Outcast (2014)
Watching this movie may be harmful to your eyes!
When I saw the preview before watching I thought this movie was going to be similar to season of the witch - one of Nicholas Cages previous movies which wasn't too bad.
This movie was one of Nicholas Cages and Hayden Christensen worst films ever, bad accents, poor effects, awful storyline, and overall horrible acting to a point where you would think neither ever acted before! This movie had poor production running it along with all around rush to put big names on a poster and hope for the best. Kinda like putting Lip Stick on a Pig.
The the storyline doesn't fit well with anything historic and just seems to unbelievable to be interesting The action scenes are atrocious, pure lack of skill and acting prowess. The costumes and weapons, styles and techniques - 1 out of 10.
Hayden Christensen who played in Star Wars and did a fair job, was given a horrible role of a character who is just a drunken waste product with no believability. Not sure who his agent is but he needs better roles and show better acting skills.
Nicholas Cage is just sad as his acting ability is horrible to be seen (kinda reminds me of when he played the Italian Soldier in that awful WW2 movie - Private Somethings Mandolin). Not sure if his contract with Disney is over but his agent isn't doing a good job in choosing the right roles for him.
Gotta say this film was a huge letdown and I would advise avoiding it.
American Sniper (2014)
One of Clint Eastwoods finest directed movies!
The movies is about Chris Kyle's home life and military career with the US Navy as a SEAL sniper. The movie has some intense moments, containing violent and disturbing scenes. The movie doesn't portray Chris as a Rambo figure but rather a man that deals with the problems all soldiers have to face both overseas and at home. Clint Eastwood who is in his mid-eighties, shows us he still has it, directing an amazing film. The movie tells Kyle's story the way he told it in the first book. Overall, American Sniper is a great movie that has all the components, that make a movie great. For anyone who is a war film enthusiast, this is a movie for you. To those who call Chris Kyle a murderer and baby killer, I believe you fail to understand what soldiers sacrifice to protect our liberties and keep us free.
Into the Woods (2014)
Trailer was better than the Movie
Having watched the trailer and seeing some big names thrown into the mix I believed this may be a really good movie to watch with my children. Started watching the startup and seeing it was a Disney film I though - great they probably spent a lot of money on visual effects and storyline - boy was I wrong. First the movie it a for the most part a musical - and not a good one at that! Little Red comes across a gluttonous thief and is annoying. Next is Jack who is either autistic or his mother beat him to the point where he is brain damaged. Wolf "Johnny Depp" comes across as a pedophile! Prince Charming is unfaithful, as so on and so on...totally waste of time watching this. I had four kids with me ( They were ages 7, 9 (X2) and 12) and they all wanted to leave after the first 15 minutes. I don't blame them as this entire movie was just a hyped up version of the coming together of the Grimm stories into another grab for cash. Not a good movie for children, adults, or anyone who likes a good musical.
The Interview (2014)
Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!
With all the Hype and Controversy on the news over this movie I took it upon myself to go and watch. I enjoyed other movies by the same Producer and the main actors have always entertained in other movies. Having watched Team America: World Police (which at the time also was hyped up and had a lot of controversy with north Korea's leader), it brought back some memories. Overall the movie is entirely satirical and should be laughed at - with the funniest moments for me being the scenes where Katy Perri's song - Firework was being referenced. If your a fan of Seth Rogan or James Franco then I think you will enjoy this movie. There have been numerous propaganda movies since the invention of movies to present, which downplay other nations and its leaders, and even going so far as to be racist, prejudice, and downright Anti Semitic - but its what is approved by that country. Overall I do believe that North Koreans weren't being discriminated against but rather it is a good poke at the government and its leadership.
John Carter (2012)
Almost as bad as Water World
When Disney made its announcements on spending a quarter of a billion on this movie and put out trailers showing what appeared to be a great sci-fi movie, I thought to myself - maby Disney is going to use a successful producer who did a lot of the Pixar Movies and be a big success. I made the mistake of judging a movie on the theatrical trailers and boy was I disappointed.
I went to the IMAX theatre on the second week of John Carter's showing and was horrified by the fact that Disney would even consider investing into such titanic disaster of a movie. Though it will not flop as bad as Water World, I would say that it pretty close and will set Disney back a chunk of change.
I have loved all of Andrew Stanton's Pixar films and was sceptical when he took on this project to make a sci-fi/fantasy film. Wall-E was a much bigger success than this show. Sadly I think Andrew should stick to cartoon films and leave the sci-fi to Lucas, Cameron, Spielberg, and other producers who have made their mark in this industry.
I would not recommend this movie to any moderate to hard core fan of sci-fi movies. Many of the people who were in the theatre at the time when I was there were not impressed and were complaining on the way out about how long the show was and complaining about the storyline - how it jumped all over the place. This movie is a Disney film so it is intended to focus on family and younger children and it sticks to that area - but doesn't capture the same fascination as some of Disney's more successful shows.
