Teen Titans Go! (2013)
I wasn't expecting much, but this show is off to a terrible start.
I knew going into this it wasn't going to be anywhere near as good as the original Teen Titans TV series. But it's a direct follow-up to it and character motivations, back stories, etc. have been scrapped in favor of weak jokes.
Some will compare this to the Looney Toons show. I don't blame them for the comparison as that show is extremely polarizing, but I'd like to add that The Looney Toons Show does a few things right from time to time and does have more hits than misses in my opinion.
Teen Titans Go! is the exact opposite. On it's debut episode it made me laugh all of one time (the joke where Beast Boy gives Cyborg his drawing for a Birthday Present in the middle of an argument and a pie fight). The show is corny as all get out and it was almost physically painful to watch Raven be a fan of a My Little Pony clone (get it?? Because she's all dark and broody, she shouldn't be playing with those!!)
Some might call me pessimistic and judging the show prematurely based on one episode. Maybe I'm just a loser who can't get over the fact that it's not like the show it's following up to and I can't handle change.
My rebuttals are as follows, I've read the Teen Titans comics (Which are very different from the show) and I didn't mind the changes they made for the 2003 series.
I'm judging it harshly from the first episode because that is the episode they decided was good enough to be the debut episode to the series, the introduction and the episode that's supposed to pull you in and make you want to see the next one. I can tell there's not going to be any established continuity from episode to episode so if this is the episode they want everyone to see first...it's doomed to fail.
They took Young Justice off the air for this garbage people, if you have never seen Young Justice you are doing yourself a complete disservice by not watching it. Do me a favor and watch that series, then come back to Beastboy and Cyborg singing a song about Pie and tell me why it's a good idea that this show is on the air now instead.
In summation, I'd recommend skipping this show and signing every petition you can to bring Young Justice back on the air as well as giving Teen Titans a proper follow up.
Minotaur (2006)
This is actually one of the better SciFi original movies.
I've got a bit of history with the SciFi original movies, I used to watch them all the time whenever there was absolutely nothing on TV, and nine times out of ten that was the case. But I saw previews for this movie and said to myself "that looks interesting, I think I'll watch it." I think the SciFi channel(now re-titled SyFy and they're constantly ridiculed for it)has a lot of problems with their original movies. Whenever they have to create an original idea, well you get stuff like Dark Relic, Riverworld, Ice Spiders etc.
But then there are movies like The Wraiths of Roanoke, which is pretty damn good if you ask me, Abominable, which I regard as one of the best Bigfoot movies ever even if the Monster looks goofy. Minotaur if you ask me is one of the HIGHLY superior original movies. It does move a little too fast in the beginning and it's not really all that intriguing but when you have Tony Todd play a villain things always get more interesting.
The characters in this movie are all likable to some extent, well okay maybe not the screamer girl but to her credit she does have a Lesbian scene for what it's worth. The story in this movie is a retelling of Thesius but done in the way a Monster movie is. That's kinda genius, sure I can talk all day about how the Minotaur from Greek Mythology doesn't look a thing like the one in the movie, in fact the movie Minotaur is more like a big ass bull with a skull face than anything, and he's supposed to be half man/half bull. But I can forgive that because the special effects the use for him are surprisingly top notch.
I don't know why it has such a low score on IMDb, I'm guessing it's more critics whining about what they think it should be or something, when you get to the bare bones of this movie(if you watch it that joke is actually kinda funny) is this. It's a monster movie version of Thesius, you really can't do any better than what we have here.
Deadliest Warrior: Persian Immortal vs. Celt (2010)
By far Deadliest Warrior's worst episode
Deadliest Warrior is known for having flawed logic and avoiding the scientific method, but this episode is a prime example of DW doing so. For some acid induced reason they don't specify which Celt exactly was featured, The Gaul's were mentioned so I'm guessing that was who they were talking about, however the weapons they chose were almost purposely inferior. The longsword while a great weapon, is logically inferior to the Claymore which the Celts had. The Celts chose the Sling as their primary long ranged weapon? You serious?? The Celts had archers as well. May I also note how the Chariot Scythe, a weapon they proved on the show could not cause a death but cause a laceration, obtained more kills than the Burda Club which was deemed a superior weapon? Mind you the tests were completely different but I'm going by their logic. Apparently their defense was the Persian bow kept the Celt at bay before he used it, okay fine, however that doesn't explain how the Scythe obtained ANY kills. Someone explain to me how this episode was looked at and nobody said "you know what? we probably should re-do a lot of this." Persian Immortals vs Celtic Army in an open field, Immortal's win hands down. But 1 vs 1. Doubting the Immortal would win the majority if they bothered testing the weapons properly.
