Let It Snow (2019)
Reminded me of Love Actually sort of--
I am totally not the demographic for this movie since I'm much older and the one person that I related to and remember the most was the older crazy tow truck driver. It's one of those movies that I think younger people would enjoy however from an average movie goer perspective the film felt like it lacked cohesion. The scenes seemed really patched together and the characters don't seem to have depth. It felt like watching a dream where you don't know really what's going on and it just keeps going. It did remind me of Love Actually because of the multiple character arcs but lacked nuance for an emotional connective journey. For me it's a forgetable movie experience. But it can be one of those films you play just to have something playing during a family gathering and there are teenagers in the room. I appreciate the diversity in casting. If people have issue with it I think it speaks more about them than the actual film.
Mango Kiss (2004)
Could not even finish it
I borrowed this movie because not only because its gay theme but the thought of role playing really intrigued me. I was pleasantly surprised that it was shot in San Francisco since I live near SF. And of course it was nice to see shots of the Castro district (although the castro to me really caters more to gay male than female). But other than that I can't really recommend this movie. The characters aren't really developed for me to care and when they finally started to get to the "role playing" I was already bored out of my mind. And the role playing scenes that I did see were a bit embarrassing to watch. The acting leaves something to be desired. Needless to say I didn't finish the movie. I'd skip this one.
Robots (2005)
Robot malfunction
I quickly looked at the comments from other users and I wonder if we saw the same movie. I really disliked this movie. To keep it short I found the animation uninspiring, the dialog lame, the plot line boring and I felt a lot of jokes fell flat. I felt a lot of scenes were sort of just put there to make things seem exciting and thrilling but in the end had no point to it. For instance the transportation scene...it's cool and all but it kind of left me feeling the animators just haphazardly thought about it. I am unsure what exactly happened in the middle of the movie because I fell asleep but I did wake up at the end and I wasn't that impressed. Robin williams, ewan mcgregor and halle berry---were all wasted here. I'm glad "The incredibles" came out yesterday.
Jeux d'enfants (2003)
I wished someone dared me to not watch this movie!!!
I really disliked this movie....mainly because of the main characters! They are both immature, selfish, and self-centered people. They hurt EVERYBODY around them playing their silly game. The visual effects were good but what good are they if there are no characters that you connect with or a story line that is interesting. Am I supposed to be happy when these two psycho people FINALLY consummate their love for each other?
After watching this movie I was thinking "This is supposed be the #1 smash from France?"........
*spoiler*
As for the end: GOOD RIDDANCE! They both deserve each other!
Elf (2003)
I love Will ferrel and Jon Favreau but I hated the movie
Didn't laugh and just wasn't into it. I found the elf character to be more annoying than funny. I was told that this movie was really funny but I guess I'm just not easily amused. Towards the middle of the flick I was secretly hoping that the elf would go into a diabetic coma with all that sugar he was eating! I thought the stop motion animation was a nice touch however I wouldn't recommend this movie at all! 2/10
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
Awesome Soundtrack...um that's about it. some spoilers
I was so pumped up and excited before watching this flick...oh after it was over my sis and I didn't want to say it to each other...the movie was terrible, ridiculous and a bit of a bore. I know it's a two parter and its an homage to all those shaw brothers movies but can we get a little more on the character "The Bride". I mean what is the point of all this? Why should I give a **** about the Uma Thurman character? I really feel that is what a lot of movies lack now a days. I feel like movies are more eye candy than substance and just rush to the great action scenes without allowing the audience time to attach to a character. I mean, I felt a little sympathetic with the Lucy Liu character because of that little anime on her character's background. I kind of wished there was something like that for the Bride. I mean for the first 10 minutes she gets shot in the head and then shes knife fighting with Vernita Green. Yeah we know she's on the war path for revenge but give me a chance to know the character...that way the fighting scenes would be "more" than just fighting scenes.
My favorite moment which some of you might find kind of weird is the transition between the anime to the bride when she says "But first thing first....wiggle your big toe". That to me was classic QT. I wish there more classic moments like that. I don't know why ppl are raving about this movie...unless you're into flying limbs, blood and gore.
Perhaps, the second part might bring more character development. At least I can say that the soundtrack is awesome. 3/10
Sennen joyû (2001)
well, I just wasn't feeling it.....
I made the 45 minute drive to go see this with 2 other people. I have an appreciation for Japanese animations ever since I saw "Vampire Hunter D" when I was 12. And I love all types of anime...from the gory to the melodramatic ones. I think the height of my love for animes peaked in high school. I don't consider myself to be a fanatic....maybe now a casual viewer. Well, I just wasn't feeling this particular anime. I didn't find the story line to be that interesting and the idea of the camera guy and filmmaker being in the flashbacks was tolerable at first, then annoying, then absolutely redundant. I was confused at times and couldn't distinguish between the "movie making" and the "reality" of the story. And well, the whole idea of chasing a man that you've only met for a short time and not even seeing his face seemed to me to be well...boring...especially with the way it was handled here. I just wasn't feeling it.
Margaret Cho: Notorious C.H.O. (2002)
Margaret Cho shines again in another concert film!
I love Notorious C.H.O.!!! If you liked "I'm the One that I want" then check this one out. There's more over the top raunchy sex jokes which makes it way better than her first effort. Truly not for the faint of heart but FUNNY AS HELL!!I love Margaret's insightful jokes about sex and family. I know Margaret is known for her "Mommy" jokes but I'm glad it was kept at a minimal this time around and the ones she did use were so F&%$ing funny!! A great concert film that not only is funny but has a message from the heart. (Unzips mask) YOU GO MARGARET CHO!!!!!!!:)
