Nope (2022)
Underwhelming
A strong premise that doesn't really deliver. Some interesting visuals. Keke Palmer gives one of the most annoying performances ever put on film. This movie could have been much better without her or at least less of her. The movie is not real big on subtlety and her scenes are certainly no exception. Particularly her introductory scene which sets her up as pretty insufferable. Good performances from Daniel Kaluuya and the supporting cast. Michael Wincott and Keith David are under utilized. The "creature" design is not great and the plot resolution leaves quite a bit to be desired. This was much better and more interesting than "Us" although I don't know if that's saying much.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Sometimes less is more
I'm seeing mostly glowing reviews and I think I may have seen a different movie. This was a loud, annoying, confused movie. It couldn't get out of it's own way. Somehow dark and cutesy at the same time. Adam Warlock was unnecessary to the story and poorly written. Many of the main characters are at death's door on many occasions with no consequences. Multiple fight scenes involving every character so you can't tell what's happening. Drax and Mantis' banter is mostly just obnoxious. They're like kids you just want to smack the whole time. Nebula just yells at everybody for 2 and a half hours. The High Evelutionary is way too over the top to the point where he's mostly just distracting. There were audible groans in the theater when Kraglin sees Yondu during the big battle.
There were positives, too. The flashbacks of Rocket were well done and moving. The FX were mostly great. Some of the songs were great songs and fit well in the movie. Some of the banter was funny. There was just way too much.
The Pentaverate (2022)
Mike Myers' love letter...to himself
Not totally unwatchable but not really worth watching. Mike Myers plays multiple characters for no reason and none of them are particularly funny or interesting. Some other talented people involved who don't do anything you care about or laugh at.. When you have to repeat or explain the jokes it means they're not funny. This could've been a 90 minute movie and spared everyone a lot of time and effort.
The Old Guard (2020)
A decent idea and nothing else.
Poorly written, poorly cast, poorly acted. The soundtrack was like a screwdriver to the ear. Some decent fights. A dull plot and a story that went nowhere.
