Cold Creek Manor (2003)
Not What I Expected
This movie was not at all what I expected and that is a bad thing. The previews portrayed it as something of a spooky ghost tale, almost like "The Haunting" or "Haunted Mansion." In fact, while at the video store, my girl friend told me that I'd like it because it was a lot like the previous mentioned movies. It was not. The story was kind of dry and lacked substance. It didn't provide enough to get the audience involved, and there wasn't enough background story to get you hooked. The plot was predictable and it just didn't live up to its name. It has all the makings of a good movie, minus the salt or ketchup for flavoring. It's too bad because the director assembled a great cast. Stephen Dorrf did an awesome job as Dale Massie and I always enjoy Dennis Quaid. My vote says save this movie for when you have a free rental.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
What was this?
I didn't get it. That's pretty much the gist of it. This movie was bizarre, and yet, it didn't scare me at all. I think it was meant to be watched while smoking pot and rocking out to heavy metal. But I have to give it some credit. It was just bizarre enough to make me want to see the sequel. The movie, for the most part, made sense to me. It was near the end that everything turned into one gigantic acid trip. It went from plausible reality to plain insanity. I guess I left the movie feeling as if I was robbed. I wanted to know more and I definitely wanted to see more. Like, for example, who exactly was this Dr. Satan, and why was he living underground torturing victims? I did understand that this movie was something of a satanic cult, but still, I'm clueless. I suppose if the sequel follows up with the original, then I'll be a happy man. My vote is that if you're an eclectic movie collector like myself, this movie would make an AWESOME addition to your DVD collection right between Repo Man and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Final Destination 2 (2003)
Another Predictable Horror
Honestly, I have to say, Final Destination 2 was a lot better than its predecessor. This movie had more gore than the first one, and in some parts, it was a bit too violent. For example, the opening sequence on the highway was more than I expected to see. Overall, the movie was OK and I probably wouldn't pay to see it again. It's a morbid dollar theater flick.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
What a horrible disappointment!
I was so disappointed with Episode II! After waiting three years for this sequel to TPM, I was shocked with how horrible the acting was. The one redeeming quality of this film was its score composed by the ever brilliant John Williams. I hope that Lucas will redeem himself in Episode III. However, I do own this movie on DVD. It's one of those movies that you have to own.
Star Trek: First Contact (1996)
Pretty decent sequel
By itself, Star Trek First Contact wasn't fantastic, but it's probably one of the better films out of the series. It was the first Star Trek film to include all of the Next Generation cast and none from the original series. Overall, I enjoyed this one. There were a couple scenes where I was left wanting to see more. For example, I think the ending was rushed. I would have also liked to have seen a longer battle sequence in the beginning between the Borg and Starfleet. Either way, I recommend this film to everybody.
Star Trek: Generations (1994)
I liked Generations a lot!
I really liked Generations a lot. It is a movie I own on DVD and I love to watch it. The plot wasn't that great, but the overall "passing of the torch" theme between Captain Kirk and Captain Picard was great! I thought the battle scene between the Enterprise-D and the Klingon ship was awesome, and I was just really impressed with everything including the film score. The only thing that disappointed me about this movie was the fact that I expected more out of an interaction between Kirk and Picard.
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
This movie is missing something!
I'm sorry to say that this movie really disappointed me. It was missing something. First of all, it was missing Frakes who didn't return to the director's seat as he should have. Secondly, it didn't have that witty banter and dialogue that spiced up Insurrection. There were many scenes lacking that "trek" humor we have grown so fond of, as well as many missed opportunities to add closure or finality to a scene. For example, after Riker kills the Reman Viceroy, he doesn't conclude the scene with something like, "don't worry, hell is dark." Moreover, the cameos were pointless. I would have liked to have seen more with Guinan's character, as well as learned about Wesley Crusher's sudden return after being whisked away by the traveler in Star Trek: TNG. The space battles were great! I thought the special effects were awesome. However, you couldn't really relate with the bad guy "Shinzon" because of the lack of character development there. Finally, Data's "sacrifice" was too predictable. It didn't grab me like Spock's death in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn. Overall, I was disappointed with this movie, and I'm hoping that the writers redeem themselves by somehow making another, better film.

Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)
I actually enjoyed this movie!
Granted, it didn't have everything I wanted in it, but I actually enjoyed Star Trek: Insurrection. The humor was great, although I wish there was a little more between the Enterprise and the Son'a ships. I enjoyed this movie and I own it on DVD.
