Day of the Dead (2008)
bad, but not horrible
As another reviewer said, not a remake but more of a re-imagining. It's not really a bad movie, but it falls short as a really good zombie movie. The make-up and special are good at times, but some times it's really bad.
One thing that bothered me was when some turned into a zombie, it was seemed like they were dead for weeks in a span of a few moments.
It's almost like they took the idea of the recent Dawn of the Dead remake, with the way the zombies move, and expanded on it.
If you look at it as just a zombie movie instead of a "remake" it's actually a pretty good movie.
Hack! (2007)
I don't even know what to say
It seems like the writer is a big fan of horror movies with the countless references to many horror classics. I don't think that the actors are the problem of this film, but more so the dialogue. Some of the actors are actually really good, but not in this film, a lot of the dialogue just makes them sound stupid. The writing is really horrible in this. There is no investment in the characters, you don't really care about any of them.
It seems to me that this film is trying to be a homage to horror films, but instead looks like film saying "Hey, look at me, I like horror films." This isn't just a bad horror movie, it's a bad attempt at a horror movie.
The Running Man (1987)
Not for fans of the book
I think I may have watched this when I was a child, but apparently it made no impression on me. I recently read the book, so I decided to watch the movie, hoping it was just as good.
I was wrong.
As a stand alone film, I imagine it's great, but with what the book put into my head it was really hard to not turn it off after the first 20 minutes. The story is almost completely different aside from the character names (Richards and Killian) and the fact that it's a futuristic television show. Everything else was pretty much made up by De Souza.
Not one of Schwarzenegger's best films, but somewhat entertaining, even through his dry performance. The highlight was Richard Dawson (of Family Feud fame). He played Killian perfectly.
I felt the story lacked what the book had. I didn't really care if Richards (Schwarzenegger) lived or died. Any of the characters really. I would say watch to movie, so you can say you've seen it. But read the book none-the-less.
Lady in the Water (2006)
Wait What?
The only movie that M. Night Shyamalan has made, that I liked was Unbreakable. Before Lady in the Water that, I think, was his peak in the movie business. With this movie, I think he has done his best. The writing, acting, overall emotion in this movie are top notch. A lot of the random shots he places kind of threw me out of the movie, but it was easy to get back into it. The highlight of the film is Giamatti, his emotion made me care about his character along with Story (Bryce Dallas Howard).
Shyamalan has gotten so much better at writing with this film. Before I watched this I would rather watch a worm farm than see one of his films, but this movie has changed my mind about him entirely. 8/10.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Could have been better
I had no plans of seeing this film, but I wanted to see what the hype was all about. For me the first ten minutes of the movie seemed like twice that. I found this movie to be very boring. Not because of it mostly being dialogue, it was the lack of dialogue.
It was written well and was played great by the actors It seems to me that Ang Lee was just trying to show off with most of the landscape shots. For me they seemed to throw off the story and bring me out of the movie. I haven't seen any of Ang Lee's previous films but after this I'm not sure if I want to.
I guess what really ruined it for me was the unnecessary landscape shots, I think the audience realizes that they are on a mountain from both the title and the fact they mention it in the film.
I thought it was a great idea for a film, I just don't think that they pulled it off, but that's just me.
The Shadow Men (1997)
what the?
Well, This isn't that bad, not as bad as some make it out to be. If you are into UFOs and alien abduction. Some parts are pretty cheesey, but all in all it's not that bad of film. Once you start watching you kind of got to keep watching to see what happens.
I'm not much into Eric Roberts movies, but he was actually pretty good in this. If you an actually lover of films then you might like this one. give it a chance.
Now, to say that It's unrealistic, you got to remember it is just a movie. I highly doubt that this was based on a real life encounter. just go into with an open mind.
Chicks with Sticks (2001)
They want money?
I watched this not 10 minutes ago. First off, the story line is really thin. I know it's a short, but six minutes is long enough to put at least a good story line in there.
This film was made to raise money for a feature film of the same story. For the short I imagine that they didn't have much money to work with, but most independent filmmakers could make a great short film with less than $300. It didn't seem like they were too concerned with the story and just wanted to make "cool" fight scenes and from looking at the website, I believe that even more.
Even for an independent film it was edited badly. More than a few shots didn't match. If I was a producer and I watched this I wouldn't want to put money in the feature. If this is what I have to look forward to then I might as well throw my money into the gutter. I would not recommend this to anyone. Just my 2 cents.
Parasaito Ivu (1997)
I miss films like this
completely not want i expected, I played the first video game, so i was expecting what was in the game. To my surprise it blew the game out of the water. I'm not much of a fan of subtitled films, but I couldn't stop watching. It had nice special effects and they didn't go overboard like many of the films out nowadays, plus it has a great storyline, also unlike many films nowadays. I recommend buying this film. Don't rent it, don't borrow it, find it and buy it. trust me you'll love it.
Longshot (2001)
YAY!
Another 90 minute commerical to boost sales for pop albums. the worst thing about it was the absence of a story line, and some of the stars ability to act. Basically, it's just another excuse to put a bunch of music stars in one movie. IMO i'd say that Da Hip Hop Witch had a way better plot. the highlights of the movie are Danielle Fishel and Paul Sorvino (the reason continued to watch). it also was kind of funny to see Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) get beat up by a 16 yr old. Just watch and see for yourself to see how bad you think it is.
Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
Adam Sandler in a drama?????
When I first heard about this film I thought to myself "Adam Sandler acting in a serious movie? can't be done." I also said this about Jim Carrey for Man On the Moon. What I about MOTM is that I found that to be a great movie and a smart choice for Jim Carrey. But, Punch Drunk Love and Adam Sandler can't hold a candle to MOTM. Which suprised me because Paul Thomas Anderson is a great Director/Writer. Boogie Nights and Magnolia were great films. PDL was not. 20 min into the film I was bored and confused. The story was lame, but I will admit it did have some good points. The Direction was average.
**possible spoilers** The piano and the crash at the begining stuck with me through out the film. Who was it in the car, who left the piano, and why didn't Barry (Sandler) see if the person(s) in the car were alright. Why didn't he call the police or an ambulence. I can imagine that he might have been in shock from seeing that, but still should have at least called some one.
Over all I was very disappointed in the film. I kinda wish I could get my money back.
