Bob (1992)
The Best 1st Season in Television History
Bob was the new vehicle for CBS during its 1992-1993 season. It was a critic's favorite, and it's 1st season alone landed Bob Newhart on the front cover of TV guide twice-a rare accomplishment! Often on many of the critics 10 best list for the 1992-1993 television season, `BOB' was an under appreciated, gem. Unfortunately, CBS decided to re-tool the show (changing it's format), dumping 90% of the cast, putting it back on Fridays (the show received a major ratings boost when it appeared on Monday's midway through it's first season) and adding Betty White for it's second season. But to no avail, the show was quickly cancelled.
In my opinion, its first season was one of the sharpest sitcom's I have ever seen: Quick, Odd, Quirky, Funny, and touching. I would have to disagree with the previous `critique' above/below, the chemistry on this show was great and the timing was wonderful. May this series finally get some credit? Way above it's time, and sharper and more sophisticated than Seinfeld was at the time.the best show on all four networks of the 1992-1993 season.
Ghost Ship (2002)
A Very Stupid Movie
This was a very lame movie...Corny--cheap special effects, a stupid script...and an exact copy of the director (Steve Beck) last film...The Very Lame "Thirteen Ghost"...The opening scene were everybody is decapitated...was somewhat enjoyable (disgusting of course)and is reminiscent of Becks "rookie" film "Thirteen Ghost". The entire cast was wasted, and it looked like Gabriel Byrne just signed on this film for a "paycheck". Desmond Harrington isn't much of a bad guy in this movie(on script he might have been)--but that's about it. It sounds like a good movie, had it not been a short dumb mtv style Hollywood Empty Hype Machine that went nowhere...but underwater. Budgeted at about 35 million the film came short of 5 million profit (minus advertising/promotion)...and might have completely sidetracked Julianna Margulies film carrer...and sidelined her doctor/tv pal Ron Eldard. Oh well, what can you do...the new generation of film making=over-hyped mtv junk. Thanks Steve for making such a lame movie.
The Exorcist III (1990)
Finally
Finally Brad Dourif is getting Recognized for this Role!!!!! I remember watching when I was about 15 and looking over at my brother and we both were thinking "holy S*#!" Odd as it sounds, and it does sound odd saying this...but that was (and still is) one of the greatest performances (and I know in a horror film too) that I have ever seen. An extremely underrated actor...in a very good film...I can see why he inspired Bruce Greenwood to become an actor. Very good stuff. Very good movie, go rent it--it will make "The Ring" look like a "feardotcom".
Live from Baghdad (2002)
This Just Confirms That Michael Keaton is still one of the Best.
I was anticipating this movie for quite some time. HBO was running promo's constantly for "Live From Baghdad"--I guess for about two months prior to the airing. The first 10-15 minutes of the movie seem quite boring, and I was disappointed at first, but then the movie starts cooking, and everything seems to come together. This movie just confirms for me that Michael Keaton is probably the most underrated actor working today. Is there a single guy besides Tom Hanks that can do any role for any character in any type of movie? Michael Keaton hasn't had much Box Office success of late, but he is most certainly one of Hollywood's most credible actors. He is probably the only guy in films that you actually believe he is not acting, that a camera is just following him around...wherever he goes...and there is NO ONE at all, that I can think of...that can pull that off. It's just so life like, that's it's almost not even acting. The supporting characters were really acted well too. But it's Michael Keaton who easily steals the film. A Good Film, if you ever have a chance to see it again on HBO, or when it's released on DVD or Video...rent it or buy it--It's alot better than what Hollywood has put out of late.
