Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021)
Another amazing instalment to the franchise! But which version is canon!!?
Okay, I'm just going to wade though the haters again because this is an awesome movie full of impressive/creative ideas and scenes. Plus the franchise is just full of potential and could run and run with an array of amazing sequels if handled correctly.
Firstly I think I should warn you that there are two versions of this movie. The VOD release or extended cut has a completely different beginning and end to the theatrical release. Along with a different storyline and a few different characters while some other characters from the theatrical release were cut out completely. I only realised this after noticing a name in the credits and checking wiki afterwards. Now I find this as interesting as I do confusing.
I can kind of see why this bizarre decision was made. The theatrical version ended with another Saw like cliffhanger with familiar characters meaning that the next creative team are going to have to crowbar that ending and characters into the next film. Where as the ending and storyline of the VOD release gives the franchise the choice to start fresh next time around or for the studio to stop making these excellent movies altogether.
Personally the VOD release seems to give the franchise more possibilities to grow and had a much more satisfying storyline and ending, but at the same time I also love the surviving characters from the previous films and I would be more than interested and excited to see another sequel of either of these two versions. I just hope that if this does happen (and I really hope it does) that the creators and producers can take the time to agree on the direction of the next instalment.
In a perfect world I would prefer if the movie was longer and a new scene was added between the original film and new ending so it would feel less rushed and heavy handed. But with all that said and the strange situation that we are now in it doesn't change that the vast majority of Escape Room - Tournament of Champions was exceptional.
From the moment they entered the first room until the very last puzzle this movie was utterly captivating. I loved every moment and the new rooms and puzzles were simply brilliant. The new characters are great and even in the short time that I got to know them I grew to like them and care about their fates. I especially found Rachel and Nate characters really interesting and they both had some great personality traits and abilities that made the experience even more enjoyable.
I really hope that this isn't the end because Escape Room is easily the best horror/thriller franchise to appear on our screens in the last few decades. It's rare to see films in this genre that are so inventive and ingenious. The possibilities are endless and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
By the power of trolls, old goats and sexists!!
If I have to hear one more person whine about woke culture I'm going to lose all faith in humanity. How is the entertainment industry finally trying to be more inclusive a bad thing? Also I can't really see what's causing your little tantrums. Yes, Teela takes the lead for a few episodes (alongside a lot of other great characters) but we are only five episodes into the start of this reboot. Isn't it a bit too early to start throwing your toys out the pram? There is clearly a lot more in store and if your whiny little comments don't get another great show cancelled we might actually get to find out. So if your on IMDb trying to make your mind up about watching Masters of the Universe please ignore the negative comments and give this awesome show a chance. The animation, writing and voice talent are all first class. I really hope I get to see what happens next.
Calls (2021)
Captivating & Impressive
I can't get over how good this is! On one side it's so simple because it is just dialogue but the excellent writing and outstanding voice talent elevate it to something else entirely. Each conversation takes hold and pulls you in with impressive mastery. The wavelength and frequency graphics are a nice touch too and add to the whole captivating experience. Please give this a shot for yourself (Especially if you're into the sci-fi/horror genre) and ignore the negative reviews. Yes, it is just audio but it's more than that too.
Red Oaks (2014)
I'm so glad I found this!!
Every moment of this excellent series makes me grin from ear to ear. All the characters are perfect and the writing is an awesome mixture of sweetness and hilarity. I discovered this purely by chance in the IMDb recommendations and I'm so glad I did. I can't help that feel that Red Oaks deserves more recognition and praise then it has already received. For me this is up there as one of the greats in the sitcom genre. If your on here looking for a new series to get into than I couldn't recommend Red Oaks enough!
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
One of the Best Modern Slasher Films Around.
I'm really not getting the hate on here. Any true horror fan should love this film. Decent slasher movies seem incredibly rare nowadays but this one knocks it right out of the park! Awesome soundtrack, lighting and set pieces along with truly suspenseful moments with characters you actually care about. I'm really glad I gave this a shot. Especially because I really didn't like the original The Strangers, but the fact that Johannes Roberts was directing made me give it a chance. Any director that dedicate their career to primary making and perfecting slasher movies and creature features will always get my vote. This is easily his best work yet in my opinion and I can't wait to see what he does next!
Over the Garden Wall (2014)
Absolutely Amazing! It's a rock fact!
This is an insanely cool show. The animation and characters are perfect. I couldn't recommend this enough. If you have an hour to kill and your in the mood for something original, twisted and funny AF then give this a shot!
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
An Epic & Complex Masterpiece.
Please don't listen to the negative reviewers. These reviewers must either work for Microsoft or they just want the same cookie-cutter experience over and over again. I can't help but find them ungrateful and narrow minded. This was well worth the wait. They do take the franchise in a new and challenging direction but the story is utterly breathtaking. It is easily one of the best video games ever created. The developers have outdone themselves again and continue to raise the bar. I can't really write anymore because the last thing that I would want to do is spoil this amazing experience for anyone. I really can't recommend this game enough. Stop reading, clear your schedule for the week and start playing. You are in for a treat!
The OA (2016)
WTF
Good job Netflix. You cancel great and original shows like The OA, Daredevil and American Vandal but spend time and money on dumpster fires like V Wars, October Faction and The I-Land. What are you going to do for your next trick? Gather up the cast and crew of Stranger Things and launch them into the sun?
Avenue 5 (2020)
I guess some people just want the same shows over and over again.
Haters are just going hate. Please ignore the bad reviews and give this show a shot. It's brilliant and keeps getting better with every episode. It is offbeat and different and obviously some people find that confusing, but it is also a ridiculously well made show with a great cast. The writing is sharp and witty and each and every character is fantastic. For example the Head of Customer Relations played by the excellent Zach Woods is a nihilist! Everything his character utters is comedy gold. I've never seen a show like this before and I'm hoping for many more seasons. We just lost Silicon Valley and Veep last year and this is the perfect replacement. It might be best if the negative reviewers stick to shows like Family Guy and The Big Bang Theory.
Stranger Things (2016)
Hands down the greatest show ever!
Just finished season three and it just keeps getting better! I couldn't of asked for or expected more. The story, characters, setting, soundtrack, cinematography, and writing are all first class. Every character is likeable and interesting in their own way. Best of all it feels like an 80's Horror/Sci-Fi/Action movie and all of it's nods to it's classic predecessors are incredibly enjoyable. We can finally stop saying "They don't make them like they used to". I can't wait to see what the Duffer Brothers do next. Their love for the genre is clear and their execution is outstanding.
Euphoria (2019)
7.6???
A beautiful and thought-provoking show. I don't understand all the negativity and judgement in the other reviews. It shines a light on real issues and deals with them honestly. Granted it is graphic but that's realism for you. It also managed to be incredibly funny at times and insightful while dealing with some pretty messed up stuff. Plus the acting, writing, music, camera work, etc are all on point.
