Thoroughly ignorable, frustratingly unfunny.

Not only because of the puerile, idiotic subject matter of the sketches but also because of the simple lack of comedy are Horne and Corden utterly depraved and without hope walking alone in the comedy world. A degree of skill in comedic acting of course does not imply a skill in comedic writing, Horne & Corden being the perfect example. How the two ended up with creative controlÂ… well, I shudder to think how the producers couldn't seem to tell them that the material being filmed just wasn't funny. I disliked it from episode one but I gave it a fighting chance. However, instead of fighting it floundered, and not once in three episodes have I laughed. And don't get me wrong, I'm a fun guy. I'll crack a smile at the worst of times, only Horne & Corden was worse than I thought possible. And it's a shame, too. I really was prepared to like it. I like them both so much. Or at least I thought I did.

The sketch show is of course a dangerous beast, the best some do is pack a decent amount of laughs into the first few episodes before the whole affair gets stale, but these two idiots have managed to produce a purely depressing programme in which the sketches drag on with no real jokes of any possible identification. Sit through a Xander sketch and try not to squirm. Switch off as the two morons dressed in super hero outfits ramble on about God-knows-what, but it sure as hell isn't funny. Then turn off the TV.

This programme would have been thoroughly ignorable if it hadn't been for the BBC's hype of it and the popularity of Gavin and Stacy.

Fairly amusing and certainly nice to look at, but...

Not as funny as the other Wallace and Gromit shorts, and certainly not as charming. Many of the jokes were spoofing well known films and would probably only be found funny by people that have seen them. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable enough and the animation, as always with Wallace and Gromit and with Aardman was top-notch which is great considering the fact that A Matter of Loaf and Death had the shortest production time for any Wallace and Gromit short so far.

It'll please the kids, that's for sure. The adult-pleasing jokes felt sparse but hit the mark. The story lacked the usual quirky charm of Wallace and Gromit but it still pretty much worked. I enjoyed the film but overall felt it lacked elements that made the previous ones so brilliant, so for me it's a 7/10.

A spectacularly lacklustre movie.
23 April 2008
This movie was bad enough for me to want to come onto IMDb and submit my debut review, so here it is: When faced with a family comedy, you'd hope that at least one member of the family audience would laugh a few times. At least. Unfortunately, only two or three times during this movie was there an attempt at humour just funny enough to ALMOST make me smile, or indeed to make the five and seven year olds I watched this movie with almost lift out of the stupor they were thrown into by the horrifying monotony that was Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief. At these moments of near-humour, I would hope that perhaps the movie was improving, but then my foolish optimism would fizzle out again as the movie sank back into its dreary dialogue and dull acting. Of course, the acting isn't something that would be such a big importance in this kind of movie, but here it is so terrible that it is one of the straws that broke the camel's back. I believe this was the fourth film in a series. That fact alone speaks volumes. It was boring in almost every respect and not worth anybody's money or time.
