Great casting. Some of the episodes were very good with unpredictable story lines. A couple of the stories were cheesy. Opening theme song & closing song were lame.

Take your kids
25 August 2019
Some reviewers criticized the film's pacing, I was fine with it. It's clear from the beginning the family is non-tradiotional, living in partially renovated, unkempt colossal house in a high end Seattle among well kept homes. Snobbery abounds. The viewer wonders about the past and it is revealed little by little in various ways. Bernadette & her daughter are unusually close, the parents less so. The ultimate strength of their bonds is what drives the last 1/3. I did snort-laugh a few times, for the record. A good film for families ( kids over 12 or so) to watch which may lead to discussions. Cate B's performance is excellent!

Stereotypes galore
5 August 2019
Expected more due to actors abilities & previous work. The relationship issues between the mothers & sons have been played out in many, many other films and TV shows. The women characters are not very likable and they drink too much. I don't find hangovers amusing. The women's friendships are nicely portrayed. Watch this one if you have nothing else to do.

Keep the Change (I) (2017)

realistic
25 July 2019
Set in contemporary NYC, a love story anyone can relate to. Much of the scenes take place at the social skills group where Sarah & David meet. Main characters and secondary ones are presented realistically as folks with challenges and joys, trying to their way in the world. Characters have rough moments & sweet & funny ones too. The symptoms of autism are secondary, the work of being in relationships with others is well told.

not worth the time

Warning: Spoilers
This film is full of stereotypes, moments to make one cry laugh and it's oh so predictable. It seems there was a list to be checked off-rich parents defend bully son, the cool teacher, science fair mishaps, best friends make up. Ick, ick, ick.

This is not a great family movie as others have written. "Let's get drunk", the mom says to her husband about celebrating something. There is praise for physical fighting & being a "man". The interior scenes of the homes of the characters look like something out of House Beautiful-even the kid with the scholarship has a kitchen to envy. . The young actors give great performances, but I am guessing the star power of J. Roberts & O. Wilson certainly helped to get the silly script to film. Best part- Soundtrack.

Disjointed (2017–2018)

Disappointing comedy
30 December 2017
I watched episode 1 hoping that Kathy Bates was part of a wining ensemble. I will not watch more of Disjointed. As others have pointed out, the addition of prerecorded laughter is annoying. There were some clever moments such as "ads" for the dispensary. The characters are stereotypical and silly. I squirmed in discomfort listening to the "token Asian" chat on phone to her parents. There were some tired jokes that were repeated.

for lovers of film as art

Warning: Spoilers
The trailer gives away too much. Not a feel-good movie. The film shows the lack of power women had at that time & how one woman acted to take control of her life. She brings down others. Beautifully shot, excellent performances. I was hoping the Rex-like cat was going to have a pivotal scene. The sense of place & time is well conveyed. But casual movie goers are unlikely to rave about this one.

2017 viewpoint
1 September 2017
Writing this review about 15 years post release, but this is first time I have seen the film. Penalize one star for its length. Performance of Daniel Day-Lewis is wonderful. Some great performances from supporting/character actors as well.

There have been liberties taken with chronology of some events depicted in the film. It is interesting film to watch in 2017 because the discontent & divisions among races, religions, immigrants and natives have parallels today.

The music theme by U-2-uninspiring.The set was very well done.

Gangs of New York is worth spending the screen time.

Am already a fan & season 5 did not disappoint. More backstory on some inmate alone with unpredictable drama. Usually watch 1 episode individually. Had to pace myself in order not to binge. Excellent performances. Standouts- Uzo Aduba & Danielle Brooks.Looking forward to S6. Good choice of songs during closing credits.

The Lovers (I) (2017)

Walked out of theater

Warning: Spoilers
Who are these people, what has gone wrong with their marriage? Why are they lying to each other & their lovers? Why are they uncomfortable with their adult child? I cared so little I left. The wife has an affair with an attractive younger man. Her boring unattractive husband's lover is a ballet teacher. I could tell where the film was going, but both characters were so unsympathetic I did not care.

Older 50 adults having sex--so what? I cannot recommend this film on any grounds.

waste of time & money
16 May 2017
Read the other reviews if interested in plot. The persons involved in creating this film may have had great motivation. The time & talents of Swank & Bletheyn are wasted. The dialogue is lame :"Is you husband cute? I think so." Who says stuff like that? The relationships seem false. The scenes with medical personnel are laughable. The scenery is interesting. I could not watch the entire film- it was aggravating.
