The Dictator (2012)

The reason why i avoid watching trailers for comedies.
27 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Just to note i haven't watched "Borat" or "Bruno",so i only kinda knew what to expect from the movie.

In short it's a really great film, filed with great humour and great actors, that doesn't take itself too seriously and it shouldn't be taken seriously from the audience around the globe. It's lighthearted comedy for those who have a hour or two to spare.

The main problem for me (as noted in the title) is that the trailer gave away maybe 70% of the really really funny parts.I remember seeing the trailer for the first time i laughed for a good 5 minutes after it ended. The second time i saw it,it actually convinced me to go and see the movie later on,expecting much more from it.

In the end i can't say i was disappointed i still think it's a great movie, just with a trailer that gives away less of the really funny moments it would have been a much, much more memorable experience. But i guess that's my mistake since i know that trailers usually give away 50% of the comedies these days.

Chronicle (2012)

Surprisingly good
8 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a real shot in the dark for me,before watching it i had no idea what to expect from it,i never saw any of the trailers, had no idea whats it about and who the actors were,a friend just called me and said that he is going to see this movie and asked me for company. You can probably already tell that my expectations were low and they were, but in the end i was really surprised at how good it turned out.

At first the movie may seem like one of those "superhero in the making" movies:Three kids gain superpowers, its all fun and games in the beginning and you just expect something bad to happen to the city so our heroes can save it and become a crime fighting trio!Thank god that doesn't happen, instead around halfway into the movie you realise its actually more like a "suppervilain in the making" type of film in the face of Andrew, but no matter what he does you still manage to feel sorry for the character because you know how his life is and what he is going through. The ending was pretty strong and i actually felt sorry for Matt because of the decision he had to make.

One of the minor annoyances in the film for me was the lack of explanation for why is he filming, when someone asks him about that he just says "Because i want to" or something like that.As much as i like the found footage genre i think this movie would have been better without it,but thats only my opinion.

In general for a guy who didn't expect much and didn't know much(if anything) about the movie i was really surprised.Great work from the three young actors who actually made me care about their characters, good looking effects and a good story.

Got what i wanted :)
28 July 2011
I really don't get all the hate this movie gets. What did people expect when they saw the trailer? Some drama filled story that will change their life forever? If i wanted that i will just go watch "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" or something of that caliber. The movie is not trying to impress the people with its story,it knows that his biggest strength is the amazing effects and its damn sure using it.

From the moment the trailer was released i knew what to expect (having watched the previous 2 Transformer movies)and that's what i got, which was explosions, explosions and more explosions :).

Anyways,my main point is that if you enter the cinema with the right mind set you will really enjoy this movie, but if you expect something amazing and some 10 star classic with unexpected twists and turns you will be very disappointed :)
