Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2009)
Overall a decent movie for the kids
I brought my little cousins to watch this movie recently. I was actually quite surprised with it. I was not expecting much from it, but it did entertain me as an adult, which is a bonus when bringing children to a movie that is directed at them. There was definitely a lot of adult humor within the movie as well, that probably was well above the head of children. I also found it funny that they continually made the young adult that was playing video games all day look like a loser, as it demonstrates to children that while it may be fun to play video games here and there, making it your full time job really leaves you with little of a life. I think they chose very good upbeat songs to play, which was a bonus. Also, as an aside to anyone that has watched the hangover and laughed at the end when they show pictures of what happened to them in Vegas, I felt this movie kind of spoofed that movie, as it played the same song at the end and had pictures of them doing funny things. Anyways, to summarize, while I probably would have waited myself to see this on television or on rental if I was very desperate to choose a movie, it surprised me, and is a great children's movie.
Shutter Island (2010)
Thrilling, but predictable
I came into this movie expecting a horror type movie based on some of the commercials on television and the previews, but I was very mistaken. This movie was very much a psychological thriller. Leonardo DeCaprio fans will absolutely love this movie, as he is excellent in it. Mark Ruffolo is also very good in the movie, but by far, Ben Kingsley steals the show, I believe with his portrayal of a doctor for the insane. While I was at the edge of my seat for most of the movie, I did find that the end of the movie was very predictable. Many reviewers have stated that it was shocking, but for some reason I found it almost to easy to predict. Perhaps, it is due to viewing so many Martin Scorcese films in the past and preparing myself ahead of time for the unpredictable. I highly recommend the movie, I would have probably given it a perfect score if I was not so disappointed with the ending.
Remember Me (2010)
Surprisingly intriguing
I went to go watch this movie with my wife expecting a romantic movie, but I found this movie to be more of a thinking movie. I will be honest with you, I am usually pretty good at predicting movies, but I was totally off on this on and was shocked at the end. I thought Pattinson was really great in it, though I did find his roommate to be quite annoying. I thought the girl from lost that plays Claire, whose name escapes me was very believable as well. Her father in the show was also quite good, but this was expected of him. I had never seen the young girl that plays the sister before. I found her to be quite creepy in her role, but again very believable I would definitely recommend this movie to be people looking for some intrigue. Some girls looking for a total romance may not totally get what they ask for as there are some gruesome parts. Overall, very good.
