Super Size Me (2004)
If only more movies actually had a point to them, like this one!
18 October 2004
It's hard to know where to begin to describe this movie. I had seen the advertisements in the paper, and thought that it may be worth renting but not paying full price at the theatre. After all, everywhere you look, someone is trying to cash in on some reality show on television, and now it had seemed to have made its way to the big screen, with a no-name director/actor. Grab a camera, film some useless behavior, and sell it to the media. That is what this movie is all about...NOT!!!! I laughed, I processed a lot of info in that 100 minutes. I had a burning in my throat trying to digest his experiment on the effects of leaving food out for a few months to ripen...yuk. I was shocked to say the least, to learn that the size of a supersized-soda was a half of a gallon. I suppose that if the supersized meals on the screen were faked..I would have heard about it by now. I myself, have not set foot inside a McDonalds since around 1984, and was ignorant on what they now serve. When the first day of his goal of 30 had begun, the director/actor/writer, Morgan Spurlock, a New Yorker, was healthy, fit, and HOT! By the 21st day...he still looked hot..like he was about to have a coronary or stroke. No longer chipper and full of sarcastic humour, he now resembled himself 5 or 10 years down the road, gasping for breathe as he climbed the stairs to his apartment. After his experiment, Spurlock admitted that it did take him 8 months to get back to his former self and no doubt his girlfriend,Alex, played a big part in it. All good movies must have a heroine, and this one is no different. Spurlock may possess the imagination to have written this film, but his girlfriend, no doubt is blessed with the brains behind the man. She hadn't been half as surprised as the doctors were over Spurlock's failing health at just 21 days. She had cringed at the entire idea of his journey into careless glutonism and carnivores..after all, she is a vegan chef. How ironic that she can for see the future when the majority of the population of the U.S. cannot. The only irritating part of this movie is that I can't get the stupid theme song out of my head, and I find myself singing it throughout the day. Supersize, supersize, supersize me...don't waste your money on renting it..buy it and learn something. I can't wait for his next project. He is talented, sarcastic, able to grab your attention, and oh yeah...he is HOT!

CSI: Miami (2002–2012)
It was a great show, without Speed maybe a good show.
16 September 2004
David Caruso plays Lieutenant Horatio 'H' Caine, the Head CSI Agent who always has the backs of his CSI's. Caruso never breaks character, but his seriousness can grate on your nerves. Would it kill him to just loosen up once in a while? There seems to be a strong parallel between Caine and Gil Grissom, the character William Petersen portrays in the original CSI. Neither of these characters seem to be capable of possessing a sense of humour, so perhaps it a character trait which makes them successful in their job. Khandi Alexander from News Radio (and it took me quite a while to figure out where I had seen her before) possesses the role of Chief Medical Examiner Alexx Woods. Bordering on creepy..she is definitely an actress capable of taking on any role thrown at her and succeeding. Who would have thought a self-centered egotistical bitc* could totally be convincing as an empathic, sensitive, and good-hearted medical examiner working with corpses all day. If only all M.E.'s were like her. Emily Procter and Adam Rodriguez fill the roles of Calleigh Duquesne and Eric Delko and actually contribute emotion to the show. Leave it to these characters to show their feelings on occasion. If ever there is a time to choose between what they are told to do, and what they feel in their hearts, they will either choose the latter, or at least toss it around. Finally there is Rory Cochrane who played Timothy "Speed" Speedle (2002-2004). I will be extremely sad to see him go. Very sad. But the big screen is calling. Neither Speedle nor Cochrane seem to be known for their bright and cheerful dispositions or personable qualities. Cochrane has made it his niche to portray dark, solemn and moody characters, and Speed seems to have most of these anti-social traits. Yet he is lovable and you want to have a deep conversation to get into his head. Few actors are able to get away with this..but if you look like Cochrane, you can pull it off. Quite honestly, he is the only reason I ever started to watch this show. I was still mad at Caruso for pulling out of NYPD Blue, but you get past that. Jonathathan Togo will be joining the cast, who will attempt to fill the void that Cochrane will leave. I have no idea who he is. I wish him luck. Will he succeed? It's hard to tell. I won't be rushing home to my Monday night CSI this season. Without Cochrane, it just won't be the same. If Caruso would leave, the show would totally fall apart. But at this point, he seems to know better.

A Trip back to uncomplicated times....
25 August 2004
Call me a nostagic sap..but I really enjoyed this flick. While David Spade is not among the list of all time greatest actors..he can succeed in making you laugh at pure silliness. The movie had a plot which had a lesson in being proud of who you are and too stand up for yourself. Though the language may not be for young children, I wouldn't have a problem letting children over 8 watch it. Undoubtedly the best part of the film was the ending..with a slew of actors from the past including the Brady kids, Eddie Munster, Danny Partridge, the crew from 'What's happening', just to name a few. There were literally about 100 actors who we have known from shows in the 60s, 70's, and 80's. Even Ernie was there. Unfortunately, for the younger generation, it was lost on them. For some older folks, Leif Garrett was to us, what "Eminem" is to twenty-year olds. If only David Soul was included in the plot. Soul, according to Dickie in the beginning of the film..was his father, but it was only wishful thinking. I do have one issue which I would like to mention...if you enjoy seeing all your favorite actors from past decades..get the DVD. I purchased the tape, and would really enjoy seeing the extras. I hope we get to see more of Leif and the others again real soon.

Starsky and Hutch (1975–1979)
One of the top 3 TV shows.
25 July 2004
Along with "All in the Family" and "Seinfeld", "Starsky & Hutch" was among the best shows ever on the air. From 1975-1979 I had only missed the last episode because it had been moved from 9 to 10 pm, one hour past my curfew. I did however throw a tantrum and in the morning was given my first lesson on repairing drywall. Unfortunately in my anger, I had thrown the Gran Torino model I had made through the wall. Now 29 years later, I find myself forgetting phone numbers and names...but for some strange reason, I never forgot the S&H plate number, 537-ONN...SCARY. I was so happy to hear about the movie, but when I found out that they were replaced by Wilson and Stiller, I was sick. That is moronic. However, nothing was as moronic as the film. I read that Glaser & Soul had a 5 minute cameo...but I suppose for those who liked the movie and thought it was funny, they may be too young to tell time. The cameo didn't last more than a minute and it was all unlaughable comedy. The original TV show was a mixture with actors who actually have talent and chemistry. Stick to the original and don't waste a dime on renting the movie. Get the DVD collection. I have it and it is amazing. There is also a Starsky and Hutch game for 9.99-19.99. It is so much fun, and it has the original huggy's voice for the narrator, Antonio Fargas. I hope that one day before long, I will turn on the TV and David Soul will get his wish, Starsky & Hutch will once again ride the TV airwaves for a final tribute.
