A Haunting at Silver Falls (2013)
A great B horror movie
The young lead, Jordan, is very cute quintessential girl next door. The dorky boyfriend is Michael Cera inspired. The movie has some crazy twists & turns. There are some unexpected scares but, it lacks a bit on the gore side. Since it was low budget the lighting isn't great. The camera is a little wonky but, I appreciate that the director tried to make it pleasing to the eye and had some nice establishing shots. Overall, it was a good watch for a B movie. I look forward to checking out the 2nd one.
Gypsy (2017)
When good TV goes horribly wrong
This show is not bad. This show is not good. This is 10 episodes of waiting for something to make sense or some drama to happen The viewer is left scratching their head after each episode wondering what exactly the plot of the episode was supposed to be so, you continue to binge to find out what ends up to be a 10 episode exposition that leaves you with nothing but questions. Naomi Watts is better than this. I am not sure how this slid thru the focus groups without someone saying "ummm what the actual heck is this about?" I do not recommend this show even if Netflix claims that it is "suggested for you." This is a clear aim & a miss for Netflix The suspenseful music in the background leads you to believe any second something crazy is going to happen......but to save you the time. It never does. Gypsy because it wanders & makes no sense. I guess the name suits it.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016)
You had ONE JOB.
My daughter & I are HUGE fans of Gilmore Girls. We bonded watching the original series as she grew up, have Luke's Diner t-shirts, and videos of us being silly & singing the theme song. In fact, at important places in our lives we have given speeches were I said "You are the Rory to my Lorelai" and vice versa for her. We were so excited, as she enters her senior year of high school, to catch up with our favorite mother & daughter pair which we related & bonded with so much. We anticipated it for months. After binge watching all 4 seasons I can tell you that relaunching a beloved classic is a BAD idea.
We wanted SO BADLY to love this. We were routing for it. Our expectations were very low as we expected more of the same. The bar was so low I cannot believe it wasn't met. If you are a true fan of the original series, skip this revival as it will taint your memory. Your favorite characters (Lane, Jess, Sookie, Michel, Dean, and others) are glossed over to make room for pointless musical numbers, weird "Across the Universe" style scenes, TERRIBLE cinematography, and even worse writing. HOW could you mess this up so badly ASP? You had ONE JOB.
