commanding presence in every scene.

The clothes are to die for and the story is lots of fun!

Original, clever and totally recommend!

Awesome sequel!
2 January 2021
Love, Love Loved it! 👍 Lots of fun! So many bad reviews out there for this. Yes it's a little campy in places, but so what, nothing wrong with a bit of camp in my world! Good easy to follow story that hangs together well. The 80s period is fab and fun. It has a strong moral compass that personally I enjoyed, but maybe others can't cope with a superhero movie with depth and substance. Yes that moral tone gets pretty thickly laid on toward the end, but once again personally it's message of being careful what you wish for and life consequence emotionally resonated with me, and brought a tear to my eye. Maybe some people just want dumbed down non stop action and fight scenes. That being said, there is still plenty of fun and action and the 2 1/2 hours flew by. Loved Wonder Woman's new power that emerged on the latter part of the movie! Don't leave till you see the fabulous twist in the closing credits! Definitely recommend and ignore the haters and people who seem to think they can write and direct something better.

Lush, enthralling reimagining
8 May 2020
Love, Love, LOVED Hollywood!!!! Was hooked from the opening scene. It's so beautifully shot! Gorgeous costumes, fantastic cast and absolutely captivating! Those who have reviewed this wonderful series negatively, are jaded and over thinking it. So many love to sit on their own imagined superiority these days and micro analyze everything to find fault. This was an ultimately uplifting reimagining of 'what if'.... This isn't a gritty and deep analysis of the injustices and inequalities of the times, and that's ok. This is a beautiful, fantastical, fun, mix of fact and fantasy that still has depth, but is primarily about entertaining. This is Hollywood after all folks! The whole cast is fabulous, but Patti Lupone, Dylan McDermott and Taylor Holland are standouts! Totally recommend to anyone with an imagination, a love of The Golden Age, a love of stunning visuals and a sense of fun and wonderment. Best thing I've seen in ages!
