Air Force One (1997)
Great Fun, but not worthy of repeat...
14 April 2003
Gary Oldman is delectably wicked as a Russian terrorist who hijacks Air Force One with the US President (Harrison Ford) and his family aboard. Having vowed never to negotiate with terrorists, the president has to use all his skills as a former soldier to devise a cunning plan to save the day. Great Fun, (But does not stand up to Repeated Viewing)

Not bad for an 80s flick
12 April 2003
Not bad for a time travel movie. Good cast with an interesting plot involving time travel into the mist of the Second World War. I think you really need to take into mind that this film was made in 1980, so some of the special effects do look very dated. Although the twist in the end could have been played on/explored a little bit more, it is overall, an enjoyable movie for a Sunday afternoon

Only for Tupac fans I'm afraid
3 April 2003
A horribly dated movie. Made in 1992, the clothes, hair and music all cry early 1990s. Contains a very simplistic plot about a murder during a robbery, this is no classic. The only stand out scene is the school locker confrontation between Omar Epps and Tupac Shakur (Shakur showed he could act). Overall, rather bafflingly over-rated by IMDB reviewers and for die hard Tupac Shakur fans only.

Up there..among the Treeessss..

Two Words: SUPERB FILM. The best Sci-Fi/Action Adventure film ever made. I love this film. It has all the ingredients of a gem of a film. Superb Score. Jungle. A 'Beautiful' enemy/alien. Great cast (My Favourite: Dutch and Billy). What more can a man ask for? So, grab some popcorn and drinks, close the door and window, put the volume high and enjoy.

Good viewing, but not excellent as it could have been
30 March 2003
The first half hour of Jeepers Creepers is excellent. Tense and very good pacing. Makes you wish Hollywood good produce more like this. However, after this period, the movie falls flat and decides to enter the realms of the X-Files. What a shame. But it is an okay film overall and one certainly worth viewing.

Over-rated Crap. Ignore It. Rubbish.
30 March 2003
Dont be fooled by positive reviews of this Crap movie. I looked up reviews of this, was impressed and purchased a copy expecting to be frightened and intrigued. I got neither. I cannot believe this film actually spooked viewers. I mean, Pumpkinhead kills his victims in the exact same way every time. Hand reaches down from the tree, hand grabs the head...snore...

It is unbelievable boring. I wanted to fall asleep while watching it, while my brother and his friends left the room to play the PS2. Its just totally Over-rated. I have never been impressed with Lance Henriksen and this film does nothing to change my view. CRAP.

Ravenous (1999)

You Wont Feel You Lost Time Watching This.
28 March 2003
Good film to add to the cannibal/vampire collection, if you like that sort of stuff. Robert Carlyle is excellent in his role, as is our hero, Guy Pearce. The soundtrack is exceptional. Very different from what you would expect from such movies, but fits in superbly with the film. Ravenous is positively an improvement on some of the appalling 70s/80s cannibal films that fill the shelves of Video Stores. Hope it gets the cult/mainstream following it deserves.

Don't watch this Alone? Don't make me laugh!!!
21 March 2003
The poster cover of the Last Broadcast claims 'Don't see it Alone'.

This is a joke. This is not a horror film. It's not scary. The ending is a total anti-climax. I am baffled by comments claiming this has caused some viewers sleepless nights. I mean, come on people, really. When I watched this alone, my reaction was: 'is that it?' When I watched it a second time with my mates, after it ended, their reaction was: 'hey, where were the scary moments?'

Forget this and go for the Blair Witch Project. A much superior film.

Does Not Deserve Its Classic Status
21 March 2003
Don't believe the hype. This is a truly appalling film and one of Bruce Lee's worst.

The fight scenes (and lets face it, that's all people are interested in when watching a Lee film) are rubbish. The world famous 2 Nunchuck scene is no big deal. The end fight with Chuck Norris is totally exaggerated. I cannot believe people claim this duel to be the best martial arts fight in cinema history. Get Real.

If you insist on watching a Bruce Lee film, then I would advise 'Fist of Fury' as the best introduction to the Master.

What tah!! Awoooooooooooo

Stands up to Repeat Viewing-Eastwood delivers again..
20 March 2003
A Very Good movie about the only man to have escaped from the world's most famous prison. Clint Eastwood once again puts in another great performance (as does Patrick McGhoon). It's great watching the build up to the prison breakout. My only slight niggle is that the film ought to have been a little bit longer. But overall, it certainly stands up to repeated viewing and comes well recommended. If you are considering purchasing this on DVD be warned, it comes with no extras. Shame on you Paramount.

Too many Plot Holes Spoil Movie.
19 March 2003
The storyline/plot in this film make absolutely no sense at all. For example, why does the French Detective turn on our hero Jet Li?

Why is Jet Li brought from China for a routine drugs bust?

Why wont the main villain let the girl and her daughter go home?

If you're considering buying this movie on the idea that it displays Jet Li at his best: DONT. Try instead to get hold of the uncut version of Fist of Legend (Ritek Version), which is not dubbed and has English subtitles.

F.O.L. shows Li at his Martial Arts best.

What? A Muslim A Hero And Not A Terrorist!!!!
19 March 2003
Finally, Hollywood has decided to make a movie in which a Muslim is portrayed as Hero not a Terrorist. Yes, you read right, HERO.

The film is about a group of Vikings who recruit an Arab Ambassador (Banderas) to fight strange man eating creatures. The movie has its moments of gory deaths, atmosphere and edge of the seat scenes (particularly when our heroes decide to go into the monsters den).

Despite a rather rushed conclusion, overall, this is still a rather enjoyable flick and you wont feel you wasted time watching it. If you're a Muslim, then I would certainly recommend you add it to your movie collection, as Hollywood rarely makes films for you.

