The Homesman (2014)
7/10
Slow paced? maybe,.. but worth your time.
2 October 2014
This cast speaks for itself, but a great cast doesn't guarantee a great film, we know this. For me, the pace of the film was just right due to the nature of the plot and the distance they had to travel and the transport they had. The film needed to be slow paced to give the viewer an idea of the enormity of what laid ahead of them. Swank and Jones were chalk and cheese which is not an uncommon trait with the protagonists, as this adds to the character building and the relationship you, as the viewer, has when watching their relationship develop and blossom. Some scenes may of been a little vulgar or unnecessary, but it all added to the realism of living in that particular time and again, added to the feel of the film which was at times, dark and moody, but also had aspects of endearment, passion and showing the good in humankind. The twist you have two thirds of the way through the film was excellent and left you wondering why?? Although their were small snippets of the film i didn't care for and didn't think were necessary, it was 2 hours of my life well spent and compelled me enough to write a review, so it must of worth it!!

Black Death (2010)
7/10
short but gory!!
6 August 2010
I had high hopes for this film and it nearly disappointed. Sean Bean is a legend in my eyes, what with 'Lord of the Rings', taking on much the same roll and exactly the same costume, 'Black Death' gave the viewer a slightly different version of "The Wicker man". A galiant troop of warriors fight their way through a medieval world only to be outdone by a lonely, Christian like village with weird morals and strange beliefs. There is something about the supposedly but apparently powerful band of men, being overrun by the minions that makes the viewer want to watch with interest and intensity. A dark film from Smith, great cinimetography at times, well worth a watch.

What the future holds??
19 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
OK..this movie has been done before..or has it?? Many people have said to me that film's like "Doomsday" {terrible film}, "The Road" and the Mad Max trilogy offer the same content and meaning as "The Book Of Eli", this simply isn't true. 'The Book Of Eli" offers the viewer an insight into a possible outcome of nuclear war. Denzel is once again believable in his role as a blind/partially sighted man who is on a quest across America to deliver a book to the people who can make a difference towards the future of mankind. Guided by faith or what you may call it, the featured character displays the strength and willingness to succeed in his quest, stopping at nothing to fulfil the mission he has been supposedly asked to do by the greater good. Although i was very impressed with th twist at the end, i have watched the file over again a few times, firstly because i loved the film, and secondly because i was trying to seek out the finer details of Denzels eyesight. On reflection, there are many points of the film where Denzel looks and acts like someone who has good vision. For example, the scene where he wakes up after his first sleep of the film, looks out the window, you can see his eyes are perfectly formed with no hint of green/grey implying any kind of blindness. I just think that his blindness or even partially sightedness is a little far fetched. With that said, i love this film and would give it an 8/10, and that is being a little critical. A lot better that all of the "Post Apocolyptical" films i've seen, this film offers action, tension,Romance {in small quantities}, a great soundtrack by Atticus Ross, but most of a glorious cinematographic experience..a must watch.
