The Terror (2018)
Season 1 is a masterpiece.
Only reviewing season 1 here.
I don't know how it managed to elude me for more than two years, but I'm glad it did. I needed something good to watch. The Terror is a masterpiece and will make you binge watch it. I watched the entire season in two days.
I don't want to spoil it for you. Just watch it.
While watching it I found myself contemplating the meaninglessness in so many of man's adventures. How many men have died uselessly in the name of discovery or science. Or war, for that matter. But this story is told in such a manner that - if you make it to the end - will be worth the terror. You will feel stronger as a result.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Seasons 1&2 were better - then something changed.
A change in the set style, a different director of photography. Something definitely changed after season 2 and the show has not been the same since. It's still good - with season 5 being a step up from 3&4 which seemed slow and dark to me. Now, with the pandemic, the question is: how will it affect the sixth an final season - other than the delay. I expect it to arrive in 2022. Thirteen episodes for the final season. There are many questions that should be answered. It's getting very complex. How do you tie up all of these loose ends without making it too convoluted? Time will tell. I'm pretty sure it won't be a "happy ending" though. And that's part of the problem here - we're moving from comedy and beautiful photography to more and more violence, tragedy, and more complex plots and dialogue.
Filmworker (2017)
When you have the opportunity to work with a master, you take it.
These days there's so much cinema history on from creators on YouTube, it's rare to see something like this, an untold story. A good documentary and interesting story. Something from another era, a different mindset, a different way to do things.
The Island (2005)
Could have been better.
This movie had potential, but it was largely wasted. It's crammed full of special effects, and the main characters survive too many impossible situations. Also, it's about 15-30 minutes too long. This movie has a story, but it's overshadowed by grandiosity. Makes me wonder what kind of megalomaniacs makes these films.
