Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi (1988)
This movie got me started to watch other movies of A.B and to restart on the movies of the 80's
Well what can i say about this movie? Despite the negativity on all the other reviews, i am going to be different and say i throughly enjoyed this movie, to much of an extent that it has earned a spot in my 'favourite list'. My first viewing of this movie was 6 years ago and i enjoyed it. This got me by surprise, as it was of Amitabh, the elderly man who danced around in 'Say Shaba Shaba'from KKKG! I had never seen a movie of him in his younger days, but boy am i glad i did and i think it earned my respect towards him and made me realise why everyone is crazy over him! I fell in love with the story, songs and characters, but none more so of 'Jamuna', (played by Meenakshi Seshadri), as her every scene entertained me! She has the looks, comedic skills and the voice! This movie re-led me to watch other movies of the 80's and to seek out movies of Meenakshi and Jaya Prada, who are now my favourite actresses of the 80s, and also of A.B's. I also loved the pairings of Meenakshi/A.B and Jaya/A.B, and always try to find movies of these two pairs. I loved the story as it showed a brief introduction of 'Ganga' 'Jamuna' and 'Saraswati' and how they all connect with one another by the events of the movie. The story was entertaining as it had romance, comedy (the mouse & tub scene haha), action and heartfelt songs. This movie became an instant hit within me and i loved Jamuna and Saraswati! What i still can't believe is that this movie was a super flop! Never the less, i still love it, so much that i even watched it yesterday night, and still have not got bored of it.
Remember readers, never judge a movie through the words of a critic, as you have to watch it for yourself and decide whether you like it or not. Luckily i found this gem of a movie through the persistence of my mum to watch it, and have never regretted since, as it re-introduced me to the 80s style of movies, the drop dead stunning beauties Meenakshi Seshadri and Jaya Prada, Amitabh and of course, this brilliant movie! Watch this movie and let yourself decide on your view of it!
Kya Kehna (2000)
Kya Kehna belongs to Preity Zinta
This movie never seems to bore me! It has it all; whether it's character depth, great story, lovely songs or amazing scenery, this movie adds everything! The movie belongs to Preity Zinta, which is actually her first film but was released after 'Dil Se' and 'Soldier' for some apparent reason.
Preity Zinta stars as Priya Bakshi who has just finished school and ready to return to her Bakshi family, who all await her arrival, but none more so than her lovable dad Gulshan Bakshi(Anupam Kher). As she returns the family is overwhelmed, considering she is the favourite to whole family, and the love of Ajay (Chandrachur Singh), her childhood friend who harbors a secret crush for her. Priya who is new to her college is spotted by playboy Rahul (Saif Ali Khan)and both fall in love with each other.
Despite warnings from her brother and family to stay away from the flirt Rahul, she still continues to meet him and ends up committing an act that will bring her family to shame. Wedding Rahul nor giving up her unborn child does not seem to be an option for Priya, which sets challenges upon the path she walks. Kicked out of her house by her parents and no where else to go, what are the alternatives for this young girl? Will she face humiliation? Will Rahul accept her? Will she be able to keep her baby? Watch Kya Kehna to find the answers!
A truly Lovely story which will emote the audience to sympathise with Priya and follow her throughout her bubbly, innocent journey. If you do not enjoy this movie, i can not seem to think what movies you will like.
Lovely performances by Preity Zinta as bubbly Priya, Saif Ali Khan as playboy Rahul, Anupam Kher as the kind hearted dad Gulshan Bakshi and Farida Jalal as the lovely mother Rohini Bakshi. My only complaint of this movie is something minor as i think the character of 'Ajay' should have been played by a more well known actor.
This movie goes to show that Preity Zinta was a star right from her first movie, and proves undoubtedly to be her film as she stars as the hero and heroine of the movie! 10 stars
