Californication (2007–2014)
9/10
similarity to HBO's "dream on"
27 August 2007
I watched the first episode, and enjoyed it.

Am i the only one who's noticed the similarity of this show to HBO's "Dream On," from the '70's or '80's (I forget which). It's all there: the sexually ravenous protagonist who's broken-hearted over his divorce; the ready availability of gorgeous female partners for him; the protagonist's desire to get his wife and child back; the wife's relationship with another man, which gets in the way of the protagonist's desire for reconnecting with his ex-wife.

It's all there, right down to their occupations: Martin Tupper from "Dream On" was a book editor, David Duchovny's character is a writer.

Privilege (1967)
10/10
One if the most thought-provoking, disturbing movies I've ever seen.

Privilege (1967) One if the most thought-provoking, disturbing movies I've ever seen., 18 July 2007

I remember how impressed my friends and I were when we first saw "Privilege" on PBS.

We still talk about it.

Reviewer gein's comment reminded me that, like Steve Shorter, the Rolling Stones were asked to help the British necktie industry by wearing ties on-, and, probably, off-, stage.

At least, that's what I remember reading once.

I, too regret that this film is not available on DVD or shown on TV. Like "Darling" and the recent "Stoned," it's a great look into the darker side of "swinging London."

Fall (1997)
one of my favorite movies, heart-breakingly romantic
2 June 2003
this is one of my favorite films (in fact, i stayed up late last night to watch it), and it always rips my guts out, especially when the last music kicks in.

in response to Sam's comment that Sarah, the model, is raped, i would submit that she is seduced/romanced (in the parlance of the film, encouraged to "fall" for him).
