The Others (2001)
Mediocre movie, overacting and an awful ending
First of all, I would like to point out how annoying it is to watch a movie where the main actress is either whispering or screaming, and hardly never talks with a normal voice. We get that she likes it quiet in the house, but it gets pretty exhausting after a while. The plot is not that complicated, but it tries to seem mystical by not uncovering any details until the end. A very annoying tendency that this director has, just like in Abre los Ojos / Vanilla Sky, which started out good, but was ruined by an ending that explained everything, and simplified the movie extremely. The movie was instantly changed from being a fairly good metaphoric movie, to a simple sci-fi flick. I felt that nothing really happened in the movie, other than when there was some dialogue, and the characters revealed a bit of their story to each other. Very disappointing, as I felt like 2/3 of the movie had been a total waste of time, as it had no influence on the story whatsoever. Why this director is so overrated, I don't understand.
Underworld (2003)
Worthless plot, dialogue that could fit on a single page
Okay, i only saw this movie because i was the last man standing at a LAN party, and had nothing to do. I didn't expect much of the movie, but this was even worse than i expected! The plot is worthless, simply a conflict between vampires and werewolfs (given a new, fancy name, but same thing), based on the usual stuff; a couple of lies and a tragic love story. Well, both sides are just convinced that the other species are goin' down, because, well, they don't really know, because it is forbidden for them to check up on past events! What a load of crap, reveals a really weak storywriter!! For me it looked like they tried to hide the weak storyline by having as little dialogue as possible, to make the story a little more mysterious, and many of the conversations is about 2-4 lines, attended by some really weak, not-very-convincing acting. I could probably keep on, the stunts are bad too, you can actually see clearly that the characters aren't hitting each other, they jump very unrealistically etc. Well, that was all for now, avoid the movie at all costs, not worth your time and/or money.
Arizona Dream (1993)
Great movie, great soundtrack.
This movie is an absolute must-see. I was glued to the screen through most of the movie, which is a fun, sad and surrealistic love story. Note the great soundtrack too, which gives the atmosphere a final kick in the right direction :-)
9/10
Eight Legged Freaks (2002)
We laughed a couple of times...
LOL, judging by the title, i don't think i have to write "SPOILER WARNING" here.. The plot is SO bad, it's unbelievable, and i think you can easily guess it by the title. Here's the story: A horde of spiders mutate overnight, and start killing people in the local town. It's not a horror movie. There's not a single scene that's chocking, and where's the atmosphere? Even if the characters have seen their best friends been eaten by giant mutant spiders, they don't seem to be very affected. They are still sarcastic and make stupid b-film jokes, where they are supposed to be frightened and sad. Okay, we laughed a couple of times while we saw this (when the spiders got shot, and the ugly-made blood splattered all over the place), and the silly sounds they had given all the monsters. When did spiders start making *squaky* alien sounds?
And a little one for the goofs: At the ending, they are walking around in a mine, filled with methane gas. They can't make any kind of fire or sparkle, because it will set it off. Still, they can run a motor cycle with an explosion-engine. LOL.
1/10 stars. crap.
Waterworld (1995)
Fine idea, but ends up in a normal Hollywood action-film.
The beginning of the movie looked well, but just after the first action-scene it just went down. We find all the usual types. The evil type with all his evil plans about kidnapping the little girl, to get the tattoo-map on her back. We have the tough good-guy who lives alone on the sea. He's a mutant, he can breath under water and has enhanced senses. He doesn't like the girl and the woman at all. But of course he calms down at last, and becomes the usual over-sensitive macho-hero that will go through fire and risk his life to save his little friend.
So, thumbs down, i gave it a 3 out of 10.
