Insidious (2010)
Only watch this if you want a scare.
In all seriousness, this has to probably be the scariest film I have ever seen in my entire life, and I have seen many horrors.
Not only is this movie incredibly jumpy throughout, but it plays with your mind in every way. If you're afraid of scary old women and little girls in horror films, I'd love to see your reaction after you see this. The acting is also pretty good, considering there are little known stars in this.
I saw this about two weeks ago and still find it hard to sleep now! Some of the scenes are not only scary, but disturbing, particularly the end scene....
All in all, if you want a good scare and unsettling sleeps, watch this.... you won't regret it.
Adventureland (2009)
Hey, Litterbug, in the clown mouth!
I love this movie. Truly love it.
Being a fan of movie's like "Superbad" and "Knocked Up", I was really looking forward to seeing this, but it was a hell of a lot better than I expected.
The Story-line is a great and the characters are fantastic, which nearly everybody can relate to. Kristen Stewart delivers a spectacular role as Em, and Jesse Eisenberg doesn't disappoint.
The thing I like most about this movie is Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig. They play the characters of two people who have no expression, and get wound up easily( the scene with the baseball bat is one I will not forget!) There are so many quotes which will make you laugh by these two, my favourite being, 'Litterbug, in the clown mouth!.' Also, the soundtrack is brilliant with some great songs which i would recommend keeping an ear out for.
For all ages, young and/or old, Adventureland will not disappoint! 10/10.
Dead Set (2008)
Makes me proud to be British.
I've watched several zombie films in my day,( Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead, 28 Days Later etc) but this film (I prefer stating it as a film than a series) hit all of my expectations.
Firstly, the acting is very good, seeing as there are several actors in this who I did not recognise. Secondly, the story-line is excellent; whoever came up with the idea to mix Zombies with Big Brother is simply genius. Particularly when more than more of 1/3 of Britain hate the show, and seeing Davina Mcall turn into a Zombie is one scene I will never forget! Also, films such as 'Children of the Living Dead,' and 'Dawn of the living Dead' are muchly predictable which does not create an atmosphere for a horror film. But Dead-Set is different. You simply do not what's going to happen, which is great as you do not know what to expect. Lastly, the zombies are brilliant; I've seen so many films where the zombies are so predictable, but in this they're good and fun to watch!! Altogether, a fan of Horror films or zombie films, please watch this. It won't make you disappointed!! 10/10
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Nothing too special, but a good movie none-the-less.
When I heard that there was going to be a re-make of this classic horror, I felt extremely excited and inpatient to watch this film. Perhaps I had my hopes set too high for this movie, because there were a couple of scary and jumpy moments, but it was all so predictable and massively cliché'd.
There were several good points about this movie; first of all the acting. Each character, mainly Jessica Biel and The Sheriff, gain and sustain a good authentic character which one can clearly see throughout this movie. Also, the story-line,(although a little predictable) was good.
However, the main thing that disappointed me was how stupid the characters set out to be. I found myself yelling at my T.V more than once; for instance, when Jessica Biel (little spoiler coming up people) chopped Leatherface's arm off and ran, she really could have picked up the chainsaw and finished the job. There are several other times, but I will let you decide what parts frustrate you. Moreover, every little thing is so predictable. The survivors fall over when they're running away, they fall and hurt their ankle, which happens in EVERY single Horror movie. There are also a lot of other times where you just know what's going to happen, but I will not bore you further.
To sum it all up, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good film to watch if you want a good horror with a scary villain, and should give you some scares and jumps. However, with more effort and enthusiasm from the producers and directors, this movie can do better. 6/10
Haunted Boat (2005)
Seems to me like they're making a movie for their media class.
"Haunted Boat" is probably, if not definitely one of the worst movies I have ever seen. And here's why.
You could not ask for worse acting, to me I personally thought this was a college media class, where a group of students had to make a scary movie.
Secondy, the camera work is worse than terrible; I wouldn't be surprised if they were using a video phone.
And I can write so much more, but would be here for hours! All in all, please please please do not watch this. It is 90 minutes or more which I will not ever get back of my life, and I'm saying this for your benefit.
Face/Off (1997)
In my top 3 best Movies.
What can I say?! One of the best movies I have ever seen. The Storyline is superb, and the acting is of the finest actors there is. Cage and Travolta deserve Oscars for their performances; how Cage changed from a murdering criminal to a determined good cop in the way he did, I will never know.
Another great element of this film is the action: Guns, knives, grenade launchers, AK-47s and so on! Some of the greatest gun fights I have ever seen in any movie take place here, specifically the the cop vs criminal fight in the mansion, is it? Anyway, these are just a few things I have mentioned that put this in my top 3 movies. But I must emphasise the acting once more, and how tremendous both Travolta and Cage are in this master-piece.
10/10, or in other words, brilliant!
Lost: The End: Part 1 (2010)
Great, beautiful ending to an excellent show.
In my opinion, the finale of "Lost" was breathtaking. End of. Of course, there will be some questions which will be left unanswered; for instance, about Jacob, MIB, and the rules. However, I feel that the writers' leave these answers up to our imagination, leaving our brains to be imaginative and creative. You must 'let go' and not be pinned to one question, just like Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Hurley etc had to let go to 'move on.' Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have in no doubt reached the needs and demands of "The End". The beautiful moments in this episode such as when our characters start to remember one-another in 'Purgatory' touches our hearts emotionally, as well as the action scenes taken place on Island,Jack vs MIB for example.
A sensational ending to a brilliant show. I'm just hoping that a great show like this will be followed on by by an even better show (not like anything can get better!) 10/10
