Wish (2023)
Ignore the low ratings....
To give this movie a "1" or a "3" is ridiculous. Maybe you should ask yourself whether you should be going to an animated kids movie if you find them so offensive or boring. The movie is not great by any means but it has a good message, entertaining action, and decent music. It is not scary for young kids. It also pays homage to many great Disney films of the past. It's not particularly groundbreaking but not every Disney movie will be. The kids in the audience, mine included, loved it. And let's be clear, that's what really matters. Not grown adults whining about how Disney movies use to be better...
Justified: City Primeval: Kokomo (2023)
It was fine....
This episode, like most of the series so far, was just fine. Not great. Not terrible.
The storyline continues to lack an edge or sense of urgency. I appreciate focusing it in one main villain and story but in order for that to work you have to have a dynamic villain. Clement Mansell is not that. Boyd Holbrook is overacting in order to make up for a lack of character depth.
The dialogue is inconsistent and does not have the great exchanges that were a trademark of the original series. We are only getting glimpses of the "old Raylan" and no sense of how he has changed in the years sense the events of the original series.
I keep waiting for it to get better...
Svart krabba (2022)
Better than the score..
Prior to watching Black Crab I saw the low rating on IMDB and almost kept scanning Netflix for something else. I'm glad I didn't. It is thrilling and unique from the start.
Although the general plot of a group of misfits on a mission that can end a war has been done many times in the past, the film knows how to distinguish itself. The cinematography is striking, the action is well executed, and there are a few twists that keep you on your toes. It runs a little long and the ending isn't perfect, but it's still worth it.
Also, Noomi Rapace is as good as anyone at playing tough as nails while also making the character an actual human you can have empathy for.