Good Fun. Enjoy it.
18 March 2003
This is a stupidly entertaining movie. My only criticism would be the casting of LL Cool J. It is typical of Hollywood to have a token black man who happens to be an ex con; turned man of God; carrying a large Crucifix around his neck; giving us quotes from the Bible. Pleeeassee! How many times have seen that before. Look past that and it is an enjoyable popcorn flick.

A Movie about Angels angry with God for favouring Humans had without doubt, great potential. Christopher Walken is great in the role of the Angel Gabriel. However, what spoilt it for me was that the film concentrated too much on Christianity. Constant reference to Church, Jesus and the Bible meant that unless you happen to follow this faith, you will not get much satisfaction out of this.

Good Movie. Rent it.
18 March 2003
Not a bad movie. Basically, the plot involves two white blokes who are trapped in a room inside a derelict building surrounded by black gangsters. It contains a host of rap artists including Ice T (whose line 'I'm a businessman, not a gangster and these are my associates') is a classic.

The problem is that the film is a little bit too long and should have been timed by 10 minutes or so. Also, considering that it stars a host of rap artists, the film hardly contains much rap music in the background (to add some atmosphere).

Overall, not bad and certainly worth a rental; but a purchase? Hmmm.

A Wasted Opportunity
18 March 2003
I hope there is never a special edition release of this terrible sequel to the original. This is a non starter right from the beginning due to the absence of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Danny Glover is a useless Arnold replacement. I have never been impressed with this bloke (not even in the Lethal Weapon films) and this film has done nothing to change my view. Watching him, one of the first thing you say is:

'There is no way this guy can take on the Predator'.

Acting is just average and in some cases very poor (particularly by Glover's three cop partners in the film). Granted, some scenes do stand out. Especially the bit where the Predator is fixing himself up after a duel with Glover. But that is about it.

However much you like this film, you can't say it's a successful continuation of a prospering franchise. All it succeeded in doing was killing of the Predator series. Stick with the original.

Police Story (1985)

Overrated Jackie Flick
18 March 2003
If you are looking for a good Jackie Chan film as starter, this is not it. The only good point in this film is the end fight sequence. If you have never seen a Jackie Chan film before than this fight will certainly amaze you (other than that, there is little as to say about Police Story).

I much rather advise you look at some of Jackie's earlier period movies as an ideal introduction; the best of which is Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin (Columbia Version). This is period Kung Fu at its greatest and one of Jackie Chan's best films ever.

The fight sequences are top class and makes you criticise Jackie for abandoning such fighting style in favour of faster and less realistic bouts adopted from Project A onwards (Save Drunken Master 2-which, by the way, is crazily overrated by reviewers). I really do wish Jackie would make at least one period movie again.......

Total Rubbish
18 March 2003
What can I say about Chinese Super Ninjas?

Okay. The word 'Rubbish' should do it. Cheesy costumes (okay it was filmed in the 1970s), Cheesy soundtrack, Cardboard props, Silly plot and absolute rubbish choreographed martial arts. Just looking at the Gold, Water, Wood etc ‘Ninjas' makes me laugh. Maybe the Shaw Brothers meant it to be filmed this way but ‘classic' it is not.

I have seen better acting and chorography in my local school play. I think people who like this movie are guided and influenced more by nostalgia about the ‘glory' days of pre-Jackie Chan Kung Fu/Martial Arts than reason, really (children of the 70s I presume?).

Yawn. Boring.
18 March 2003
Personally I would advise people to stay clear of this movie. It's on the whole a bore to watch and the fighting is poorly choreographed. Slow and not very convincing. If you buy the Hong Kong Legends DVD release of this movie, then the only thing worth listening to is the Bey Logan audio commentary.

But in any case, since when has there ever been a Ninja film worth watching. I cannot think of one and frankly do not wish to.

Overall, when it comes to Movies, I have one golden rule: Avoid any films that contains the word 'Ninja'.

Sorry, but its Over-rated!!!
18 March 2003
I really do suggest you avoid this silly film. It really is a waste of time and (if you intend to purchase it) money.

I have found that people who like this movie primarily do so based on nostalgia. The special effects are beyond belief i.e. rubbish. Okay some of the first transformation into a wolf is rather good (the prosthetic work gives the scene a much more realistic feeling) but overall, it's silly. Notice how shots of the werewolf are always kept to a few seconds only. Why? Simple. Because it looks like a Muppet or something you can buy in a fancy dress store!

Overall, lousy effects or not, it is still a rubbish film.

Rubbish and Over-rated
18 March 2003
Anyone who finds this film remotely frightening really must live a sheltered life.

I guess these are the same people who find Freddy Krugger chilling. Just avoid this film. You can spot the bits where the viewer is meant to jump a mile away.

Really, why is this considered a 'classic'? It is in the same mould as Friday The 13th Jason Voorhees. Since when does being locked up for half you life (for killing your older sister) suddenly give you almost superhuman powers and strength?

Wishmaster (1997)

Great Fun. Add it to your Collection
17 March 2003
I love this film. Its great the way the Djinn goes about twisting wishes. An interesting idea and surprising that no one thought of it earlier. Andrew Divoff is superb as the Wishmaster and certainly steals the show. The Djinn makeup is superb and Divoff's portrayal of it is great (love the sound of its voice). The special effects are surprisingly quite good for a low budget movie. My only criticism is that it is not long enough. An extra 15 minutes would have made it much more enjoyable. Considering that the movie was not exactly a blockbuster at the box office, the extras on the DVD are also very good (containing an interesting audio commentary). This is not a 'horror' movie as such, so don't expect any frights or sleepless nights. It's a fantasy. Good fun. Enjoy it.
