The Bernie Mac Show (2001)
Very funny show
The Bernie Mac show (FOX) and Scrubs (NBC) are the two funniest shows on television. Honestly, I don't know how it would be possible to get funnier than these two shows. What Seinfeld and Friends were to the 1990s, Bernie Mac and Scrubs are to this first decade of the new millennium.
Juice (1992)
B-Level Script, Awesome Acting
It's pretty obvious Omar Epps and Tupac are awesome actors. If you don't get it from this movie, watch some of their other work and you'll get it. This movie's script was kind've crap and unbelievable. We're supposed to believe that before the movie Bishop was down and then all of a sudden at the beginning he turns into some cold, calculating guy willing to murder his friends? Man, please. But Tupac had a lot to say, but just didn't have it figured out; he was a little confused. And he got killed before he got a chance to raise up out. But I think Eminem has some of the same emotional complexity and while he has the same death-wish kind've attitude, the rap game isn't as dangerous as it once was. I expect we'll see Eminem grabbing a lot of the roles that Pac would've played.
The Chase (1994)
Pretty terrible (2/10)
I'm really surprised at how highly rated this movie is. It was pretty god-awful - poorly written, far-fetched, and stupid. Yeah, I got the point about how the rich control the media, about how rich kids want for the "real world", etc, but none of those themes had any depth. What the movie was really about was sexual tension between two classically good-looking people, explosions, and people who are ungrateful for what they have. A good movie for a 12 or 13-year old boy but otherwise, leave it alone.
Midnight Run (1988)
Excellent dialogue
There was obviously a lot of chemistry between Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin and that alone makes the movie worth watching. The conversations between them were hilarious. Unfortunately, that's the ONLY thing that makes the movie worth watching - the plot was lame and the other characters were flat.
What Women Want (2000)
dumb
I thhout this movie was stoopid. Mel Gibson's not one of those sensitive-type guys and he shouldn't try to be. Leave that stuff for people like Ethan Hawke. Gibson should stick to the action genre. On the other hand, he did seem strangely at ease wearing panty hose and applying nail polish.
Mumford (1999)
Expecting better
I liked the beginning and the middle, but I was a better resolution . The ending has a we-ran-out-of-money and/or ideas feel to it. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie but, if you're smart, you'll stop watching at the climax, when the plot has been completely laid out but nothing has been resolved.
Swordfish (2001)
Huh?
This movie was pretty dumb, but the scenes themselves were cool. As I watched the movie, I couldn't help but having two persistent thoughts : 1) Is it really that difficult to write a good action movie and 2) How did the writer of this movie get all those people (actors, producers, etc) interested in this movie? The scenes were actually well produced (the special effects and lighting were good) and the lines were reasonably well delivered, considering the fact that the whole storyline was totally bogus and stupid. I didn't feel any connection towards any of the characters. The ending was also more dragged out than it should've been. By the end, I just wanted all the characters to die.
Fresh (1994)
Badass flick
It was a really complicated film, but really gripping. If you liked LA Confidential and Usual Suspects, you should like this film also. It's the kind of film that you should really watch twice to swallow all of it. Personally, I liked those movies I mentioned earlier better, though I thought this movie was better than a lot of other urban dramas. I thought Chuckie's character was really funny.
Friday (1995)
Favorite movie ever
While this is not the 'best' movie I have ever seen from a critical point of view - it was pretty much slapstick humor, without camera tricks and with many one dimensional characters - it was hilarious. If you sit at home on a Thursday night with friends, and "Friday", you will be one step closer to nirvana. Trust me on this. If you thought "Monty Python" was a funny movie, you may not like this film. If you have a sense of humor, you will think this movie is hilarious. I can't tell you how many times I've used the lines: "It's Friday, you ain't got no job, you ain't got s*** to do...I'ma get you highh today"
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
Yawn
Ni deez... I was pretty bored the whole movie. A bunch of people have told me how funny it was but thinking back, they were all white guys with no rhythm. The movie was silly, but not funny. It was kind've painful to watch - I couldn't wait for it to end. Then again, maybe my hopes were just too high going into the movie.
