Funny Business (1978)
Wonderful!
If you have a copy of this please put it on you tube.
The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946)
Soap Opera
An over long soap opera with endless violin music. Lots of talking and not much else. Great cast wasted on bad script.
Father Knows Best: Mister Beal Meets His Match (1958)
It is John Williams, not Ray Milland.
I had heard for years about this strange episode of "FKB" where the family is visited by the Devil himself. The Devil supposedly played by Ray Milland. I found hard to believe the series would do such an episode but here it is. But it's British actor John Williams who played the Devil, not Milland. Williams would later play Mr French on "Family Affair" after Sebastian Cabot left.
Still the Beaver (1983)
What a great show!
I loved every episode of this show! They did a great job of updating and adding to the original series. I especially loved the 1940's flashback where they showed how Ward and June met. If you loved the original series you must see this. Ken Osmond is particularly talented. I noticed many episodes focused on Eddie Haskell. They must have realized he was the most entertaining character. Barbara Billingsley seems to be having the time of her life. They were so lucky to get so many of the original cast members back for this one. No "remake" show was ever this successful. Clever and creative writing. Occasional clips of the original show. We must get this complete series available on DVD!
Whispering Ghosts (1942)
Would have been better with Bob Hope
This is a good film and a fine example of the scare comedies popular in the 1940's. Bob Hope specialized in this type of comedy and he would have been much better in this. Milton Berle is OK but his jokes aren't as good and his acting is too broad. Of course Berle always did broad comedy and deliberately overacted and it usually worked. Look at "Mad, Mad World" for example. Here his bad acting weakens the film. On the plus side the blond is nice to look at and Willie Best steals the film with his brilliant comedy reactions. Willie Best was always the best thing in every movie he was in. I don't know what they paid this guy but it wasn't enough.
One Way Wahine (1965)
No great shakes.
No message board and no user reviews! Has no one seen this movie? Apparently not. I'm watching a poor bootleg copy right now. I love the the 1960's beach party movies but this is quite a bore. Joy Harmon is the title character, "One Way Wahine", the only starring role she would ever have. She spends much of the movie in a bikini or some such little costume and does a sexy dance around a campfire which is my favorite scene. Joy is the only reason why you'll want to see this film. Incredibly beautiful and sexy she played only bit parts in a few 1960's films. Joy is best known for "Cool Hand Luke" in the wonderful car washing scene and "Village of the Giants", a true classic. I'm sorry she didn't do more. Anthony Eisley (77 Sunset Strip) is the only other known actor. The rest of the cast are complete amateurs reading their lines off of cue cards. There's no plot worth mentioning and a lousy music track which is what beach party movies need most. Pretty lame except for Joy.
Coplan prend des risques (1964)
Cheap Low Budget Skipperoo!
Often sold as a European James Bond ripoff but even that is giving it too much credit. Cheap, low budget, black and white with a cast of unknowns. It was released in may 1964 meaning it was made before the James Bond craze so can hardly be called a response to that series. The hero is a drag. The plot, they're looking for some rocket fuel or something, is hardly worth mentioning and the bad guys not scary. Virni Lisi is nice to look at and takes a bath in one scene which is the closest you'll get to any excitement in this waste of time film. Some time after the James Bond craze and ever since films like this were released as another secret agent film. That is how this DVD was advertised to me. But don't be fooled.
Route 66: Journey to Nineveh (1962)
Only worth seeing because...
Buster Keaton and Joe E Brown are back together. The plot is threadbare and lightweight as the previous poster said. But then so is everything else in less lame series. The slapstick fight at the end is particularly embarrassing. They should have just let Keaton and Brown ad lib the whole episode. Route 66 is only worth watching for the old stars who guest star now and then. If you think this plot is thin try out the "Halloween" one with Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney. The plots are irrelevant which is probably just as well as the writing on this show is horrible! Terrible dialog. Stupid attempts at comedy. But tune in to see the Great Keaton and Brown.
