The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Now what?
I just saw TROTK of the LOTR trilogy and am feeling completely blown away by it. The movie went beyond my expectations, it was that good.
I won't place any spoilers here, but I can tell you that I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion during the movie. Now I just have to wait for the movie on DVD (extended version of course;))
If you loved the previous two movies and/or love Tolkien's masterpiece, you just HAVE to go and watch it!
Ringu (1998)
Creepy as can be.
This movies shows again that the greatest horror lies in what you DON'T see. The story is very well played out, and a must to watch if you like suspense.
Some of the reviewers mentioned that this movies lacks quite a few details that were put in the american remake. However, you should keep in the back of your mind that this (original) japanese version consists of THREE movies so I'd say those arguments are not in place in those reviews. The remake got its material from the entire japanese trilogy.
If you can stand subtitles and want something else than moronproof US movies where every single thing needs to be explained, this version is highly recommended:)
Event Horizon (1997)
It is not at all bad
Ever since it was released I steered clear from this one, since the reviews weren't that good. However, today I watched it for the first time, since I bought it cheap on DVD, so it wouldn't harm.
I was highly surprised to witness a good horror story in space, which wasn't at all bad! The gothic style of the ship, the hallucinations of the rescuecrew, it all added to the suspense.
I don't recommend this movie to anyone who hates explicit violence, but anyone else who can appreciate horror, just view this one.
It isn't a memorable movie which should very high ratings, but just a fun one. And that doesn't harm anyone from time to time:)
Wayne's World (1992)
Excellent movie
I saw this movie in 1993 and recently I watched it again for the nth time and it still is great to watch. You have to be in the mood for this one, because it contains quite an amount of silly humor, but it´s done quite well and the performance of Dana Carvey is outstanding. He really has his thumbs down on his character Garth:) Just sit back, don´t expect a well thoughtout plot and have fun!
The Last Emperor (1987)
I love this movie
I saw this movie at the cinema when I was 17 years old. I was completely overwhelmed by the movie (I already had a fascination for China) that I decided to visit china in 1992 just to see the forbidden palace (and the rest of China of course).
The music in the movie is brilliant, the cinematography outstanding, the story very moving (the end of the movie broke my heart).
Don´t expect an action-packed or high paced movie and be ready to sit through 3+ hours. If you´re all that, it might be worth a look for you as well:)
Armageddon (1998)
What a total waste of time
I have seen my fair share of crap movies, but this one takes the cake. It totally ignores physic rules (shuttles flying as if they´re stuntplanes?!?! Hopping around on an asteroid which could never create such gravity??!?!) And on top of that, they´re sending untrained oildrillers as astronauts, sjah?! Top that all off with a total flat and boring storyline, lame jokes, even worse sidestories and a lousy bunch of actors. Avoid this movie before it hits you!
