Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder (2009)
They should stick to episodes....
First of all, it's much better than the last one (since i hate all the fantasy crap, not to mention it was badly implemented), but it has issues... The problem is there just isn't enough material here for a full movie. There are a few good laughs, but nothing really worthwhile since everything is too spread out. The whole Leela-Fry love is present again and i really think it's overplayed. In every movie there was some emotional undertones concerning Fry and Leela. That in itself isn't a bad thing, but c'mon, make up your minds already, let them be together or not. The problem is that all these movies are light-years behind the episodes. Maybe it was a blessing that they only made 4 seasons, since almost all the episodes are really good. But now the material is getting old, and drawing it out into hour and a half movies doesn't help... The story is so-so and there are too many characters. It almost feels like they tried to fit everyone in, but most times it has no point. Sure its fun to see the Don-Bot or Lurr, but it has no place in the movie's story line. And the whole Men vs Women theme of the whole movie is funny at first but gets old at the end. Don't even understand what the message is...
It's not bad, but nowhere near great. They should stick to 30 min. long episodes. Those where the ones that made futurama popular.
Good Luck Chuck (2007)
Who cares about the nudity!? It's the movie that's bad
Some people are giving this movie bad reviews cuz' there are too many "explicit" sex scenes in it. I think they are missing the point completely... If anything the sex scenes are the high point of the movie since everything is just SO BAD. But if i want sex scenes i'll watch something appropriate not bloody rom-com's.
The story is just... stupid, the acting is bad and this movie features the must unfunny funny guy in the history of movies - Dan Fogler. The amount of bad jokes he spews out is amazing. Alba is pretty and that's it, her "clumsy" personality is annoying not funny. Some of her accidents look almost like something out of Home Alone...
Actually i have a hard time criticizing this movie... So i'll just write the good things. THERE ARE NONE. I'd rather stare at a blank wall for 2 hours than watch this crap again.
It looks like the writers drank some cheap liquor and then wrote the script on a bar napkin.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
On of the most confusing films...
First off, i really liked the first movie (The curse of the black pearl). I thought it was a fun action movie with great acting from Rush and Depp. Heck, even Orlando was O.K.
Now the final movie in the trilogy is a very confusing movie. I admit i didn't "get" the plot when i first watched it. THe sheer amount of characters is amazing. We have Jack Sparrow, Turner, Swan, Barbossa, Norrington, Davy Jones, Calypso and more... That's right. The movie has so many main characters and so many side-characters it get's totally lost. Before the end i didn't know who was supposed to be the good guy, who was this calypso and where did she come from, why is Jack doing certain things etc. I read they didn't start shooting with a finished script and i must say, it shows. Introduction of a major character in the last part of the movie, with no mention of the character in previous films. You can just see it was a last minute decision. So after re-watching the second and this part, reading the FAQ here, i "got" the plot. It's not that the film requires too much thinking to be understood, this isn't 2001 Space Odessey, it's just complicated due to bad script writing.
As for the acting, the only one i liked was Rush. He does just the right amount of silly acting whilst others don't do so well. Depp is back and is a bit annoying as Sparrow. He almost made the first movie, while here he's a bit too wacky. An idiot at times. Orlando Bloom's character is confusing, since now he's pirate? What's the point? He was supposed to be the upstanding, honest guy. Doesn't bring much to the table. Knightly is just plain bad. Don't think it has much to do with her but more with the script. She came from a lady turned semi-pirate, in the first movie, to Xena the warrior princess in this one. It's really stupid the way she gives a motivational speech to the pirates about their battle for freedom (pirates=freedom get it?). And the constant shot's of her shouting "FIRE" just so out of character...
On the whole, the trilogy shouldn't have been made. The first movie was a light fun movie. The second was effects heavy and started to complicate things. Didn't have the charm of the first and Sparrow turned into an idiot. The last is just plain bad.
