Nowhere (2023)
Absolutely brilliant survival thriller
Those who gave 1 star to the movie becoz they thought the container will sink, please take a look at the following. Obviously the info in the trivia is WRONG.
The standard dimensions for a 40-foot steel shipping container are 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8.5 feet high. Its volume is hence 2720 cubic feet or 77 cubic meters.
The weight of an empty 40-foot container is typically around 8,000 pounds (approximately 3629 kg).
To determine if it will float, we need to consider the buoyancy force, which depends on the volume of water displaced by the container. Saltwater has a density of approximately 1025 kg/m^3
The buoyancy force of an empty container is
77 m^3 x 1025 kg/m^3 x 9.81m/s^2 = 775,000 Newton
The gravitational force on the container is
3629kg x 9.81m/s B^2 = 35,600 Newton
As anyone who has studied high school physics can calculate, the container will float. (The buoyancy force is 20x that of the gravitational force of the steel container). It will even float if 95% of the container is filled with water. Of course there are leaks, but in the movie the holes are small and they were plugged. So I would say it is very plausible that the container will float for a very long time, as long as the water doesn't fill up at least 90% of the total volume of it.
Science aside, the movie is brilliant. Anything that Mia had done makes total sense. The cargo inside the container all seem useless in the beginning but at the end, every item played a part in Mia's survival.
The mood of the movie is great, the pacing is good and there is not 1 minute of it that's boring.
Highly recommended to anyone who has a sense of science and interest in survival movie.
Saw X (2023)
Not bad .... But still very far behind Saw (2004)
Yes it's entertaining and there is a plot twist as usual, although it is obvious that Parker is an accomplice of Cecilia as soon as he shows up at the warehouse.
The finale game is underwhelming compared to other games played in the movie. Valentina has to cut her own leg, Mateo has to open his own skull, Gabriella needs to shatter her own hand and foot. And Cecilia's game? Just to kill a guy, that's it.
I mean, throughout the movie Cecilia has demonstrated her callous behavior. When she saw her accomplice died, she was thinking "one less person to split the money". I don't see why the finale game is challenging for her nor give her a chance to "reborn".... She would have killed Parker anyways if given the right circumstances.
The cinematography and gruesome scenes were nicely done though.
Hacks (2021)
Outstanding comedy that also warms your heart
I am not a fan of the comedy genre, yet I find this show absolutely brilliant and fun to watch. Got recommended by a friend. Initially hesitant to watch but after 2 episodes I am hooked. Many have already written about Jean and Hannah and how great their performances are. I also like to point out I like the Jimmy and Kayla arc. The pair is ridiculously hilarious. I would love to see a spin off about them.
Into the Night (2020)
Season 2 sucks
I thoroughly enjoyed season 1. Then came season 2 and it was so disappointing. Honestly the characters deserve to die. All of them.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Very very lame
If it wasn't for the special effects and Gal Gadot I would have given it a 3/10. The ending where everyone renounces their wishes is like a kid's movie plot. This movie is seemingly out of no where and almost has no connection with the other movies in the franchise apart from the fact that they purposely bring Steve back to life because otherwise they couldn't fit a male lead into the narrative. And again when Diana renounces her wish we can get rid of Steve again. Ah.... very very lame. Hugely disappointed.
